  • In part two of our Pima's Frankenplanes series, the @PimaAirSpaceMuseum 's CEO Scott Marchand and Director of Collections Andrew Boehly explain the careful considerations behind displaying the collection's Hawker Hurricane as BG974, the mount of US Ace L.C. Wade DSO, DFC**. Together, they shed light on the meticulous work behind the restoration of these 'Frankenplanes,' blending parts from various sources to tell L.C.'s incredible story. Note: Sorry for the shakey camera work and Andy's coughing fit!

I am glad you did not have to put Andy together again with different parts... 😆

Looks like a Hurricane with 12 .303 machineguns, which Andy diligently filmed. That would make it a MkIIb Hurricane. Great story about L. C. Wade. It does seem that the rules were somewhat lax in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations for the RAF during this period with regards to reporting "Kills" seeing as both Pattle and Wade were unofficially top aces from this area.

One could argue that the claims made are all open for debate. For the Luftwaffe in the desert, if you claimed one, it counted.

some were upgunned in various configurations for North Africa as combat altitudes were lower than Europe and the opposition were earlier 109's at best, likely 109E.
P40 were also a successful mount in the desert for the same reasons.

The coughing make it authentic. This is definitively not made by KI. THX for the Info.
