I’d love to watch a video of Boomer explaining what he did to learn Japanese. I’m assuming he got to Japan knowing very little. (New subbie so I could be wrong!) Things like What Apps he used, studying techniques, programs, how he picked his language school, etc. what worked and what didn’t work. I’m thinking about moving to Japan in the next few years and I don’t know a whole lot. Love your channel!! You guys are super cute!! Thanks for the great videos!!
Thanks for the comment. I mostly went to Japanese school here. I new a little before I got here, but not much past the basics (hiragana, katakana and some phrases).

i only discovered this channel recently. it's nice to have as virtual company [this pandemic has been /so/ isolating, and my living quarters are tiny -- just a room and a tiny kitchen and two other housemates]. of the handful of videos i've watched so far, there's something comforting about them. the music and editing helps, but i think it's also largely the genuine unscripted not-trying-too-hard feeling; it makes me feel just a bit better about the world out there that the two of you share your personalities and chemistry with us.
haha and you both also have a lovely, comforting sense of domestic style, eg the doggie pattern on the bedsheets, the cute-animal curtains.
i think youtube recommended this channel because i was watching matt vs japan (a lanaguage learning channel with a non-traditional philosophy for learning japanese). i admittedly clicked it because i thought "who is this hunky guy in the thumbnail? lets click it". and then i found out that boomer is a humble guy who seems kind (and i relate to his student lifestyle!), and i found out that loretta is warm, seems extraverted, and energetic. and together they have this chemistry between them, which gives the videos a supportive, authentic feeling, somehow. i'm glad i have found these videos to keep me a little bit company now and then during this isolated time in my life

I'm about to graduate with my bachelor's degree in IT. It's been a long long road (5 years) balancing school with my kids (I'm a single mom), living with family, and dealing with a tight tight budget. There won't be a graduation ceremony or party, thanks to the virus. (I wouldn't want the party anyway.) But now...thinking about it....it just feels so anti-climatic. I did all that hard work for this!?!?!?!?!

I felt the same way about my graduation. I didn't even know I wanted on until it was cancelled. I worked really hard and studied a lot and now it's just over.

Congrats, Boomer! I just passed my first semester studying abroad in Tokyo! I'm surprised they had you guys come in for finals! My school went entirely online since early last month! It sucked not getting that social aspect anymore since I was basically just working on stuff by myself since then. But now, I have a 3.375 GPA, baby! Temple, here I come (after next semester hopefully)!
It was just language school and they need the final test scores to report to the government so they can stay open, probably the the only reason they had us come in

It goes up to N1 but I only made it to the N2 level
Home gardening..! if you guys grow any plants/herbs, or daily routine / work routine during quarantine, I've been having trouble keeping a schedule in the new reality so.. boomer could show us some home exercises to do in small spaces so everyone can stay active...and or maybe shows you're watching during the lock down that you recommend.

I know that they have some digital design courses. I believe they use photoshop or illustrator for them, but not sure which one. Other than that I'm not sure.

Is the Senmon Gakkou like an associate's degree? I've seen that some schools like FFLC in Fukuoka offer's an "associate's degree" so I wonder if this is the same thing. Do you feel it is useful in terms of finding a job? Just curious how much value it has, since as I don't have a bachelor's degree

Hi @Boomlore! Would you recommend YDC for their language program? I was considering it for part time study abroad, thank you and congratulations for graduating!
It depends on what you want to get out of it. I think it's good for a getting a decent base for Japanese and the activities they have outside of school are a lot of fun. There are also a lot of European and Americans there (or will be after the pandemic is over) and not just Chinese people, which has been a complaint I've heard from other people who went to language school. If it's strictly for the JLPT then maybe look somewhere else. Every time I took the JLPT I was not ready for the level they recommended I take.
Is this school a good option for a Gap Year? I'm currently a junior in high school and want to spend my Gap year in Japan, if possible.
Also is it possible to take both a language and art class at the same time at this place? (Sorry if it's a lot of questions, I'm struggling to find information on this place)

Yep, that's why I have the hand sanitizer with me. I generally don't wear face masks and it's damn near impossible to find them and buy them here now.

It's safe. They also have a highschool with girls (not for the language school though). For younger girls I would suggest living at a dorm (the school has one) or finding a homestay (I don't know if there are options through the school).

What does this post graduation time do to your visa?
If on a student visa, the rule is that the day you graduate you are no longer allowed to work (part time or otherwise) because you are no longer doing the original visa activity. You have about 1 to 3 months (depending on law at the time, it changed again this past October 2019) to switch to a job hunting visa (which your original school can sponsor) or switch to a work visa.
Ideally, you would already have a work offer from a company who could sponsor your work visa ASAP.
In our case Boomer is not on a student visa (see our Q&A video about our jobs and family plan in Japan) so he can continue working and job hunting as needed.
I'm not a lawyer but passing on this years info from our lawyer.
