  • This is Tod's Video Games AND MORE and today we have something completely different--a quick video of my attempt to grow Grand Naine (Chiquita) Bananas in the cold climate of Indiana. It's a short briefing on how I go about digging out and replanting the trees each year and my (lack of) success, but what I am hoping to achieve.
    Don't worry--I'll be back with more video game goodness soon!

    Now I’m looking into if these trees can grow and survive down here in northern Mississippi?
    Edit: nope. I’m zone 7. Apparently this tree needs to be in zones 9-11 sad😢

      You can cut these off at the base each fall and they will grow new in the spring. 10-12 feet each year. You may be able to cover them with mulch and a trash bag to keep the roots from freezing during the winter. Too cold here for that to work (I’ve tried) but your mileage may vary.

    my Bananas tree died last year. I started it from a seed. I still have a large bird of paradise I also started from a seed. I need to repot that thing . but man the pots are so heavy .

      Most of mine that die off in the winter will shoot new sprouts in the spring if I put them outside. It won't be long before I can move all my trees out of my garage and back into the ground :)

      @tcurtis49 my tropicals I bring in when it falls below 55 at night.
      I have a bad back. And big pots of dirt are heavy as you know. So I try not to move them.
      I've lost several things due to cold or lack of good light in the winter.

      I know what you mean. It's quite a workout moving them around. I also planted some black bamboo last fall and new shoots are coming out of the ground, so it survived.

      @@tcurtis49 doesn't black bamboo get 50 feet tall and spread like crazy??

    • @tcurtis49
      @tcurtis49  Před 4 měsíci +2

      30 feet and that type doesn't spread as easily. I also have it contained to one small area in my yard so it can't escape...I hope :)
