    Completely agree with your conclusion. Those Ohuhu markers are sooo good, especially for the price, but the overall finish on the Windsor and Newton side was crisper, had better tonal balance, and laid much smoother on the paper.
    But if Ohuhu find a way to crack that ink quality while still retaining their price point, then that will be a game changer!

    • @ADCArtAttack

      @CraftyColourist Před rokem +1

      I agree about the final finish for W&N, it does look much smoother and not as mottled. I do usually love bright, vibrant colours, but the less smooth finish takes that away from Ohuhu a little for me.

  • @samguentherillustration
    @samguentherillustration Před rokem +9

  • @bruceschlickbernd8475
    @bruceschlickbernd8475 Před rokem +9

    Didn’t think it was a contest looking at the two sides - pro markers in a far more decisive victory than I thought it would be. Perhaps I’m not influenced by over saturated colors as much as others, but the Promarker side was smoother, more evenly blended, without surface mottling. You can replace the strongest point of the new Ohuhu markers - the chisel nib - with their Brush tip. But the one that I’d want to replace (the bullet nib) has far too small an opening (I’m looking at my brush/bullet nibbed Ohuhu skin tone collection to judge that). So - still will wait for a super-chisel plus brush variant.
    Ohuhu’ s site, last I checked after your previous video, does not note individual ink refills at all. They aren’t currently available, nor is there any hint of them. So, until that actually is confirmed by Ohuhu themselves, there’s a definite limit to Ohuhu in replacing used up markers. No individual markers as replacements (beyond 16) and no ink refills. W&N Promarker Brush? Kind of a narrow selection - 72 colors, and that’s been for a while now. They are not even a tenth as aggressive as Ohuhu at expanding their line. I can get the set of 48 for a decent price - $100 shipped (Dick Blick Art Supplies). But at least I can get individual replacements. Copic seemed an expensive but more professionally attuned option (and I got mine at under $2 a marker, about the same as the W&N).
    So, still hoping for a chisel/brush version of the Ohuhu, and an actual, non-vaporware ink refill. Until then - *great* beginner option, but flawed long term solution. Quick check at the Ohuhu site: search for “ink refills”. Nothing. At least as of yet. Checks specific listing for Kaala. Watches video. Nope. Nothing about ink refills.
    Thanks as always for the comparison! It was fun.

    I myself have been using Pro/Brushmarkers for years now and they are my favorite brand of alcohol markers buuut... I'm looking for some (cheaper) alternatives and after watching your videos I... really don't know 😁 I'd love to give the Ohuhu markers a try (I'll just wait until my wallet recovers from Christmas...) especially with the brush nibs. I mostly draw cartoons so the vibrant colors are important for me. The only downside with the Ohuhu markers (but that's just me) is that I can't buy them in any art store, I can only buy them online which is a shame because whenever I run out of some color and I need it asap, I can just go to the art store and get it. With the Ohuhus, not so much... :( most of the art stores in my area sell Promarkers (and some other brand called Creadu but they only come in sets) so I'm kinda stuck :D Also, today I learned that I can buy the Ohuhu markers individually, not in sets so that's also important because if I run out of a color I can just buy one marker and I don't have to wait until I use up all the markers from the set or buy a brand new set just to get the one color I need 😏

    I really love your coloring video. It is so relaxing while you compare and provide new content. Your coloring is super amazing really. Can I request one product to check? If you like to try watercolor, there is a brand that gives a finish similar to copic markers. It is called Dr Ph. Martin hydrus watercolors. What I like about it is when the color is dry and brush over it another color, it does not pull the first layer color (similar to markers) and if you use smooth papers, then you will have a similar finish of marker painting. I am using myself and I thought of sharing if you want to give it a go like another challenge ☺️👌✨.

    I'm guessing you used the brush tips from the Honolulu series to put in the Kaalas? That's all I seem to be able to find online. I do also like the chisel tip and was well pleased with the ink coverage of the Kaalas, but I do like a brush tip! It just blends better than the bullet or chisel I feel. Replacing just the nib is more expensive than the marker though! They work out to $1.25/nib so that significantly increases the per marker cost. I'd be better off to buy a whole new set of brush Kaalas when/if they get released if they're the same price.
    Also, just out of curiosity, what fine liners do you use? I have a few Sakura Pigma Micron fine liners left over from my college art class days and I really liked them back then (nearly 20 years ago). They had been sitting in a box in my closet for all those years with no use and no special care taken, but I pulled them out yesterday to do some line work and THEY STILL WORKED, and beautifully at that. I was just amazed that they have lasted this long.

    Gr8 video w/ a lot of review points on both brands of markers! I prefer the lower cost markers w/ less colors but do have the replacement ablities in my opinion have the color vibrance I prefer over the realism look. I am by no means a talented artist like urself or many others out there, but I prefer the somewhat cartoons color design look. Gr8 video w/ gr8 reviews...keep the videos coming!!! Til next tyme...keep those cre8ive juices abrewing!!!

    Promarkers are better in terms of contrast but I will take the Ohuhu markers because of its vibrance and I just ordered a 48 color set of ohuhu. Your videos are awesome! keep up the good work these videos make me happy and make correct decisions for art

    I would love to try both,but for money sakes, I would have to choose ohuhu . My marker skills are not that up to snuff and at 120per the bunch I think I'd be happy. Plus it's per preference anyhow. Have a happy holiday ADC

    you can not deny the quality of W and N, but for my budget Ohuhu is the best. I love them, I use them, and remember, you are the one who introduced me to them. so I have no complaints.

    I agree with you, if we ignore the price then Windsor and Newton, they’re a smoother finish whilst ohuhu is more gritty almost. If we acknowledge the price than it’s got to be ohuhu

    i find myself that winsor and newton are just perfect, the drawing i also pick the expensive side.
    However for the game feeling i think ohuhu and it's more saturated colors are better.
    Price wise i'd go for ohuhu obviously.
    also how do i just keep missing the streams 🤔

    I love my Winsor & Newton but only have a set of 48 which limits my color palette. I cant afford any more at the moment. I think Ohuhu are great for low budget peeps that want a quality marker. I gave a set for an Angel Tree gift this year for a little girl asking for art supplies.

    Ohuhu looks fantastic, i personally enjoy the more gritty look that it gives. The pro markers are just WAY too high for what they are.. both are great, pro just needs to drop the price tag by about 500 bucks

  • @brennanklitzke3683
    @brennanklitzke3683 Před rokem

    Looking at the two sides together I personally think the ohuhu is better because the colors pop more and stand out where as the pro markers are more desaturated and flat. But that’s just me
