- In this video Chloe Jade Travels to Nigeria as a female American traveler without a guide.
This video was recorded over a week of travel to Nigeria in March 2024
I have heard time and time again that Nigeria is a place for scammers, Nigeria is dangerous, and that Lagos is the most dangerous city in Africa.
What is there to do in Nigeria? Why would I want to visit Nigeria? Well...for one I am attempting to visit every country. This is my 116th country visited. As a female traveler I hope to inspire other women to take more steps to visit places that have maybe been mentioned as "dangerous" (because it is not always true!)
Although my trip was shorter than I hoped, I was able to visit Kano, Abuja, Lagos, and Jigawa. I woud love to come back.
In the end, the only thing that scared me in Nigeria...was the mosquitos
The main video is about 30 minutes long, and there is a 9 minute Q&A at the end.
If you have other questions please leave them in the comments, I will try to answer as much as I can.
Thank you for watching as always 💚🤍💚 ---------------------------

As half Nigerian I can say with confidence that this was the most unique travel video about Nigeria I have seen. I loved the northern culture tour.
Thank you for visiting Nigeria with an open heart. I appreciate the good reviews. Glad you enjoyed your stay in Nigeria. Nigeria is actually not as bad as its been potrayed on the media.
The media to me is actually Nigeria's problem. If we can curb that_we would attract more tourists
@@okungbowaadesuwa7363 yes, and it's very intentional what the media is doing.
Nigeria looks beautiful never been but I want to ❤
My sister, drink pure water, no shaking.
😂
We have adopted you 😂you went with an open mind, zero judgements, explored, had fun and went away with memories 💯👌
I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria learning about other parts of Nigeria. Nigeria is too vast. The sites are beautiful . You are so brave.
I'm Nigerian, and I've never been to Kano or Jigawa, that has to change because of how well you showed these places. I hope you come back and stay longer, there's so much to see, do and know. ❤
Aw I’m so glad. I will definitely come back to see more :)
Exactly! It's crazy, I have never even gone past the south. It is crazy, people come to explore Nigeria and literally see way more than a lot of us
I would love to see experience from Benin City.
Do you have plan to go there ?
I really appreciate how you showed Nigerian culture respect. Thank you! I'm a Nigerian from the southeast of the country, the Igbo tribe. I think you did something a lot of us don't do(leave our half of the country) A lot of Southerners don't go north, have never been too, and vice versa. I do recommend you try visiting all of Nigeria's Six geopolitical zones. There are 36 states in Nigeria and one Federal capital Territory (Abuja, I also recommend next time that you go to a boujee part of Abuja), and these geopolitical zones have 5 to 7 states in each of them.
Northeast: Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Taraba & Bauchi
Northcentral: Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, FCT(Abuja), Nasarawa & Plateau
Northwest: Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara
Southern:
Southwest: Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Emiti, Ondo
Southeast: Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia
South-South: Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River.
You've obviously visited three zones already. So, It remains the northeast, south east and south south. Thanks for visiting my country.
You are funny, who told you she came with the intention to see all parts of the country?
I wonder o 😂
@she literarily said so in the Q & A Section that if she had more time she would have. She intends to go back. So his comment seems helpful to me. Opening up the geopolitical arrangement of Nigeria to people on the outside
Rest
As a Nigerian, I can say you did a good job
Thank u so much 😭 means a lot honestly
Why you didn't go to south eastern part of Nigeri (Biafra)@@Chloejadetravels
I’m glad you cover this issues.Nigerians is really safe.Normally, they wound burden you.Nigeria love foreigners.
As a Nigerian, you just got my sub. I just found out your channel and i love your positivity about Nigeria cause Nigeria is safe for anyone and Nigerians are very good people and also welcoming people. People around the world do think nagative things about Nigeria which isn't true at all. Nigeria is very cheap to leave on
Thank you for sharing your experiences in Abuja, Kano and Lagos. The educational aspects of the video while at the Emir's palace were especially good to see. If you are ever able to visit Cross Rivers State, you will have another entirely unique experience, especially at the nature parks. Stay well!
Wowah! Thank you for posting the longer version, really loved it Chloe. This was truly an amazing experience.🤗
This was very interesting! I love the dye pits and the beautiful fabric patterns! I love the combination of watching what you and Dilara are doing and the interviews with locals! Truly incredible to visit along with you seeing the culture, food and kind people!❤💗❤💗❤
You are even bolder than most African CZcamsr. The media tells you a place is bad even what you hear doesn't appear real they make sure they avoid that place. But you and your girl was brave enough to see for yourselves. Thank you for showing us part of Nigeria many of us Nigerians has never been to. It's time we exploit this huge resourceful nation God has blessed us with
That's so cool and nice of you visiting Nigeria 🇳🇬 will be glad having you back here again ❤
I loooove your videos, you provide so much information and always go to the best places in every country you visit. You’re also the only travel channel I’ve seen that is RESPECTFUL about other cultures
I really enjoyed seeing my country from a different perspective. Yours is one of my favorites so far.
You guys are amazing, welcome to our country. I myself haven't been to some of these areas or heard some of these histories. Thank you for being open minded and sharing our story with the world
I love your delivery of your experience in Nigeria, well documented in this video
That last comment about a "cold war between the East and West" is utter nonsense. Some people simply want to project their divisiveness on everyone else.
No cold war. Just some stupid politicians and individuals who have nothing to offer but divisiveness.
Thanks for that point, I felt disgusted by that comment full of lies, some people just love spreading negativity and can't see good things happen without wanting to spoil with a negative "BUT". The lady has a good time and that's what matters.
There is no "cold war" between the east and west.
This is such a great and informative video!!! Thank you for making this Chloe😃🤩💕❤
Thank you for watching! 🥰
As someone native to two different places with obscene mosquitoes, Lemongrass/citronella oil is your best friend. I buy a bottle and then open up all my lotions, sprays, hair and body oils and dump the lemongrass oil in. That way it’s absorbed into my skin before I go outside.
We appreciate your visit and how fair and good you spoke of us
Hello Chloe.
I can see you had a great time visiting my country and checking out Kano state. Thanks for choosing to explore our beautiful land! I wish I had known you were coming-I would've loved to show you around my city for free. There are so many awesome places you gotta see when you come back. Cheers to more adventures! 🎉😊
I think you presented Nigeria very well to the world. And your view about Lagos is right, although you didn't experience traffic jam.
I’m impressed and learnt a lot about my country from u - excellent perspective
Wow! thanks for visiting Nigeria 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬

Your voice is so calm❤. Thank you for visiting Nigeria. ❤❤❤
the guy who took you to the rock is a soldier not a police
Oooo ok makes sense
Yeah. Soldiers are more protective
I'm Nigerian and I appreciate the positive reviews on Jigawa and Kano as well as other part of Nigeria you visited. Here are some suggestions on where to visit next when you visit Nigeria (Kanji Dam in the north, Ikogosi water fall in the south, there are lot more but can't get them off hand now. Thank you. Enjoy

Was nice that u visited Nigeria. If u ever come back, I recommend Obudu Cattle Ranch, u'd love it there.
December in Nigeria is the party season. 😅
First time coming across your channel and I'm already addicted, I enjoyed every single scene of this video, and I applaud you because you are broad minded.
We🇳🇬 would love to have you visit again.
There are so many other amazing regions to explore like South East, North East, South South e.t.c.
You did a good job! When you planning to come to east, Enugu or Onitsha precise, will welcome you always.
Thank you for loving Nigeria 🇳🇬 and not being biased
Am from Edo state in Nigeria but I reside in New York. Just subscribed to your channel.
You’re Welcome to Nigeria Chloe😊🇳🇬❤️🎉🥰
I'm from Nigeria. Glad you enjoyed your stay in Nigeria and Masa😁. Hope you tried other dishes though. There are so many delicious Nigerian delicacies to really get a taste of Nigeria especially in the Northern Nigeria you visited.
I'm always waiting for the longer videos I literally watch them with so much focus 😂
Thank you so much for that 😍
Thanks for loving and visiting Nigeria........i hope you visit osun state on your next visit, there are lot of interesting historical and cultural stories you would love to hear and see there ..i will also like to correct the misconception about pure water not be safe for drinking, it very safe my dear and i love how you were able to drink it happily .........thanks for loving Nigeria once again
You did a wondeful job portraying Nigeria to people on this video. Im from Bauchi, the home and origin of masa so i hope you do visit next time. You'll have the best masa ever over here.❤
Hi Chloe,
Wow! This is amazing I critically evaluated your presentation and description of Nigeria and I think that it is very fair and accurate. You did not attempt to colour up what you saw and yes, your descriptions are quite realistic.
I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria and I think that your report truly represents what obtains in Nigeria.
Our country is really so diverse I would have loved you to start from the South as most people do, however, you have done something that is quite out of the box by going up North and bringing things that even I have not seen about the North.
You have done a good job and thank you for drinking pure water with us.
Been following you on Instagram and I'm glad i stumbled on your CZcams Channel. Well done and thanks for coming to Nigeria. Anticipating your return
This was a good watch and adequate view of Nigeria
My days I love your sleeve tattoo,😭😭it’s so cool, by the way love your documentary about n my country, I’m based in Lagos.

Am So Excited For watching this video that you travel to our country but you should have came to zamfara state ❤️☺️

If you ever go back visit ibadan
The most balanced review.
I will be happy to have you back in my country. Thank you for visiting.
Oh God! How are you in Kano State you didn't inform us, we could have translated all the Hausa Dialogue to the corrected English. I am very near to you actually. Anyway, thank you i am very happy you visited us. Thank you!!!
I hadn't seen your long form content yet but it's so interesting! Your open mind really shines through and it's easy to tell you love asking questions and learning. I'm leaving a comment in hope to help boost the video in some small way as this is excellent work!
Hi Chloe, thanks for visiting Nigeria ❤❤ but If you want to come to Nigeria again, come to Lagos. It is also a very interesting place to be 😊
Great Content!!! keep it up.
This video made my day because it's been a long time since I went to Nigeria,I really miss my country, the food and everything
U mean you miss a terrorist country where heartless leaders enjoy killing their citizens
That is great
Thank you for visiting Nigeria
Well done. Good for you to visit Nigeria.
Magnificent video
Im liking and subscribing cos u went with an open mind and ur video had a positive vibe to it unlike some vloggers lik itchy boots who was only interested in showing all the negatives and even got someone fired cos of her video. We need more people lik u travelling and showcasing cultures. God bless u
Such a brave lady!
enjoying your trip so far --good luck
You came at the hot season Middle of February to Middle of April
Omg I know 😭
Can you please tell me which is thr best time to visit. When is winter in Nigeria
@@Abcdefghijklmnop51384 Winter is from September to January. But best time to come is anytime but not February, March, April and May. I would recommend September to December. If you want hustle and bustle come to Lagos. For a more relax atmosphere and good infrastructure, come to Abuja. For Carnivals, come to Calabar festivals at December.
@@Abcdefghijklmnop51384it starts getting cool from may. But the cooler months are june-august because it rains a lot and the sun isn’t out as much. Then harmattan in December-January.
I really want to visit Nigeria. Seems so interesting and nice ❤
I’m Nigerian ❤️❤️❤️I love all you said about it 💜💜.Its safe here for foreigners
I like the narration. I am a Nigerian from the North and thanks for the compliment.
Thanks for visiting Nigeria ,pls kindly sisit akwa ibom or calabar ,am from Benin city,i have not been to norther Nigeria,i will definitely visit very soon ,kano and bauchi or plateau state .
I'm telling you every time I'm going to travel through the road I always see this rock and me and my siblings will always say it looks like a face😂 true.
This is one of the best documentaries I've seen about Nigeria. You didn't head straight to the slums and make Nigeria look bad for views.
The 'tuk tuk' is called 'keke na pep' or keke (pronounced: keh-keh) for short.
Most people say "keke"
well done. safe journey especially for your goal
What a fascinating insight into this diverse country!
Glad to hear the lumps weren’t bot flies - but it got me thinking about how you prep for any health emergencies whilst you’re travelling in countries with patchy access to adequate healthcare. That would be a fascinating video as it’s a major but rarely discussed barrier to most travelling beyond major tourist destinations
I’ll think on this 🤔 not sure I am the best person for that considering I feel underprepared 😂
Nigeria doesn’t have patchy access to adequate healthcare.
Well, about the patchy healthcare in Nigeria, what I can tell you is if she fell ill in Nigeria, she could straight up go into any hospital, especially private hosp, get a card and be able to see a doctor right away, without having to book appointments that keep you waiting for weeks.
What do you mean by patchy healthcare in Nigeria
Nigeria is known to have the one of the best Doctors in the world and you think they have Patchy Health care?
I hope to see this video agai n to complete it. Good to know you had a good experience
You earn a new subscriber😂. Good job
Great video,I’m in Lagos but I’m from Oyo state
I wanted to suggest Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi, you mentioning Bauchi yourself I immediately start smiling, you are definitely gonna like it here.
I’m living for these longer videos, please keep posting
Views have been bad on my long forms 😭 but I will keep trying :)
Your long form videos are the only things I look forward to. Love u miss thing stay safe💕💕
@@Chloejadetravels I think it is because u are not that regular in ur long form videos and ur channel has become a shorts channel 🙁
Good Good job my sister ❤❤❤
A major mistake most people make when talking about Nigeria is not accounting for how diverse it is, this video for instance visits the largely Muslim and economic disadvantage North and not the Christian and better off South, the truth is things are different for women and people in these 2 parts and many parts of the country, don't try to generalize it all
Trying hard to bring religion and tribalism at the slightest opportunity you got. When will you guys change your attitudes and mindset? And how the hell is the north economically disadvantage?
@@sufyandanjumaibrahim3524 The North contributes less than 30% of the GDP despite having the larger population, you guys just aren't productive, it's the harsh truth
What a cocky statement coming from you. The North is the largest producer of food in the entire Africa and you are here making caricature of yourself. SMH..
You called the second largest city in Nigeria a disadvantage 😅😅 i guess you don't have to tell me where are you from, i just know.
However she is white women, so she did her research well, thats why she went to the capital and the two largest cities in the country and leave the rest. If you know you know 😅
So what are Abuja, Kaduna, Kano? Are they poor? Stop saying things that are not facts.
You did represent nigeria very well....im from Port Harcourt🎉
I’m Nigerian from edo state, but reside in Lagos, please you need to visit one of the oldest empire in Nigeria, the Benin kingdom, you will love it,you will see a lot artifacts and precolonial stuff, before the British Invasion, and you need to explore Lagos well,a lot of places you needed to visit in Lagos
There are ancient kingdoms everywhere, including the North.
@@masterlightjames950😂😂😂funny you, so he shouldn't invite her there then because they are everywhere??
@@Zsarar_zichi434 he's talking like many Southern Nigerians who hate the North. If you're not a Nigerian, you won't understand. Every part of Nigeria was part of an ancient kingdom.
I'm also from Edo state, benin City but reside in Lagos state😊
He is right..The Benin Kingdom is one of the oldest in Africa, their history is rich. Pictures of their Obas are in the Smithsonian in DC. I am not Edo but can attest to this fact
I'm a native of Benin-city, edo state Nigeria 🇳🇬
Ahh my good friend is from there ❤ I’d love to visir
Nigeria is Beautiful..
Welcome sisters
Nice to see the old palace still standing.
I enjoyed watching your video's as a Nigerian and uf are visiting nect time vist some places in eastern part. You mentioned visiting bauchi state when next you come i bet will like it more in Jos plateaux state too nice video and thanks for visiting our beloved country Nigeria
So many places I need to visit next time :)
As Chloe Jade says, it's better to travel around with a local.
If not try to be confident everywhere you go and be aware if your surroundings.
Also, learn how to haggle! 😅
Kano have really beautiful and colorful architecture, I was born there (our house used to be around Kofar Mata), moved in 2000 to Osun. I still kind of miss the place. Would definitely visit again one day. Lovely video Chloe, working and enjoying your video at the same time. Thank you for this, stay safe!
Thanks for visiting Nigeria
Wow, the police (soldier) didn’t ask for anything? That’s really weird and also impressive to hear. God bless him!❤️
Military officers doesn’t ask for money ...
@@user-ko4us8fu2rthey do in a lot of places in Africa
@@user-ko4us8fu2r yes, military men in Nigeria are much more mature/disciplined and protective
Lovely video! You obviously spent a whole of your time in Abuja and the North! Hence you saw the sane parts of Nigeria. You also appeared to have spent time in the sane parts of Lagos. I'm happy about the sites you visited etc in the North and I found them very educative and interesting 😊
Just one more thing, your subtitles are just crazy 😂 it doesn't reflect what they were saying a whole lot of the time 😂 for example, when the guy was taking about the Royal House, it read arroya house 😂 Also when he was talking about how a man left a legacy by building a house because he didn't have any children.... the interpretation of what he was saying was completely different from what was being written 😂 also the Hausas use a lot of she when referring to a he and this was not interpreted correctly.... 😂 it made me have a laugh.... but I sincerely hope people got the real gist of what was being said as there was a lot of beauty in it 😊❤
Thank you so much for this video. Truly enjoyed watching it ❤
