- In this episode, Janis Putelis continues his quest to harvest a black bear in Montana with his friend and fellow MeatEater colleague, Cory Calkins. The duo ventures to a more heavily timbered mountain landscape with the goal of finding spring bears feeding and wandering on closed logging roads. An early and dry spring, hot temperatures, and very unforeseen wildfire smoke makes for a grueling week in the bear woods. Presented by @SilencerCentral.

As much as it sucks they didn’t get a bear- it’s good to show that hunting doesn’t always work and many trips are just a great weekend out in the bush!

To many times you watch a hunting show Black Bear hunt and they always seem to see 100's of bears... for once I don't feel lied to. Black Bears are hard to find, even harder to find a boar.... Thanks for being realistic and not faking it

Cool to see a mainstream hunting personality using an MDT Hnt26 chassis. Shooting from tripods via ARCA rails is the next big thing for hunters. Nightforce scope too and what looks like a Tikka CTR barreled action, good taste for a mid-price build.

@@pakcanhunter I don't know man it felt like I did when I was shooting a coues deer at 400 yards across a canyon from my tripod this fall. It just makes life a lot easier being able to shoot from a tripod.
I wish they would briefly talk about the rifle and caliber combinations they are using in each video. I know Janis is using what appears to be a Sig Cross, but I'm curious about the cartridge he went with.

look it up, life changing piece for me in early bow season. when its still 70-90 degrees out here in nc when bow starts. i literally will not hunt without it!

Great video like always! Love me some bear hunting. Does anyone know what holster Janis is using for his sidearm? Everything I’ve tried is impeded by my pack hip belts and seems like his stays clear of the hip belt.
You just gotta tuck that thang in yo waistband and when somene tries you get that thang out and put two in his chest. Ya feel me?
Have you tried a chest holster? You can easily wear a bino harness over it. Stays away from the hip belt and also stays close when you take the harness off. I used to use a molle holster attachment on my harness but wanted to keep my pistol close by when I take the harness off. Chest holster is the way to go in my opinion

@@BattleBornArcher I have one from a little company out of Montana called Invader Concepts. They have long lead times though just a heads up. Gun Fighters Inc makes one called the Kenai. Those are usually readily available and have good reviews

Its nice to see a more widely-known hunting show using a suppressor on a hunt. All too many people seem to assume that there is no practical purpose for them outside of military use, which is incredibly far from the truth. I'd hunt with a suppressor myself if they weren't prohibitively expensive.

Exactly how my 5 day bear hunt went.
What holster is that on Janis? It's like a half drop leg holster. Looks like it would be comfortable to carry with a pack.
Look up Safariland Low-ride UBL (universal belt loop). Or Mid-ride UBL. May need to attach your holster with a Safariland Quick connect system, depending on your holster.
Also, I'd go with low-drop. I have the mid drop and it puts the pistol a hair too close to waist strap.
It's a standard g10 holster without active retention, but rship is right and it's sitting on a midride/lowride safariland UBL. I'd personally get a lowride safariland UBL w/ one of the active retention safariland ALS holsters.

Yes. To prevent erosion.
From what I got from it is yes, to help stabilize the bare soil (bear soil lol :D) from eroding away from rainfall and probably wind also. The root systems help hold it together. I didnt know they did that on logging roads but do know that is a thing in general.

I believe it was last May. We had weird early smoke from Canada last year.
I will say, the content is still good even with Jani not getting a bear because that's how hunting goes. I get to live his adventure and disappointment and joys thru this video so that's worth it and I love that they show the non-successful hunts as well.

Apparently Zone C is much less. I drew w/5 points. And the only reason I drew is because I applied and Zone C was my second choice, and now they make you apply every 2 years. I'm not complaining, I think it's good to make people apply so we're not unnecessarily hanging on to points, just didn't expect to draw anything.

They have been regarded as a necessity in the UK for probably 20 years.

@@kelseysvenson8544 always seemed like they thought bear spray or a handgun at the bottom of their bags would save them. I think that grizzly incident opened their eyes and I’m glad they are carrying handguns now.
Not to mention when him, cal and Steve got charged and cal had to shoot.
