What’s the “The Professional” movie about?
Mathilda (Natalie Portman from Black Swan and Annihilation), a twelve-year old New York girl, is living an undesirable life among her half-family. Her father stores drugs for two-faced cop Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman from Harry Potter and The Dark Knight). Only her little brother keeps Mathilda from breaking apart. One day, Stansfield and his team take cruel revenge on her father for stretching the drugs a little, thus killing the whole family. Only Mathilda, who was out shopping, survives by finding shelter in Léon's (Jean Reno from Godzilla and The Big Blue) apartment in the moment of highest need. Soon, she finds out about the strange neighbour's unusual profession - killing - and desperately seeks his help in taking revenge for her little brother. Léon, who is completely inexperienced in fatherly tasks, and in friendships, does his best to keep Mathilda out of trouble - unsuccessfully. Now, the conflict between a killer, who slowly discovers his abilities to live, to feel, to love and a corrupt police officer, who does anything in his might to get rid of an eye witness, arises to unmeasurable proportions - all for the sake of a little twelve-year old girl, who has nearly nothing to lose.

portraying her character. at such an age, and doing it so MASTERFULLY... I don't really care what else natalie portman did in her career. This performance was oscar-worthy
Everybody love her acting, and her talents it's just upon the writer and character of what she play
The chemistry between Jean Reno and Natalie Portman is sublime.
It is, but you have to watch the director's cut to understand that the relationship they portray is a very very messed up love story.

So this is a pretty expensively made movie
this movie has its flaws, but the complete package makes up for it. the vibe and not knowing how it would end was amazing first time i watched it. the massacre of her family was really brutal. will never forget that scene.
On the contrary, I remember mostly everything in the movie except that
Yup. I consider myself traumatized with massacre of family scene. Everytime saw the title or leon face, memories goes back to it. 😱
I was about 7 or 8 when I saw this movie. That family massacre scene was insane.

This movie is a masterpiece, great casting and great performances.
I love how you can see a man get shot to death by 6 guys but not have the privalige of hearing the word Bastard.
Yeah, censors are out of their minds. We have a movie, which includes lot of brutal killings, bloody dead bodies, explosions and they are like : what if kids hear "fuck" or "shit" words from here ? They are mentally scarred for rest of their lives ! We have to beep them over. To save kids !
yes, censors are really out of their minds. Lot of brutal killings, bloody dead bodies are perfectly OK, but random curse word here and there has to beeped over to save kids from hearing it.
SWAT snipers: So there's a little girl in there with him, you know what that means, right? Full auto at anything that moves!
I mean yeah, the guy killed like 10 dudes and a unarmed guy who he took hostage, you think they care?

I felt so bad for.... "Go take a look guy"... killed by his own team. RIP
Those highly trained swats cant hit a stationary target 5 meters away from them for 5 seconds.
It also looks like the NYPD SWAT was carrying H&K rifles. SWAT teams used (and still do) use an AR platform and MP5s. Some of those looked like HK91s or G3s with short barrels, a really bad choice for room clearing. A full-power 7.62x51 (.308) can go through 2 people and still have enough energy to go through at least one wall. 7.62 is powerful and has lots of range but sucks for MOUT. In addition to overpenetration, .308 is louder than smaller rounds, has way more recoil and is heavier, both the rifle and especially the ammo.
They are behaving very pathetic :D see it as comedy
they actually signed up to an apprenticeship a day before raiding the apartment
Have you ever played SWAT 4? You shoot where you don't want to shoot
I guess they trained to be stormtroopers, but they failed to meet the imperial standards.
I highly suggest watching the director's cut of this amazing film
Also "Bichoo"
Thanks for reminder I did not know about its existence. Definitely placing it on my list I love the movie since I saw it for the first time many years ago.
What are the extra scenes?
@@mrrandom1265 There are _several_ extra scenes, but warning: it gets much deeper into the more dark & morally ambiguous aspects of Léon & Mathilda's relationship, it's not something for general American audiences (it was cut after a test screening).
One of the masterpieces of the cinematic arts ever made! Not many films can match the plot of this great work. Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman are at their absolute best in this mesmerizing thrilling suspense
Great movie. one of the best.
Great film. One of my favourites

COOL.! Really great film. The best one by Besson for sure. Lots of talent in this movie, Reno, Portman, Oldman...!
I love how these guys are all just hilariously incompetent
What a scene! A truly unforgettable masterpiece, and a touching film. With such a perfect cast of the Underrated Jean Reno, Natalie Portman, Gary Oldman, and so many others, it literally created a film that was perfect with such a strong emotional, action-packed storyline and what a soundtrack. Honestly, one of the very few films, that you can truly say has no flaws, and one that everyone can agree is perfect. With such a low budget to work with, created a true masterpiece, A film, that'll never be forgotten.
the only non-sci-fi worth watching over again until the end of time
Would have loved a sequel with her as the new professional.
Absolutely not. This character belongs to Jean Reno Only, which we don't have him any more. Also some movies are way better in one edition, I mean it's not a video game, just like The taxi, The fast and furious, The john wick,... Specially during this decade that Genre lost its definition, we can't say what we are watching: drama, action, romance, musical,...

One of the best action movies of all time. Too bad the sequel movie (Mathilda) did not materialized?
Such an iconic, legendary and intense scene with Jean just being amazing, like he really nailed his role. You can tell just by Leon's voice, facial expressions, and the way he acts that he just wants a peaceful life, and that Mathilda finally gets her revenge so she can live in peace & not be in the same path that Leon was facing in life. Like just how it develops over time, where it slowly builds up with his getaway, then in the end its just sadness. A scene that really makes you jump out of your seat or be on edge, hoping that Leon would get away and take them all out, which sadly in the end really shows how emotionally intense this film is. A film with so much build-up, filled with raw emotions and feelings with a film that is truly memorable, unforgettable, legendary, and filled with emotions that you honestly can't help but feel alongside the characters & the emotional story behind it, especially what happens at the end which just makes this film turn to a sudden turn of just pure sadness especially with the build-up & how emotionally intense it was. A film & song where its just pure black and white, a film & song that has such strong emotions & feelings from/to your heart. Its a film where you just feel pure raw emotion as if you're the character or if you're seeing it first hand in person. A film with such a perfect selection of a cast with such underrated actors such as Jean Reno, Natalie Portman debuting in her first ever film which launched her acting career, Gary Oldman, and so many others. A film with such an emotional bond that you honestly can't explain it fully, its something that you honestly have to feel it to experience it. Its a film that's meant to be experienced through emotion, not through explanation just like Leon whenever you would see his character's facial expressions of what he would feel, like the amount of strong emotion behind it, is incredible, especially towards the end of the movie where you'd expect it to end off in a happy ending but it ends sadly. It can't be described fully in words, just through your own heart & emotion, especially with how perfect the film was, like there's no flaws with it. It's a film filled with strong emotional, action-packed storyline and soundtracks that honestly make you feel sad for Leon and Mathilda as if you're a part of them. Jean Reno truly nailed the performance like hes so underrated, and it really shows the amount of talent Natalie had which started her career in one of the greatest films of all time like all the roles were nailed perfectly. Its just a masterpiece. Not only that but this movie didn't have much of a budget either, and it turned out to be so successful and one of the greatest films of all time, which you can't deny, its something that everyone agrees on, like it or not, it is. Luc Besson the director literally nailed it & also proved how even at the time you didn't need that need such a huge budget to accomplish these things, and what an era it was, and what a big name for European Films if not the greatest European film, in comparison with American films that need such a big budget to accomplish the effects, it really shows the difference between the two as all thats needed is raw emotion. Such a masterpiece, a film like I said filled with such an emotional bond that you honestly can't explain it fully, its something that you honestly have to feel it to experience it. Truly unforgettable, memorable and much more. I honestly wish it got more credit that it was unfortuantely given, it honestly deserved so much credit, especially an award for Jean Leno and his performance. Such a perfect selection, such a perfect story, film, and of course music selection. One of the few films where you experience raw emotion, and feelings.

fyi those are FAL's they're having, but it sounds like 9 mms or .45's. Those FAL's would shred the wall.
Negative, sir. The (very visible) rifle held by the first guy going in is a SIG SG 540. There's a lot of weapons in this movie, but not a single one is an FAL. At least one guy in this scene has a Galil AR, and the dude on the right (backing up the point man) has an HK33A2. The mysterious nonexistent FAL is chambered in .308WIN, but the three guns present here are all chambered in 5.56, which would poke a bunch of little holes in the wall, overpenetrate, and hit the snipers in the building across the alley.
@@WreckedDixie Right - i possibly mistook the FAL for the SIG in that case, but i personally don't think the handguards or stock match SIG SG, more so FALs. Granted, they are probably modified to some degree and you are probably right.
