- Canedy & Edwards was established by William Eaton Canedy in 1889 when he moved his firm, the Minnesota Anvil & Vice Co. to Downers Grove, IL and took William H. Edwards as a partner. The business began in Rochester, Minnesota, but had moved to the Chicago area by 1889. By 1894, Albert T. Otto had joined the firm, the company name had changed to Canedy-Otto Manufacturing Co. and they had moved again to Chicago Heights, IL. The company was dissolved in 1942, but was then revived for a time, perhaps as part of the war effort. In 1949 the company was sold at public auction and was acquired by Cincinnati Lathe & Tool Co. and operated as the "Canedy-Otto Division" of that firm. This division reportedly lasted until 1956, but at least some of the Canedy-Otto product line continued under the "Cincinnati Lathe & Tool Co." name.
In their earlier days Canedy-Otto primarily made blacksmithing equipment, such as post drills, tire shrinkers and blowers. In later years they made heavy-duty drill presses, plus they made a combination machine for working wood and metal. #restoration #oldiron

Beauty of a restoration. You tube is fast becoming a shitty thing for those who make video's. Thank you for sticking with it.
I wish I had a place for a forge. That blower would be perfect. I spent many hours cranking one of those in my Garndfather's shop and enjoyed every minute watching him shape metal.
Once again Aweaome restoration. Wish my Dad was here to watch your Restorations. He was disabled in 1978 so he would sit outside under his shed when it was cool enough an tinker with what ever he found to redo or make run again. Thank you for Sharing
I absolutely love what you do! Good of the Land is Great for my Soul.
You appreciate history and only do enough to your projects to save them and insure the next 100yrs.
Thank you! Keep the videos coming
Thank you Jason! You made my day!
That looks like a masterpiece! Well done!
Now THAT is a restoration done RIGHT!
Thanks Road Dog!
Good craftsman👏Very nice result
Turned out beautiful!!!
Thank you!
Outstanding restoration Justin, defiantly going to have to build myself a version of your ultrasonic, heated evap-o-rust tank 👍👍🇦🇺
Great repair. I really like your changes to endorsed products. Seeing them work is both more likely to make be them and doesn’t take away from your content. Now I need to go get some rust converter.
+Ian Levine its is good stuff. Much tougher than black paint and looks fantastic.
You can take the man away from the anvil, but you cannot take the anvil out of the man; loved the rhythm strokes, you've spent time in a forge.
Another great looking restoration
Nice restoration job pleasure to watch.
Great restoration, and great wrench.
Great job!
For some reason I stopped getting notifications for these videos and I don't know why it stopped but I found you again and I will continue watching!
Just put out a new one last night. Thanks brother!
Good stuff, Justin! I love the approach you have to these videos, tho I do like seeing yer smilin' face too! Great vid, Great blower too! 23 well-spent minutes!!!!
Great restoration came out very nice justin @TheGoodOfTheLand
Off topic a bit, but today I ordered a Katadyn, you mentioned it a while back. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
We absolutely love ours. We installed a cheap carbon pre filter. Water out of a lake tast like water! Thanks Brother!
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
That looks like a handy little wrench. I've seen then before now let me think. Now I remember HTR!! Great video
same here
I have actually used those wrenches. I always used them in the other direction. Or side.
I should get one of those wrenches.
+Hand Tool Rescue I keep forgetting to get one of the small ones.
Absolutely amazing. I have 2 of those, my Dad left them to me. One is standing on the base... maybe I'll try to clean them up.👍 Thanks for the great content 👍
Great vid. That bit of red made all the difference.
Nice job, very interesting video!
Great video as always, thanks buddy!
Thanks!
That thing is beautiful nice work
Nice job sir🖖🤙✌👍
Can't beat the sound of an air tool in the morning. Loved the TIG work, could you do sone content on TIG.
Good luck my best friend 🥰🥰🥰🥰
+Ahmad Osama Thank you!
Found one of these in the scrap yard 6 months ago fully functional but rusty and dirty. Now it's almost as new again after restoration. Note: funny how I also painted the fan red 👍😁
Looks great Justin. Hope you are doing well my friend.
Super jest to odrestaurowane pozdrawiam serdecznie 👍👍👍👍👍
Super resorer👍
Hand Tool Rescue wrenches! Haha, first time I saw them on here.
Its one of my favorites!
I’ve never been early to one of these, well. Good luck!
+HD Grim Glad you caught it early!
The grinding of rust was oddly satisfying...
I felt the same way.
Very cool
There you go. i was waiting for the slurry-o-matic to clean some parts!!
Love that thing! Nest tool build, large powder coat oven!
Loved the restoration! It could have used pearl grips though! ...Newk from Kentucky
Good luck 👍👍👍
"Heated Ultrasonic Evapo-Rust Tank"
I see what you did there :)
You should check out the video. Its a beast!
Ficou muito bom 👏👏👏🇧🇷
So cool! I have one too🙂
Sweet!
Thanks
Very nice
Thank you!
Awesome restoration bro 👍👍👍💣🔥👌🏽🤝🇷🇺
I had no idea there were that many gears inside one of those. Nicely done. :)
What liquid did you use to turn that bolt black?
Cold blue I'd guess.
@@jamiemahoney2446 Thank you. :)
exccellent job
Good...🇬🇧👍
Gostei.
Great Project! What is that adjustable wrench that you have? Love it, Thanks
Yup I was wondering if you were going to mention where you got that handy little wrench from🤣🤣 most of us know already he has great vids just as you've got great vids as well
I always wonder how you keep track of all those small parts when doing a restoration. Looks great!
Just years of taking cars apart and putting them back together.it becomes second nature after a while.
Beautiful work on the blower. I’m a blade smith , and use a hand ranked forge. My blower isn’t near as nice , but it works. How much do u usually get out of something like that blower? I’m kinda interested in it.
I haven't seen Evapo-Rust on your channel in a while. Seems like it would have saved you a lot of work. Even if they aren't sponsoring, it's still a great product for projects like this...
I did use Evapo-Rust in this video. Just like to clean the parts before I dunk em. I found that if I pre clean the parts the solution last longer. Its finally time to order some more.
Thanks brother
Any time you repair, tmrebuuld or restore anything there will be people that say its destroyed.
Need to get back to grind stone as they say and find restoration videos.
See that you got a set of " Hand Tool Rescue" wrenches
HOW I WISH, ALL THE RESTORERS USED THE RIGHT SIZED SCREW DRIVERS AND "FIXED" SIZE SPANNERS !!!
Alternative to BLO is Flood Pernetrol for a clear metal protectant.
Lol you can spot a blacksmith when you see him keep his hammering rythm on the table while he is straightening the handle
I need to get my anvin and forge back from the Tractor Grounds.
pongan los vidéoz por favoŕ rrapido?
Yes! Indeed! The guys use to listen I Got The Rithym! ☺
One could say they work like a Swiss watch...
Очень круто умеешь шморкать отверткой
How do you keep the shop clean from all grinding dust and grime? Seems like mine gets ultra dirty just open the door :/
Great restoration and love all your videos!
It is crazy how dirty the floor gets! I feel your pain!
Just out of curiosity, why not use a walnut shell blast to remove the rust? It looks awesome btw.
One issue is that cheap blasting setups don't work very well. I built a vapor cabinet out of my blaster gecause of this. It works great but is still a light duty setup. I have a pressure tank and it works great but is a huge pain in the butt and makes a mess. I have found that a wire wheel works very fast and removes most of the paint oil and rust. It is the cheapest. I do want and will soon build a proper sandblasting cabinet. To answer your question i guess it all comes down to money and time. Thanks Harold!
Beautiful restoration there. I'm assuming it will need to be filled with oil before use.
+Larry Smith Yes. Even had the instructions cast into the sides. Very cool. I added a touch of grease for assembly but due to shipping I'm leaving the oiling for the winner.
Amazing job how much and will it Fry an Egg Thumbs Up
HEAVY DUTY BLCKSMIT
I'm glad to see that you took my advise on how to weld cast iron.
I'm a good listener. Thanks Ronald!
Was that superglue? I’ve seen it used while on a lathe, bet never on a non moving surface.
What kind of ratchet were you using, I like the bendy low profile of it
hey ur wrench is from Hand Tools Restoration tube....did you get it through his patreon...
Have you seen any casting or punch marks that show "LMF" on that blower?
What kind of sorcery was that at 16:15 when you put that bolt in the liquid and it turns black!? I know nothing about restoration but that right there was super cool lol
в центральном отверстии воздухозабора должна стоять металлическая решётка с металлической сеткой, и держаться она должна на выемке, остатки которой вы срезали эктронапильником 13:11
Happy Father's Day Y'all
Is there a minimum on the auction.
Great work! I see your camera likes to focus on your table instead of the work you are doing. Im sorry, I have that problem too.
It is so frustrating when I'm editing. Sometimes I run multiple cameras just for this problem.
Good job on that restoration. I find that many of the channels I follow have 'before video' adds for someone that I would never vote for. Wonder how I can block those ads?
You can get youtube premium. Its worth it if you watch alot of CZcams. No commercials.
I don't think I've ever seen one of those type of blowers before.
Its a rare one for sure
Interesting video, but have you made any progress on Mark's tractor?
Sure have. Still plenty to go but we are back on it now. This Corona really hurt us.
Where can I find one of those little" F" adjustable wrenches you are always using.?
Hand tool rescue makes and sells them
+Nole Hopkins Hand tool rescue on CZcams makes them!
Sweet Ill take a look. Thanks guys
Interesting. I've never seen a "wet" blast cabinet before.
+BossmanEight I made a video on the build. Its a fantastic tool. Not made for every job but it works great when it's needed.
@@TheGoodoftheLand , advantages of a wet cabinet over a dry cabinet?
the gearbox was in a lot better condition than i was thinking
Same here. I would say it was barely used.
Heated ultrasonic Evaporust tank? How can you get so many great thinks in one sentence?
When that yellow brush came out, at first i thought it was a piece of molten steel...
Nice piece what is the value of a thank you👍👌
THANKS!
How long does evaporust last? would it be worth it to add a pump to your heated ultrasponic tank and run the fluid thru a 1 micron filter?
Its hard to say. I use 30 gallons so it takes alot to break it down. I would say twenty heavy uses for a gallon, maby more. The water in the Evapo-Rust evaporats and it is absolutely ok to add back water. Perhaps I should see if I can recover, filter and test it. I have 20 micron bag filters for the heavy solids. I could hook up my pump to progressively finer filters. Just need to know the micron size of the Evapo-Rust itself.
My thought is there is a chemical bond that takes place and the active ingredient are attached to the rust and would require a reaction to free them.
@@TheGoodoftheLand evaporust won't give that info so you can use less of their product :) try just running the liquid thru a coffee filter-cheap but might work-just do that manually once a week? worth a try possibly...
I have never seen a blower like that. A late model CO blower for a post mount with flat head screws and nuts on the case.
I see it. But I do not believe it.
And I have restored, rebuilt many Canedy Otto forges and blowers
Where is the rest of it?
What are the ratio of the transmission?
I will have to count, now that you mention it I'm curious.
What did you use to turn that bolt black like that..
+Kris Smith Blue solution. You can buy it on Amazon
@@TheGoodoftheLand gun blueing?
@@coldbloodedkidz860 yup
Always forget that you have ALL the cool tools. Heated sonic rust treatment tank, vaporblast cabinet, dynafiles, pneumatic grinders, parts washer with the juice. Everything!
Also meh. You did a good job on the beer tap. There were some stylistic choices I didn't necessarily agree with but if it hadn't been restored soon it would have been literally trash, so...
😄👍👍👍
Do you have any plans to team up with Hand Tool Rescue for a video in the future?
+doteman92 Eric is my buddy. He has come down to Texas two years in a row for the Gotl fest. Very solid guy and possibly the funniest guy i have ever met. Super smart guy. Check out his stapler resto video.
@@TheGoodoftheLand I watch his channel on a regular basis.
Best is sandblasting treatment
Sandblasting is good but it has its downside as well. I prefer to have multiple ways of dealing with the clean up. Thanks for watching!
Great restoration and video!
Sorry to hear patreon didn't work out for you... I'm unfamiliar with their guidelines, what kind of free speech don't they like/allow?
9 bids on eBay... 😎👍
What's the status on Mark's tractor?
+SNELLERIZED GARAGE getting closer. I may drop a video on the hood. It was really bad. Had to cut it apart and re build it. Thanks1
