- The production version (not just a prototype) of the Pack KeepAlive board is done and will soon be available for sale on the GBFans For Sale pages www.gbfans.com/forum/viewtopi... and also at my eBay store www.ebay.com/str/ghostlab42 . eBay listing for KeepAlive kits: www.ebay.com/itm/195745928732
These boards can operate separately, or combined. And when combined they will enable you to control an e-cig smoke kit directly from the wand without any additional wires between the wand and the pack.
Quick description of the KeepAlive kits:
* The Wand KeepAlive kit allows the wand to stay on indefinitely.
* The Wand KeepAlive kit can also keep your Hasbro pack from shutting down when they are connected.
* The Pack KeepAlive kit allows your pack to stay on indefinitely with or without a wand but only when the red power switch is in the ON position.
The Pack KeepAlive board no longer supports two power sources and needs to be ordered to support either the 4x D-Cell batteries (6V) or a 12V rechargeable battery . Either board will not work with the other power source. and the 6V version looses the ability to bypass the Pack's 5 minute off timer that removes power from the wand after 5 minutes of the pack being off. **sigh**
The 12V Pack KeepAlive's power supply is a switching voltage regulator so is very efficiently using the 12V source.
The Vent Relay, Vent Strobe light, e-cig smoke kit or the batteries, etc. are not included in the KeepAlive kits. The kits do contain the needed cables, connectors and mounting accessories to be able to use the kits without any additional items.

I'm definitely in for both a pack and wand board!!
Day 1 buy for me! The wand keep alive board has been a great fix for the time out, but all the extra features with the two together is just spectacular. Fantastic work as always!
The Venting feature does require the latest Wand KeepAlive board. The original pack Keep Alive kit that has the extra connectors (actually a Spengler Link board) will work fine, but does not communicate with the pack so the pack does not know there is wand keep alive board in the wand and will also try hard to keep the pack alive. The main feature lost by having the original Keep Alive (link) board is the venting support.
The new Wand KeepAlive board will also allow the wand to continue running even if the rumble motor is running and also power the wand back on automatically when you fire long enough to overheat the wand and it shuts down.
If you decide to also get the new Wand Keep Alive board, it has the same mounting bracket, mounting holes and connection cable as the original version. You only need to move the solder attachment locations of the two yellow wires on the connection cable: it now use the top knob position signals instead of the speaker signals.
This is absolutely fantastic!! Thank you for all your hard work making this happen. I'll be getting this as soon as its available!
Do you have a recommendation for the e-cig to get maximum vent smoke?
I wish... haven't purchased any e-cig kits for this pack yet. This Pack KeepAlive uses the same vent relay as is used with the Spirit pack lights and the GBFans electronics, so hopefully the Ghostheads that are making the smoke kits for those packs will come up with something for the Hasbro pack also!
@@ghostlab42 sweet!! Thanks again!!
Hi mate. In the UK and really interested in getting this for my pack. Interested in the smoke vent as well. Can you recommend where I can get that as well and were to find out how to connect it all up once all purchased? Amazing work!
They will be available on eBay tomorrow. This should allow international shipments, but put both in your cart before you pay because eBay does not allow combined shipping for separately paid orders.
There will be a link to the Wand KeepAlive instructions and there is a link to the Vent relay instructions in the eBay listings. I will write up the Pack KeepAlive instructions this weekend.
I’m so ready!!!! How did you manually vent?
With the pack red switch in the on position and the wand powered on but no rumble motor going (cannot fire), the Ear pushbutton was not being used for anything. With the vent light switch (top toggle switch ) in the up position, the bar graph will light up and then prressing the Orange Ear pushbutton will cause the vent sequence to occur.
If the vent light toggle is in the down position and you press the Orange ear button, a short strobe will be output on the vent LED. Just for some future use, nothing is defined for that yet and the wand and pack operation are not affected.
Where did you get that strobe LED? I was thinking about just using a strobe in my vent instead of actual smoke but I haven't been able to find any until I just saw yours.
The cable and LED come with the Spirit Pack Lights, or GBFans powercell and cyclotron light kit.
The vent connector (3 pins) has a current limiting resistor, so most any 2.5 to 3.5V LED that can handle 20mA would work when connected to the board.
This will be in the documentation, but I am still working on that!
I saw your prototype board does this, but does the production version of the Pack KeepAlive board also remove the 5 minute window for the wand to power on the pack after being turned off?
Yes. The Pack KeepAlive bypasses the 5 minute off timer and provides power to the wand so it can start up the pack for as long as the batteries allow.
Do you sell these?
I’m very interested in your keep alive mod for the Wand only. I just have one question… if I have to keep alive mob in my wand and I have a “activated” Will the humming from the wand continue even after the 15 second time window??? I know this is a keep life mod… BUT the ones I have seen made the wand automatically “fire” after 15 sec. Sorry if I worded it a little funny.. I’d be more than happy to clear it up.
I do need to upload a new video for the wand KeepAlive since it behaves a bit differently than what I showed with the prototype.
If you activate the wand (rumble motor running) there is no firing of the wand to keep it alive, the wand just rumbles along forever...
Once you do fire long enough that it overheats and shuts down, the wand waits a few seconds and then powers back up automatically - you do not have to do anything for this to happen! To fire again you will need to toggle the activate switch since the rumble motor is not running after the wand automatically powers back up.
mine arrived yesterday was 2 sided tape suposed to be included or am i mistaken? and you mention a keep alive in the wand do i need one in it too? Also do i have to do soldering with this cause i dont have that kind of equipment or space.
The Wand KeepAlive comes with a mounting bracket and requires soldering. The Pack KeepAlive comes with the two sided tape and the kit does NOT require any soldering.
@@ghostlab42 i think mayve a step by step how to vid is in order
@@leonardtolman2014 I do have the installation instructions with lots of pictures:

They will be updated as I get feedback or things change, so the rev number may increment.
@@ghostlab42 so wait are you say theres 2 differnt ones?
@@leonardtolman2014 Not the original plan, but I have not figured out a good fix to get the D-Cell boards working so now I offer the Pack KeepAlive as a 12V version only (and probably will offer a D-Cell (6V)) version when I get that solid.
Will the production pack keep alive board also keep the wand on indefinitely aswell? Or do I need both boards? Thanks!!
Unfortunately no. The wand board can keep both the wand and pack alive, but the pack board can only keep the pack alive.
Thanks Doug! I would get just the wand board but I want the option for the 12v battery pack hook up! So both it is!
Is the correct wand keep alive kit the one that is currently in stock on your eBay store now?
@@anych19 See the link in the video description. Currently out of stock, but I keep working on more...
If the listing say "Not for Hasbro Pack" then it is the older version that is designed for standalone use only.
Hi Doug, any idea when this will be available for sale?
This week!
Can you recommend a rechargeable battery to use with this?
I believe this is supposed to be able to connect to the GBfans Blue Brick, but don't quote me on that.
Like Ecto said - "GBfans Blue Brick, but don't quote me on that" 8-)
I use generic blue brick 9800mAH batteries. Make sure they have a power switch and a charger.
Many use Talentcell batteries. Just get as large a mAH rating as you can afford, can fit and are willing to carry around.
I also like to have 2 of them so I can quickly swap and put the dead battery on the charger.
i tried to put in the pack keep alive kit but the pack wouldnt turn on nor after i took it back out any ideas?
EDIT put in new batteries nothing works not even the wand.
If the pack does not turn on, it may not allow the wand to turn on.
The pack provides power to the wand, so try the wand on just batteries (not connected to the pack).
Main thing to check is that the wire cable connections are correct and secure.
If the Red power switch is not connected or working, nothing may turn on. If you have a voltmeter you can check and make sure voltage is at least getting to the board.
@@ghostlab42 used a volt meter got 6 from the batteries but less than 1 on evrything else
Are you using the 6V version of the Pack KeepAlive board? May be easier to work through this via email. (doug@ghostlab42.com) Send a picture of the board and also show the cabling so I can see if there is anything obvious. @@leonardtolman2014
