I Drove 10 HOURS Through the Most Dangerous Roads in Laos 🇱🇦

- In this video we take a the ultimate Road Trip across Northern Laos, starting in Vientiane and ending in Luang Prabang via Vang Vieng. Seriously, these mountain roads in Northern Laos were so dangerous, narrow, and some even on cliff faces, but they allowed us to wind through small Laos villages, getting a glimpse of the life of the mountain villages and real rural life in remote Laos. We try some street food oranges from a local store just outside of the Laos town of Kasi, before getting lost half way up a steep, muddy mountain and taking directions from Chinese Truck Drivers.
This is definitely not the easiest way to see Northern Laos - if you want the touristy, easy way you can take the Lao-China Railway - but if you are adventurous and want to do something that will really push you, this part of the world offers a challenging drive with many, many rewards along the way - perhaps just plan it a little better than we did! Whilst other parts of Laos are more drivable, the state of the roads here mean that things can quickly become more difficult, more dangerous, and much scarier very quickly - but we had a blast and would do it again in a heart beat!

Already subscribed some months ago. Loved the karst mountain and river views, your candid coverage of roads and car hire as well as the eg: breakfast montage to expedite time - nothing worse than vloggers dragging the chain through mundane moments. What was the price per night of the luxury hotel room in Vang Vieng?
@@soniacozens8638 First of all, thank you so much for subscribing! 😁🙏🏻 Second, I told Michael that this is my favourite video I have ever made, haha, from an editing view, I had a bit of extra time to edit this one (usually besides my Christmas break I upload 2-3 videos a week so I don’t have much time to really edit it the way I like or want to etc) and I really think this was my best work so far haha. So thank you so much for the compliment, it’s nice to get reassurance 😁
As for the price, I have no idea as Michael paid as a gift, but I’ll ask him for you when he gets back to the room 😂😁
Actually you take the shortcut but google make you confuse, so you turn back on the old road which is very damaged.
3-4 hours is the average time from vangvieng to Luangprabang. But the old way has its view, people will see what local people do. Hope you enjoy your trip.
From local in luangprabang
Oh Michael you beautiful man! You are too of course Josie (beautiful woman hahaha). I just love how supportive Michael is of you, very sweet to see.
What an adventure! Loved the countryside scenery. I felt some of those potholes. Vientiane looks amazing and to think you weren't going there- what a great surprise to see how beautiful it was and to discover all it had to offer. Great video- enjoyed it immensely! The road trip was definitely worth it - thanks for sharing!
You two are really lucky to have each other to share such amazing experiences with. I traveled SE Asia by myself and it was both the most amazing experiences and also the most lonely because I was on my own. Enjoy you guys -it's amazing you have been able to adventure for so long!!

Thank you for promoting our small country. That's help our economics a lot. Khop jai lay lay
Love every single part of this one. I know I’m bias but I see the work that goes in to what you do, and this video is 1000000% your best - ironic probably the least people will see it, because Laos just isn’t as popular 😂 but it’s 100% your best video yet and I can’t wait to look back on this one in the future.
For everyone else’s benefit, I can drive a manual I just haven’t in a long time and the cars mirrored to what I’m used to 😂
Thank you cutie. You know I was proud of this one 😁🙏🏻🥰
Vang Vieng is like a paradise of Laos. So many activities there, too bad you didn't have enough time for any of it. It would be nice if you could at least visit 1 of the 4 caves there. I love Vang Vieng and Luang Probang Laos.
Thank you so much for coming to Laos.
Enjoyed your road trip video. Amazing views especially the aerial shots. By the way, I think there’s an Aussie Bar in LPB. I’d love to see you guys climbing the steps of the Pusi Temple. 😅
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed watching as much as I enjoyed editing and filming the video!
Hello, I am Laos🇱🇦. I like your video💖💖💖🌹🌹🌹
Hello, have a nice trip with FC Laos.💓

It is indeed a different experience!! Thanks for watching!! 🙏🏼
You went to the right way from Kasi to Luangprabang, if you turn left at Kasi it will be tough at Phou Kao Lak (KM 9 mountain). Good luck and enjoy !
Amazingly beautiful scenery in " Vang Viang"...
It's so beautiful 🥺🥺😁
Love this video. “Scotland without the bagpipes!”😂 a great tagline for the Laos tourist board… Also, I wonder if there’s a chain of coffee shops in South America called Mekong Cafe?
This comment made me laugh so hard hahaha! Mekong cafe coffee 😂😂😂😂 hahaha Gareth I don’t know why that was so funny but you did good 😂😁
welcome to Laos and enjoy the trip in Laos love love love
Love the road trip video, so much more to see/share than the trains. I hope it does well so there are more like this in the future 😉
Okay well I love this comment! Thank you so much! Yeah the more convenient travel becomes the less most people see I guess, while we knew it wasn’t going to be popular on CZcams we made such good memories and that’s what’s important to us while travelling! So glad you liked it. I actually think this was one of my favourite if not my favourite video! Thank you for watching 🥰😁😂❤️
Sabaidee, I am Lao living in USA…..wow thank you for sharing the video. Enjoy your trip and have a safe drive..!

I am truly impressed how you manage to edit this lol
With all of the shaking? It was hard! laugh😂😂😂
I like you very thank for tour laos❤️❤️
Woukd loooove to see the aud prices on the screen when you buy things or refer to how much things cost in the local currency!! such a good bud btw! You were right, up there with the best!
Definitely! I do it when I have time but sometimes when it takes me longer than expected to edit I run a bit too far behind to go back through. And my computer died trying to export this one so I didn’t want to push my luck 😂😂 it’s in the next one though! ❤️😁🥰
Yes agree on the currency text view!
Hey we're in vang Vieng at the mo..we went out to find something to eat tonight and found ourselves at a sandwich stall and bought a couple.. came back to our room and ate etc.. decided to watch this vid of yours and saw that you had been to the same stall/woman! Ha 😊x

Thank you so much! Appreciate it. ❤️🙏🏼
Yes, I live in the US, Laos is my mother’s country and I think traveling is more safer than the others and more friendly when you meet the lao people
wonderful trip amazing moutain in laos .if have chance .go to see .
I said it when I met my wife and then all through life till your video now. It should be mandatory to take your drivers exam in a standard shift vehicle. But still loved the adventure and video!! I remember the first time I was in Japan on the "Wrong" side. Took me about a week to get used to it!
Hahaha my mother has told me the exact same thing 😂😂 which is why all of my cars and everything I drove was manual until my last car which I thought would be my future family car but then I sold it to come here overseas! Haha. He can drive a manual we haven’t driven any cars in over a year and the car is flipped, so you’re Changing gears with the opposite hand. I would’ve been confused too, not what I’m used to! We sit on the other side of the car in Australia and drive on the other side of the road 😂😄😅
Right! He did get used to it pretty quickly especially driving on a mountain I’ll give him that! 😂
So glad you liked the video! It is one of my favourites 😅😄
Love you from Savannakhet province
Loving the Laos series but I’ve been waiting for the road trip video ever since the Instagram posts 😂😂😂😂
This is honestly one of my favourite videos ever!! Haha it was so much fun to do and to edit! I love it laugh😂

$1.12 per kilo…it’s that price everywhere in Laos…if orange from Thailand it’s double
Welcome to Lao🇱🇦

Hi sister welcome to Laos 🇱🇦 ❤
Hi there thank you so much 🥰🫶🏻😁
Hello, I like your song very much
Thank you! 😁
Welcome to Laos
Wow mbak bule keliling dunia mantap 👍👍👍
You guys are pretty good of speaking Lao.
I always try and learn as much language as I can when I go to a country! 😁🫶🏻🙏🏻
The moment when you realized that it's manual instead of Automatic 🤣 I do really feel ya, Mike 🥹 (that was my experience renting a car in Europe, driving from Bucharest to Transylvania. I kid you not, I was about to cry multiple times, since in Cambodia I only drive automatic 😣)
Anyway, glad you had a great time. Gonna watch up all ur vids in Laos since I'm planning to go there in a few months. Cheers!
Welcome to lao 🥰ຍິນດີຕ້ອນຮັບສູ່ ສປປລາວ
It's alright being different, Josie and Michael. Not every vloggers have to take the train in Lao, as long as you do what you like to do
Anw, if I'm in Vang Vieng, I will just enjoy the city, the mountain, and the river (but not by kayaking, just sitting in riverside drinking coffee 🤣)
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed watching! 😊
Welcome....
Great way to learn to drive a manual transmission, I like the car more that the train for scenery.
HahHaha he CAN drive one, we just haven’t driven anything ourselves in a whole year plus this one was on the opposite side of the car so everything’s backwards 😂 but I still think I’m a better driver 😉 😂
Welcome to laos
ຂອບໃຈຫລາຍໆທີ່ມາເທີ່ຍວປະເທດລາວ🤟🥰
Thank you so much for having a beautiful country ❤️
We'll come to Laos
Wow ສູດຍອດຫຼາຍ
Welcome 🇱🇦
Thank you! 😁😁
You didn’t overcharged for the oranges. 20,000kip per kilo is the standard price for locals as well. I think they even gave you discount or gave you more :)
Welcome to in laos ❤️❤️
Goodmorning
