      Just recently started washing pon before using it. Gooooood... It's super dirty 😬

    • @vintageelements710
      @vintageelements710 Před 2 lety

      I think the pon instructions tell you not to wash it, I think you may be washing out some of the nutrients provided naturally by the amendments. It’s funny how we say these things are dirty and then plant in, well, dirt. At least those of us using soil. The amendments are never really clean because they continually shed and breakdown. Really just wasting water and time. No judgement here for you washing or not.

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  Před 2 lety +2

      @@vintageelements710 pon is supposed to be prewashed :) The one that comes premade by lechuza. That ones has added fertilizer. I don’t buy that one though, it is too expensive for me. I make my own but I don’t add fertilizer. Instead I fertilizes as I usually do, when I water. All the individual components that I buy lava rock, pumice and zeolite are very dusty, especially lava rock. It is much different than dirt. Dirt has larger granulation, this is really like fine dust, finer than sand, that sediments if not rinsed off. But I take my plants to shower occasionally so it helps if there is that buildup :)

    I thoroughly appreciate who you are! Thanks for being open and honest. It allows me to stay true to myself. Regarding H. kloppenburgii, mine grows fine in my home here in BC, Canada. I keep all my Hoyas in my main bathroom with temperatures between 21-26C, humidity 45%-80% (mostly 55%.) I imported mine from AH Hoya in Thailand last year, and it lost 2-3 leaves as it extended its roots into LECA. Then it began growing one leaf at a time. A leaf emerged, hardened off, nothing for a while, then grew again. I have since repotted it into orchid soil mix (bark, charcoal, Perlite, and worm casting) so it hasn't grown for a while. But it hasn't shown any sign for worry. It is perhaps a plain-looking plant compared to silver or veiny Hoya, but I love its thick leaves with shiny uneven preciousness. I hope yours begins to grow well soon!

    Hi 👋🏼
    Amazon sells magnetic hooks 🪝 they are very strong. You could make your hoop trellis that hooks through the bottom of the pot and hang them in the cabinets of the metal tops and sides. Or buy the little hang pots. That’s what I did and it looks great!

    • @BasiePlants

    Hi Miro, I love your videos and your sense of humor. I have attempted several of your Hoya DIYs with some tweaking I found success. I am running out of space for trellising so was doing the hanging them and couldn’t water in place, you know that no tray to catch water issue, anywho inexpensive plastic self watering pots turned out to be the answer. I got the pots with the fill holes near the bottom of the tray and drilled holes near the top rim to attach the hanger and eureka. So far so good 😊

    How do you treat broad mites?

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  Před 2 lety +1

      I use Kumulus, which is sulphur based fungicide. It has been found that sulphur does have effect on mites, but you may need to repeat the treatment several times. I am trying to get a hold of predatory mites. From what I understand, not all predatory mites will work. Here, they recommend to use combination of Phytoseiulus persimillis and Neoseiulus californicus. I also know that hot water bath works - like the one I previously talked about for root mealybugs. But you would need sou-vide for that, as you need to keep the temperature constantly at above 40 degrees celsius for around 10 minutes. There are different opinions on what temperatures work best; I have read some suggest 43 degrees for 15 minutes, some say 46 degrees for 7-8 minutes. I would do more research before I go down that route. For now, I use sulphur until I can get predatory mites. Here, they import them during spring and summer, but they haven't started yet to do so unfortunately. In any case, I don't think neem and less aggressive methods will work, as they are very hard to get rid off and quite persistent. In Hoya groups they recommend certain miticides, but I don't have those available here.
