1968 square stern fiberglass canoe that my brother and I started restoring 95% done and then unfortunately my brother passed away he was retired from Chris Craft boat company he built the mold for the boats. It still needs a bow cover and painted. That's why I'm watching your video I'm hoping I could learn how to finish my canoe it has been in the rafters of the barn since my brother's passing it is very unique I haven't seen another one like it.
Derek Thank you for telling us your story. Definitely finish that boat while you can, it will mean more to you than anyone else. And if your skill set is not up to his any there is an obvious difference between your work and his, don’t worry about it. That will give him something to rag you about when you meet up again.
Just picked up a beat-up old fibreglass canoe with the intention of fixing up and making it look good again. After watching your video I quickly realized I am very under-qualified for the task lol. Great video!
Nice work! I built fiberglass canoes for years. The reason they don't enclose the floatation is because hot air will expand in the sun and cause the ends to buckle and/or crack, so it needs a hole to breath.
I really appreciate this video. My father in law gave us an old Radisson canoe, I think they are called Sportspal now. I am doing a restoration project on it and your video was very insightful! Thank you
Really enjoyed your video. I did a canoe several years ago. Didn't turn out as well yours. But it's serviceable, I use it for some duck hunting and just messing around. And yes it was beat all to heck too.
I watched most of your CC boat videos and enjoyed them. It would be great to see a wrap-up video on that boat in the water, sort of a post-project tour. Thanks for the work you out into the videos.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. You are correct, that is something I should and will do. As soon as I get a pesky water pump issue ironed out! Barry
That canoe has NEVER looked so good ! Nice job there buddy ! No big deal about adding a couple of pounds , it’s still not heavy . Your grandkids best appreciate the effort you did for them ! Hahaha. Nice video and NO don’t donate the purple shit , on your next boat repair use it in the patch job and let it live forever that way ! Lol
Thanks Eric! Turned the little boat over to my son and I never got to even get it wet! How fair is that! Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words. Barry
I'm doing one right now almost exactly like this. I wondered how the heck it had the little cardboard stringers in the floor and am I really seeing this or going crazy (ground them out). Great video.
My son took it for a trip down the Tangipahoa River witch is shallow moving water with lots of downed trees to drag over. He punched two holes in the sides up high. I guess that’s why they no longer make fiberglass canoes. In deeper still water they are probably fine. Thanks for watching!
I’ve just been given a vintage glass canoe. I’ll be restoring it as well. You can see it on my channel. Mine seems a bit heavier than yours by the looks of it. We live on a still water lagoon. After watching yours and other videos on the topic, I’m leaning towards fresh gel coat. Sorry about the new holes. Hope you guys were able to patch them up. Thanks again for sharing your experience. Cheers and happy new year!
Great job !
Saved from landfill.
HS thanks! Yes, that’s where it would have been.

I always enjoy your episodes, you get me smiling several times throughout. "Is it worth fixing? absolutely not, am I going to fix it, of course" :D
Just speaking the truth!
Thanks Donnie.

Come on man, don't sell your self short! Thanks for the kind words but don't be scared. You can do it.

There's a lot of subtle but great lessons to get from this. Much appreciated!
Thank you Brian, glad you enjoyed!

Thanks Alan! Makes good sense about the expansion, I hope I don't have it sealed too well.

@@barrylukebuilds7894 should be fine.
Great stuff! Getting ready to tackle a small canoe I picked up for free to use for hunting season. Thank you
No problem, glad you enjoyed! Good luck with your project.

@@barrylukebuilds7894 A problematic water pump sounds like the subject for another great Barry Luke video🙂
Grandpa doing Grandpa's job...love it! Ps: hate sanding 😂
Thanks Man! I have a love hate relationship with sanding. Somedays I am ok with it and some days I am with you.
I love the paint on the Inside, gives it an old school Patina
Thanks Joe! And it was kinda fun to do.

Thanks Dave! Maybe that shirt might make a good patch, It is mostly resin and paint anyway.
Thanks again

Very cool project I like it but you didn’t show the maiden voyage?? Seriously good vid
Thanks Eric!

You are the Savior of wayward boats!😜
I do have a track record don't I.
O well, I could get in worse trouble.
I have a similar situation on a jon boat with the bottom having a hook. I'm going to try your method for straightening it. Great video.
Thank you Levi! Kind words keep me going. Good luck on your project!

your doing such a great job bro your new viewer here from philippines
Thank You KB!

I hope yours were installed a little straighter than mine! Looked like Ray Charles put mine in.

Can't beat filling your lungs with Isocyanate.
Never sure how to take these types of comments.
@@barrylukebuilds7894 Please wear a mask when spraying that stuff.
Any idea what make that canoe is? I have one with the same style seats but a square stern
Sorry Kyle, I have no clue.
Barry
I watched all that and didn't get to see it in the water. Bummer.
Sorry about that!
Great job Barry, what are those fruit trees you have, hard to make out?
Thanks Robin! We have one satsuma tree (bush?) that produces a good crop every other year. This is it's year to shine. Lots of big sweet fruit.
Barry
@@barrylukebuilds7894 though it might be, do love those.
How do you thicken epoxy?
Typically by adding filler. Lots of types and lots of brands. Check out West Marine or Total Boat for some options.
