Destiny 2: Datto's Thoughts on Black Armory Launch

  • We are almost a week into the launch of Black Armory, so how are things going? So far, we've gotten a new NPC in Ada-1, a couple of forge activities (which are both similar to each other), some new forge weapons and mods and the raid, Scourge of the Past. Bungie also made some tweaks (found here: www.bungie.net... and here: www.bungie.net...) in response to day 1 community feedback. So far so good? Or did the weak day 1 experience turn people off to Black Armory and the annual pass? Note that I do talk about a little bit of Season 5 with regards to the vendor refreshes, but as a whole, I wanted to talk about BA.

I've been a relatively hardcore D1 and D2 player and had 3 characters at 600 almost a month before black armory was released. At this point I am totally unmotivated to grind my characters up to play the black armory content. As of today I've tried leveling up with my hunter one night and ended up stopping there, my mind is just not up to the task I guess. Leveling is not fun for me and I enjoy playing with my good looking min/maxed armor and weapons. Call me vain but going back to using crap weapons and ugly armor because I can't afford to infuse my stuff is a big de-motivator. I'll probably do it eventually but for now I've been enjoying some down time and am anticipating playing other games for a change. Mainly catching up on Warframe and then Anthem in late January

Im in the exact same boat! Me and my friends are usually the race to completionist type of people but I just got finished the ridiculous grind that was forsaken which I had a great time! But I'm completely exhausted now and if I have to do one more milestone currently I'm gonna explode lol.... I love destiny but I have others games and responsibilities to attend to and this is why Destiny needs these bigger gaps in content or else you get burnt out and the craving gets lost and not to mention when this is the "expansion" we get that is suppose to entice us to come back...

    • @Nappylox71
      @Nappylox71 Před 5 lety +1

Exactly SVDBG. To sit there and have to grind characters to have a shot at the forges is a pain in the ass after grinding all 3 characters to reach 600 in the first place. I worked on my hunter and got her to 600. I just got my warlock to 600. To have to go through that whole story mission AGAIN to get my titan past 600 is a kick in the teeth. You think they would have it a little more accessible for those that are at least at that 600 light level. To start off the very first forge way above the light level of the freakin raid is ridiculous.

      @3nvis1on Před 5 lety +2

I felt the same way. I luv Forsaken and I had way more than enough materials to fully masterwork any weapons and armors before the expansion was release. Completed probably over 1000 raids in total. I was so burnt out I didn't even buy the DLC nor was it appealing to me by the time it was released. At the moment, I'm casually playing AC Odyssey and waiting for Anthem to be release in Feb. I don't think I'll go back to Destiny again maybe until D3 is release but I'll tread lightly knowing how Bungie is.

This is very normal, a lot of players have been burned out by playing this game I being an example. D1 was boring except for TTK and April Update since I loved POE but otherwise the game lacked a lot of fun things to do. D2 has decided to make the game even less fun to grind with everything being extremely underpowered and not worth getting. I was burned out after Warmind since Forsaken just seems like TTK but worse. I also noticed the revival of shotgun rushing due to Forsaken's weapon system and I can no longer play crucible since it's at Felwinter's Lie status rn.

I go in and have to do and grind alllllll the things I didnt before to be able to play the EXPANSION. and I’m ok with that. That’s how it should be. I didn’t play and grind to 600. But I’m excited for the new stuff. So hey since then I’m now 590 light. Didn’t take me but a week on 2 characters. And now, this week I’ll be able to play the endgame stuff. It worked out better. Y’all mfs need to quit whining and expecting to be handed stuff just for spending money on an EXPANSION. play the game. If you don’t only wanna play that game fine. I don’t. I still enjoy it when I play. Aw wah I don’t have enough to do on day one except play the game. Aw wah I spent money on the game but didn’t put any time to do anything day one. So fucking what. Play when you want or when you can. You’ll get to it. And having stuff to get too is better than just waiting for stuff to happen.

Day 1 was awful. I didn't know what exactly to expect. I rested on expecting, 1-3 storytype missions, a strike, a forge, and the usual host of new seasonal gear for vanguard and crucible. And upon loading into the game to get some new stuff to grind, I found that in fact there was nothing but A cutscene a bit of dialogue, and a forge that I had to go grind for before even having a chance of completing it. I'm a hardcore player, I play destiny for hours almost everyday, raid every week, and grind every pinnacle weapon; I was expecting and happily accepted the idea of needing to grind power, that going back to the forsaken ("old") content was going to be the thing to do alongside new Black Armory content. But when there was actually nothing new that I could consume. Suffice to say I wasn't real happy about it. What honestly made it worse for me was to see that the roadmap had all kinds of new stuff, scheduled to release later on; hell the put a date! A date for when the timegate on another exotic quest would be lifted. Bungie is trying something new, and I can see it panning out later, but goddamn is it awful to see literally nothing to play and see that they're timegating a returning exotic 8 weeks after the start of Black Armory. I do think the complete disregard for story and the day 1 activity was very poorly done, I understand that they don't want to focus on massive story. But come on, we get given a pass go into the tower where these "amazing" weapons schematics have been hiding with this Exo who hates guardians and NOBODY has ever wondered where the bottom hanger lead to?? If it were a movie that would be deemed a extremely poor plot point. There are plenty people who actually do care about the story in this game. Could they not have us perhaps rescue this exo from a signal that was found somehow and once we found her she tells us of this secret armory within the tower and unlocks it through a single hidden area that nobody knew existed until now. They could have given us 3 small missions to do this, explore the signal, rescue Ada-1, unlock the armory and clear a single forge, get a drop as a intro bonus reward. And that could have made more sense story wise and also pleased the people who complained day 1 there was nothing for them to do.

Who is she even dealing with, if not Guardians, with that location? She should have been in the Shore, or on another planet, at least. It makes zero sense.

I realize I'm not the type of player who had a problem with this, but I will relate my experience- I am not a "top 10%" type player, but Destiny is my main game, and I play every day. I belong to a small but active clan of similar players. We were all at 600 with all three of our characters a good 4 weeks before Black Armory launched, had cleared Last Wish multiple times, and were chomping at the bit for new content. We cleared both forges the day they were released, and after less than one week, most of us are between 615-630 in Light (none of us had saved up bounties or anything.)
So far, speaking just for me and my clanmates, we've really enjoyed the content. We've really only done the Forges in 3-man teams (not using matchmaking) but we find them to be a fun, mindless activity to basically just grind over and over in the hope of good drops. We're also enjoying the mysteries and stuff, and looking forward to the new dungeon and forges to come later.
I think for our clan, at least (which again is small, there's about 7 of us who are active) it's been a really good experience so far, and we're all eager for more.

The amount of time I put in when I was grinding for the new Strike & Gambit weapons only to be met with a (no pun) grinding halt when the forge became active and I couldn’t complete it at level 600 made me stop playing. The understanding that there would be a PROGRESSION of difficulty when it came to the forges was what I thought was going to happen not an immediate STOP of play progression come the FIRST forge. There was no “advertisement” put out by Bungie saying that you required additional light levels to complete the first bit of content actually advertised through trailers... nothing from the first quest on to the first forge ever prepares you for... THE FIRST FORGE. Which pissed me off. It could have been made more clear that a grind was going to be needed to make it successfully accessible when it dropped.

Personally I think a BIG problem with the Black Armory launch is the impact on new or recently returning players. Forsaken got a good number of people back into the game that had quit after launch or CoO launch etc and hadn't played since. They were able to mostly jump straight into Forsaken and get going. Similar story with people that tried the game on PC with it being free on Blizzard for a period. If they liked the game they could buy Forsaken, boost a character up to lvl30 and straight up skip CoO and Warmind to get into the new content that everyone else was playing. Now you're talking about a bunch of players that might have started playing 1-2 months before Black Armory released and a very likely to not be up to 600 power yet compared to players who have been playing Forsaken since day 1. All of a sudden they're told they can't even participate in the new content even if they paid for it until they spend another month or more grinding the same exact content with the same exact rewards that they've been playing. For dedicated players this isn't a big deal because that's what we've been doing for the past year+ all the time. For a player that was turned off by CoO or such and quit or just got into the game and was excited to be able to jump right up to current content to play with friends etc that had already been playing they're all of a sudden getting turned away at the door. This could very easily kill any interest these new players had in the game for the past month or two and lead to them just quitting again. If the goal of the annual pass was to be aimed at dedicated players it also did a very good job seemingly of turning off new players from potentially wanting to become dedicated players imo. I feel like they COULD have lessened this considerably with just a single lower level forge (550 or such) just to let people feel like they're doing SOMETHING new. Even just a returning of older content such as adding dreaming city armor to the Blind Well loot pool for random clears could have gone a long way to buff the "grind" for these players.
Another big issue of locking the Black Armory content (and forges) behind 600+ light is that this locks lower level players out of all of the daily/weekly bounties, challenges, rewards etc. This means they're missing out on AT LEAST 2-3+ extra powerful rewards every week for each character even ignoring the raid AND these rewards are the better light boosting rewards. Putting in a single 550 forge to allow players to at least grind the dailies and get the 2-3 powerful rewards to help them reach 600+ faster wouldn't really hurt the experience for any of the other players already there. Instead the current system makes it easier for higher level players to get ahead faster and leave other players behind even more.
I know it wouldn't really work story wise but I also think Bungie could have somehow enabled the Shattered Throne every week after Black Armory dropped. This would let people get 3 extra powerful rewards every week from the Forsaken content to catch up AND they're powerful rewards that scale higher than most of the other daily/weekly rewards. The only issue there is that Shattered Throne is effectively 560-580+ content and the 550 and lower players are the ones that would need this more. At least a 600+ friend could help carry them through however to get some light gains.
I'm somewhat worried that we're going to soon see another Iron Banner where a small minority of players will be 640-650 and suddenly all of those 550 players will be facing an even harder time than previous Iron Banners while trying to get the 8 powerful rewards they could really make good use out of. Hopefully instead the Dawning provides a number of powerful rewards (or even a 625-650 gun or armor piece like the Horror Story) which are more easily available to lower level players.

My buddies and I hit the ground running pretty hard when we got into destiny 2, but didn't buy Forsaken till towards the end of the sale. I'm the highest Light by a decent margin at 605 but only because I got super lucky on some exotic drops and prime engrams; my other friends who don't play as much are at 550-580 or so, which is unfortunate. I play this game to experience stuff with my friends and get more gear to progress, and I was hoping they would be able to catch up quicker with this. That being said, I was 596 when the first forge dropped and have only gotten up 9 light levels since then, so I'm not sure how long it'll be before I can even do forges in a random queue safely.

but this content is focused on hardcore players. frankly, it wasn't very hard getting to 600 light well before this release as a solo player. I haven't done the new raid once and I've done spire of stars exactly twice (I really need a new mic). its not the game's fault you can't put in the time. if the game stops being fun play something else. Sure, in theory that'd be fine...but in reality it isn't. Activision was STILL disappointed in Forsaken financially despite how well it was received and how many players it brought in/back. Bungie can't afford to just turn away all of the new/returning players that came back with Forsaken with the annual pass. Sure as a solo player it wasn't "hard" to get to 600 and you just had to put in the time, but even there "put in the time" means waiting X weeks since you're inherently limited on powerful rewards. A player that joined a month before Black Armory isn't going to be happy just sitting around doing the same content for another month or two after paying $30 and expecting to enjoy new content. They're going to drop the game and we'll be right back to the state of the game before Forsaken launched. The success of Forsaken will be squandered by alienating new and returning players that WANT to enjoy the game but are straight up being told they can't unless they grind the same old content for X weeks. For some people this could even be to the point where by the time they get up to the level for Black Armory it's Season 6 and we have the next content drop raising the power cap even higher.

    • @berengerchristy6256

but there's a lot to do for new players: they have strikes to do, heroic story missions (to avoid, they suck), flashpoint, nightfalls (now a choice of 3 per week), leviathan, eater of worlds, spire of stars, last wish, and this new raid to learn, escalation protocol for the shotgun, story to play through if they desire, the dreaming city (a whole lot in there). the point of these games is that this is THE game you play come hell or high water. if you get off the horse you fall behind. again, have other things to do. for me, elite dangerous became pointless after I got the big ships, so I stopped playing. big whoop. if destiny stops being fun you have no obligation to continue playing, and in the grand scheme of things $60 is a very small amount of money or however much it costs now

    • @Luteloots
      @Luteloots Před 5 lety +1

There's no reason to run any of the raids before Last Wish unless you want fairly Niche exotic catalysts that have a LOT of time investment required. The one possible exception being getting Midnight Coup but anyone who's really after that just waits until Benedict sells it that week anyway. Running the same repeated content for another month after everyone else (friends who convinced you to play again etc) is playing new content is NOT something people are going to want to do.
The Annual pass being exclusively for dedicated end game players would have been fine...if not for the massive push for new/returning players with Forsaken. At the end of the day Bungie and Activision are a business. If they lose all of their new and returning players due to the direction of Black Armory it's going to be considered a failure even if the small minority of dedicated players love it. They lost a LOT of players with the game at launch and even more at CoO. Forsaken was a big success in regards to turning that around even though Activision doesn't consider it as much of a success as they wanted/expected. If Black Armory screws that up again and causes an exodus of players they likely won't be bothering to check back next time and Bungie will be in serious trouble over it.
I'm not strictly talking about the annual pass from a consumer perspective of a dedicated player (which I am, I've been 600 for quite a while on all of my characters and had no problem getting into Black Armory content) but as a business move for Bungie and Destiny as a series altogether.
Anthem releases in late February right before we should be getting to season 6 and the next section of content for the annual pass. I personally don't really care about the game and don't expect it to take me away from Destiny but it's still very much a competitor for Activision and Bungie in regards to player engagement and profitability. I expect EA to find a way to manage to screw it over themselves but Bungie isn't making it particularly hard for them.

In my opinion, making a content drop only focused on endgame experience is just as bad as making a content drop with no endgame experience. Each release needs new content for all levels of progression. For this reason, I would call both content like launch Destiny 2 and content like Black Armory incomplete releases.
I don't think the complaints you're seeing about this expansion are because the game is asking players to grind to play the endgame content; I think they're there because the game is asking players to grind the same boring, mundane milestones we have been grinding since day 1 if they want a chance at playing the new content. If Bungie bothered to give players new things to do while gearing up, most people would not be complaining - They'd be too busy gearing up.
This dead horse has been beaten as well, but the very obvious time-gates in the current milestone system have also given it a really bad rep. I don't want the game giving out hand outs, but nobody wants to be stuck at 580 power for 3 weeks because they can't get gauntlets when all they really want to do is play Scourge of the Past, either. It creates a problem like "Forever 29" from D1 for a lot of folks, except at least in D1 you could still play the raid without being at a disadvantage when that happened to you.
Ultimately, I don't think the majority of the community play Destiny to grind power level; they play it to experience new activities, grind new content, complete quests, discover secrets, collect loot, etc. Power level was far more parallel to these experiences in Destiny 1, which is why there were a lot less complaints about it. In Destiny 2, power level creates a barrier to entry between players and the activities they actually want to play - creating a "You must be this tall to ride" mentality. That's why you have so many people saying power level in Destiny 2 sucks.
I think as long as Bungie sticks with their current milestone system, they are going to continue to divide players into groups among the Destiny community. They need to come up with something better in future releases.

All that’s left is the raid and I don’t feel like grinding out my other classes. I wanted the sniper but guess what? That feels time gated like it’s there to unlock but they haven’t flip the switch to get it. No strike, no exotic armor and the only exotic weapon you can get is rng behind the raid. No way to get new legendary armor that’s not time gated. Machine gun and auto rifle are fun but 1k voices and ep shorty will stay until I get the sniper. Bungie looks like they are drawing out everything to be impossible. If it isn’t that rng you need for a chest piece you’ll never gear up or if it isn’t time gated. The idea is we will be getting something new too do each week so we wont be stuck doing the same milestones over and over. They dont ever realease content quickly after an expansion the size of forsaken in d2 history. The dry spell after TTk was unbearable. Sure they couldve done more or released it differently but hey its bungie and if they didnt make mistakes the world would stop spinning. Just understand this annual pass is going too be adding new things every week over the next two months.
and too touch on the proggression, they literally have it setup so every activity in the game rewards powerful gear. Strikes, story missions, crucible, gambit, plant activities, raids, dreaming city, spider bounties, dungeon .. literally everything has powerful gear tied too it everyweek and they they also have the daily reset on many of them also. If threres something youre sick of then just dont do it. but this is how Destiny has always been. Try and appreciate that theyre fighting the dry boring times between dlcs with the annual pass. @@jareddepew1467 Thank you for the polite reply. I do understand the intentions behind the annual pass, I just don't like what's on the table and don't think it's the best move for Bungie. I do very much appreciate the effort Bungie is putting forward to fill in content gaps; something is definitely better than nothing. I just think they're severely over-estimating the amount of players that will actually grind out and experience the annual pass content.
To make one thing abundantly clear: I am not afraid of grind. I came into Destiny from several MMOs and started on day 1 with my friends. We built our own clan/raid group, played every piece of content, collected every exotic, beat every quest/found everyh secret, hunted god rolls, etc. and had a blast doing it. We also stepped into most raids blind on launch week.
Sure there were grinds in Destiny 1, but none of them ever felt disrespectful to our time or like they were actively acting as a barrier between us and the new content. There were a few time-gated grinds to get to max light level each release, but no one really cared about that in our group. We weren't playing the game to inflate our light level, we were in it to have fun in and help others through the endgame. There was always a way to get to a raid-ready light level in Destiny 1 without time gates.
In Destiny 2, especially in Forsaken; Bungie doubled-down on the shallow, artificially lengthened, and time gated milestone system. This turned a lot of people off, including my group. I maybe have 2 or 3 friends left occasionally playing the game because they've all gotten stuck trying to gear up for new raids, been left out of at least one Destiny 2 day 1 experience, and it's ruined the novelty for them. Last Wish was the final straw for a lot of my friends who were all stuck at 530ish light for a 580 activity on week 1. They all felt demotivated, didn't even want to try, and a few of them just quit playing afterwards. Blind raiding has transformed from something that used to be achievable and fun for the entire online Destiny community into a marketing event that very few can participate in. It's all about either getting lucky with your drops or brute forcing it via Prime Engrams now. Most people do not have the time for the latter.
I know personally, I spent 3 weeks after Last Wish launch with my progression "locked" at 535 power because of a 525 class item. All of my other drops were coming in around 540, but because none of them were class items, my overall power level didn't really change. Just duplicate drop after duplicate drop. It just sucks to be stuck grinding powerful engrams when you really just want to be raiding, playing other endgame content like Shattered Throne, and collecting new loot (of which Forsaken was lacking in but that's a separate conversation).
Sorry for the lengthy anecdote, but I have a feeling my friends and I aren't the only previously dedicated players this game's progression system has burnt out. If Bungie really wants to get their numbers back up, they need to capitalize on what they do well and change the way they look at power level. Power should be a reflection of how far I've progressed through the game, not a barrier between me and the next piece of content. They need to stop being afraid that people will stop playing at max power and instead create clear pathways to all of the games content; including raids. To keep people interested once you're at the front door of the endgame, they should fill it out with exotics, quests, secrets, additional difficulty settings, challenges, etc. to keep players busy. This is the kind of stuff that people feel fulfilled by working towards, not increasing an arbitrary number next to their character that otherwise does nothing.

I am enjoying the grind, I like that I had to do some work to progress. At first the forge was impossible to beat, my thinking was "Hell yes"! Something challenging, something fun I can do with my friends. When the first forge became easy, I was also happy to see that the next forge was even more difficult. Coming up with strategies, getting frustrated, then finding a way to win is what makes it exciting for me.
I also like the black armory weapons and shaders. I agree that the start was rough, some of my clanmates feel that the power requirement was too high for release day. I get that, I am still having fun. In the coming months we will see how everything pans out.

I agree day 1 was difficult, no doubt. As you said, however this was activity designed for active players at 600. I expected we'd have to to grind a little first since we all knew there was BOTH a pwr increase, but only a few new activities. if we were only powering up for a raid, and a single new side activity - then we shouldn't be able to crush it immediately. Some more communication from Bungie I think is all that was needed for this launch to have been smooth.

I need to grind for better gear just to get the opportunity to grind for newer better gear. Not the best imho.

So bungie is damned if they do or damned if they don't and this is a pretty daunting task they are handed so we'll just have to keep giving feedback as well as wait and see if bungie can finally make everyone happy

This is my POV from Destiny, as a hardcore D1player having completed everything possible collecting everything possible I was very disappointed with that Destiny 2 had no grind from the beginning. I hung on with hope and gave it a chance, COO came out meh nothing to grind really except spending multiple hours on the same planet collecting vast amounts of materials for Brother Vance to unlock the Sagira shell. Disappointed I quit the game, Warmind came out and I didn’t even bat an eye it was as if I couldn’t care less anymore I stopped watch Datto, Unknown Player, Esoterick and many more. Then i watched I think E3 (correct me if I’m wrong) and saw Forsaken and I mean I was stunned it looked quality so I went out to pre-order and started to get my power back up so I was ready for Forsaken. It was honestly the best decision I made, Bungie turned the game around with Forsaken all the hidden secrets in the Dreaming City, Gambit a new fucking hardcore raid and I was for the first time so happy playing Destiny for a long time, leaving Destiny and coming back was actually a really good thing because you realise that you’re missing a lot of things and knowing your missing them you just have this urge to get your fireteam and set off on your way to unlock these secrets and find new weapons. Black Armoury I also like a lot because you NEED to grind and honestly to me that’s what Destiny is about and I’ve missed it in Destiny and it’s about time they added more of it.
So right now if your not into Destiny that much, I would honestly suggest you give it a good long break until something in the game catches your eye and your like “I need that” because as soon as you get back onto the game and realise all the things your missing and how much you want to get them you’ll love it and as soon as you’ve got one thing your set onto another thing and then another and another, you’ll love it even more.
Please give your thoughts and feedback as well, I’d like to hear from other people’s POV 👍🏻

I think the forges are insanely fun. You're killing aliens, shooting the breeze with friends (how I recommend running the forges anyway), and you're playing basketball, which is a fun throwback to Spire of Stars. As for the raid, I also enjoyed it immensely. I think Slayerage hit the nail on the head when he praised Bungie for the holomap, the Berserkers, and the sparrows. I also love the tanks and how they play into the raid. I personally adored being 600 power going into Black Armory, getting up to the forge, and getting my ass handed to me and my team. We tried it about 3 or 4 times before we called it and decided to go for all of our other stuff first. Good thing too - because forges drop some of the most powerful weapons and armor you can get right now outside of prime engrams. I liked having to grind my power up and then seeing the results of that grind come to fruition. Did I like hitting 650 in Week 1 of Black Armory? Hell yeah. Do I think that the powerful gear and prime engram system needs another look? Yeah. Being able to save 23-25 powerful gear bounties PER CHARACTER as well as 33 raid keys was a little much and made the day 1 raid a bit of a stomp for me. I had 1 teammate in the high 30s and one in the low 30s, but we still got it reasonably quickly compared to Spire of Stars.

I’m a fairly dedicated player. I reached 600 light about a month before black armory. As of right now, I’ve completed all of the weekly and daily prime engrams activities that I care to do, and only jumped to 603 light. I still have yet to complete the first forge because my bad RNG prevented me from leveling quickly, and the two strangers I pair with at the first forge aren’t any stronger than I am. I currently have 0 pieces of black armory gear even though I was max level and should have been prepared for new endgame stuff. Now I’ll need to grind for another week or two depending how slowly I continue to level before I can enjoy any of the new stuff added. Due to all of this I feel discouraged from playing since in order to play new stuff I have to continue grinding the same stuff I’ve been doing since September. I really feel like if the day one forge was 600 light, it would be a much better experience. Have all of the follow up forges be high level challenges, but keep the first one accessible to players who were previously max light. Rant over.

So i think people who only wanted "End game" content didnt really want it as "DLC" I think this would have been a great traditional DLC with story and DLC, having said that, it wouldn't be so bad IF they would have included new crucible armor, vanguard armor and all the new sets that we would expect to come in with a new season, but they didnt. For what ever reason Bungie thinks since people bitched about one thing, they have to re invent the wheele. Everyone loved getting new armor and all that with a new season. It feels like they are running put of ideas.
I love this game and will play no matter what, because tyhats my choice, but this shows they are willig to just throw away great mechanics, like what happens when we all get tired of the Forge and the raid? Go back to Forsaken content? Well theres no new armor to grind for, theres no new strikes or any new PVP maps. Thats what people are upset abut.
having taken away Trials AND Faction rallies really shows us that the game seems to be coming to an end. And theres no reason to be time gating things.

Why does 90% of my playtime in this game goes to get a blue number higher to access content that let's be fair is just a lacklustre gamemode. Why do i even need powerful gear, what's challenging in this game? There is no challenge other than light level difference and guess what that's the way it's gonna stay, so your gonna grind to 650 for a month then after 2 months it's the same shit again!. No trials of the nine no faction rallies no new strikes no new crucible maps, no new armor either from vanguard or the crucible (but of course the microtransactions get a full set) the raid is just another spire of stars kinda experience so what exactly is new, it ain't fun and the rewards are gonna be crap after 2 months. Bungie says sit down and play all these different modes to mark your checklist for progress, and progress is just a number that blocks access to other content. Then when you do your checklist stop playing and come back next week. When I sit down to grind I want to do whatever I feel like doing and make progress.

Personally i don’t like that raids now release at too high a light level for anyone who doesn’t have three times the same class or who doesn’t create new characters just for powerful gear . I used to look forward to going blind in the raid with my friends as soon as it released . But here for example , i did ABSOLUTELY every si gle milestone , every single bounty that rewards powerful gear , absolutely everything that was possible for me to raise my light level since black armory released , and I only went from 600 to 615 , making it impossible for me to attempt the raid . I think that’s dumb . If you tune your raid levels for people who are willing to create 10+ characters just to get to max light , you’re doing it wrong .

Being in between a casual and dedicated player... I would have liked to have seen a multi-tiered forge, say 575ish and then an upper level 620-630ish. Same base weapons with the more difficult forge dropping higher end or tougher to get perks. That way everyone (with a reasonable light level) gets to experience the new forge content and a reason to go back once you've leveled up. Just my .02 but still kind of PO'd that while I was at 585-590 when the DLC dropped... there wasn't any way to get to the 610 minimum required to effectively beat the forge. In the end I had to say, "Well, so much for doing that content this week".

now I'm a hardcore player myself but the problem with it being geared towards hardcore endgame players like myself is rn we're only a small group compared to the much larger group within this game aka the casuals when it comes to D2, Activision wanted as many players in D2 as possible and so they tried making it very casual which turned a lot of HC players off leaving the majority of the playerbase being casual players so to introduce something geared towards only a small group of people in your game is a pretty stupid idea, had they made D2 from launch a much more HC game then this would've been a different story, this HC geared content should've waited for D3 imo, also they should've adopted the tier system from BW, so tier one could've capped at 615, tier two at 625 and tier three at 630 but the best loot (eg the machine gun, sniper etc) could only be obtained from the third tier.

Completely gave up, I understand raids being high level, but I think matchmade activities should just scale to your light level, sure it can be difficult, but they shouldn't release content that basically just excludes anyone who doesn't have the time to grind to max level

  • @Airhornsman

600 PL when BA launched, and I can't be bothered committing to this grind again. I'll probably play some over the Dawning, if only to say hi to Eva Levante and the schtick about baking sounds like fun; as my PL creeps up I'll eventually get around to taking a look at the forges, but I'm not going to bother going out of my way to grind out levels for the sake of grinding out levels.
I recently started playing Forza Horizon 4 and I was struck at the way that the equivalent of the grind there involved doing what you wanted to do anyway: driving cool cars around a beautiful world. You play Forza just because it's fun to experience one of the best driving games ever made, the experience is rewarding in and of itself. I used to feel that way in D1, where I (a non-raider, non-trials player) would spend hours just out on patrol in the Cosmodrome, but lost that feeling in D2.
