  • This bear hunt took place in Idaho during the last week of May. Found a bear right out of the gate! Great hound hunting action. If you like seeing good dogs do their work, this is a great way to experience it. If you are completely ignorant of the value of hound hunting in predator and ungulate conservation, keep your stupid comments to yourself.

I'm looking for a smallish hound for a pet, but not a beagle. Hunting ability and drive not needed. My other hound was too much of a lover of treeing stuff and having squirrels in the tree in the yard made me late to work on many occasions, but the houndy personality and sweet disposition has made a permanet mark on my heart. I'm down in southeast Idaho. If you or your friends have a dog that just don't hunt well, but is sweet and friendly, please let me know. I think it could be a win-win. Must get along with tiny dogs and getting along with cats would be a bonus. Long story how I got my first hound, and I wished that I was a hunter because she would have loved it and I think she may have been really good at it. She was a genius in terms of finding stuff and was so tenacious and stubborn when she got something in a tree. It was a single-mindedness that was really quite amazing to see and rather impressive, but she would have been happier in a hunter's hands, so I'd like to get a dog that would do better in a home with a loving family.

There is a hound rescue in Lynwood WA. It`s called "Forever Home Dog Rescue". They have some perfect Hounds of all ages. I got a medium sized 45 lb. beautiful dog named Lucy from there. She`s a bluetick /plott mix and the best dog ever. Loves to snuggle and chases squirrels, the neighborhood cats, and mice too. Look them up on Google search. It is a lengthy process to adopt, but very worth it!

I do know about this sort of thing but i for sure wouldnt take a switch to my dogs for chewing on a bear... kinda contradicts what theyre trained to do. Ive hound hunted my whole life. just doesnt make sense to me but ya know diff strokes for diff folks.

I have to agree with you. I have been hunting all my life and never seen someone switch their bear dog off a bear. I always seen them chewing on the bear as a dogs reward for a job well done and as long as they are not chewing on the head they are not going to hurt the hide. And if I did not want them chewing on it I for sure would not have turned then loose to to chew on then switch them off. Dont sound like something a good houndsmen would do much less the best.

You out of your mind? Travis is one of the best houndsmen there is. He knows his hounds and treats them like royalty. He obviously doesn't want the dogs chewing up the hide of a client's bear. Guess you don't know much about this sort of thing.

BowhuntingRoad the few holes in the hide that the hounds make are easily fixed by a taxidermist. Chewing on the bear is the hounds reward for doing a great job. Just one thing that bugs me is why do you use so many hounds? We hound hunt here at home for bear and we only use six dogs. They tree 20 to 30 bear a year and never have trouble making the bear tree. We have taken bears of all sizes over these hounds from 150 lbs to over 500 lbs. They put the bears up a tree or they fight on the ground. These Plott hounds do wonderful and have the stamina and grit to do their jobs day in and out.

BowhuntingRoad. I am a avid hunter faur chase. Means get it yourself not use animals to do what you claim to be a hunter I think not. But to answer your question about switching people .Yes!!! absolutely most people who beat thier dogs are assholes. Dogs are innocent and do what they are trained to do. You need a good switching for hitting your animals. Don't abuse animals and film it and expect to get great comments . Especially when you put the evidence on film and the internet for anti hunters to use in courts to try and stop hunting. Now bend over and take your twitching.

How is this considered hunting chasing a bear up a tree with a pack of dogs then sticking an arrow in him I enjoy hunting myself but never understood bear hunting the meat taste like shit so what's the point of hunting something that doesn't even taste good when we hunt deer 90% of the deer gets used hunting Bear is just senseless unless you have no taste bugs at all and can enjoy eating a piece of meat that is so greasy and tough
