Very nice belt

I had that same problem with my splitter cutting thinner in some areas. It would actually cut the leather in to. This happened many times before I found it. I looked it over & over & the roller was bowed a bit in the center & that is what was causing that on mine.
Every leather shop needs a good SHARP leather splitter. Bruce you have got some oldies and goodies they don't make them like that any more
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Mr.Bruce I always enjoy your videos and learn from them...mind explaining the use of the bisonnette edger? What would be more useful bisonnette or western turned up edger.
Thanks for sharing...old timer Craig
I prefer the Western Edger size number 1 and have a Weaver tight corner edger I use sometimes on real soft leather.
Awesome belt Bruce. What are the weights of the tooled side and the back side? I have been struggling to find the right balance.
7 to 8 ounce on top and 3 1/2 to 4 ounce lining leather. Thanks for asking!
Thank you Bruce. That small piece of info will definatly help keep me on the right track.
What size leather would you recommend for a belt, without adding a layer? 8/9 oz, 10/11 oz, 11/12 oz?
10/11 ounce works real good for me.
@@cheaneysaddles Thx Love your vlogs.
Goodnight
What size needle and thread do you use for the belts?
if you can help me with this question please
I use a size 200 needle and white polyester thread size 346.
Thanks sir
for belts what kind of dye would you recommend oil or water dye
I like Fiebing's Oil Dye medium brown or USMC Black
Thanks
I am lining a nile crocodile belt and do not want to groove the opposite side in case if I punch my stitching chisel wrong. Should I use the swivel knife to cut a groove on the croc side? I noticed on a scrap piece the stitch groover doesn't bite into the croc very much if at all. I've never done this and could really use some help. HELP? aLSO SHOULD i STITCH AROUND THE BELT HOLES TO MAKE CERTAIN THEy NEVER SEPARATE? I'm using 0.8mm ritza tiger thread in brown.
Those croc hides are so thin I don't think I would put a stitch groove on it. Should be okay to stitch around the belt holes.
@@cheaneysaddles This hide is over 2mm thick and it is tougher than leather. I just want to hand sew a straight line, I guess I'll groove the backing leather and hope I keep it straight.
I have a question that I think you can answer. I am making a western style belt out of harness leather and it is 8 oz. I want to add a piece on the back of black chrome tanned and is it ok to do that without a problem?
That will work just fine.
👍😉
Thank You!
What oz leather do You start with and what do You end up with ?
Started with lightweight saddle skirting and pulled it down to 10 ounce which works good for tooling belts.
Bruce Cheaney Thanks again for the Advice.
Who makes that handheld belt slitter?
I found that one on Ebay and cleaned it up it is a C.S. Osborne.
Thank you Bruce!
