    I have been bending leather for about six years and been working hard to make my stitching as perfect as I can get it. This belt is very understated but resembles an artisan working very hard to provide his customer with the best. Well done.

    It's easy to tell from watching from his sure, even, measured movements as well from his well-worn tools and hands that this is handcraft practiced over a lifetime. I would have no difficulty believing that everything that he has made is still in use. Thanks.

    Hi Harry, just awaiting my veg tan red leather belt blank but I cant find a saddlers oval punch. I think its 3mm for the buckle tongue. I assume its the same size as the round punch, and the same size as the buckle tongue.
    I intend to lightly dye the edge and burnish, hope this works as I don't want to buy a whole bottle of Edgecote!

    Any one of you that think what he just did is easy!! It's not. I hand stich my gun belts and holsters. I can't afford a stitching machine (2,000--3,000 $) Your hands and arms get tired real fast. When you have a 50 inch belt stitching it requires 100 inch's of sewing. This is a great video... Thanks'. Crossdrawjohn. Arizona.

    I bought a whole new set of Osborne strap end punches thinking it would make things easier & faster. I have just gone back to cutting the straps like you are. These punches were not made straight & never cut straight. Wasted money in my book. Sometimes the old way is best.
    Great job on your videos.

    Hi, very well done. I have a question for you. I am trying to stitch a belt that I made, but I don’t know how to fiddle with the thread. My belt is 1,20 m long, that’s 2,40 around and since the leather is rather thick I have cut 9,60 m of thread. Then I don’t know how to manage such a length on the pony !!! I get knots all over ! How do you manage that in order to saddle stitch one only thread all around your belt ?

    • @agarfrance9272
      @agarfrance9272  Před 6 lety +2

      Hi there. Good question but 9.6 meters of thread is way too long to try and use. I never try to do an entire belt with one piece of thread, it's too unmanageable. I usually use a piece about the length of my two outstretched arms which is about 2 m. As I run out of thread I simply splice it. Here's a good video showing how to splice.
      czcams.com/video/Q2lDExF5NbE/video.html
      Also if you're going to do a lot of stitching I recommend you buy the book "The Art of Hand Sewing Leather" by Al Stohlman.

  • @Lawman212
    @Lawman212 Před 6 lety

    Lovely work. I noticed that the stitching often is passing through only one thickness of leather. Is the stitching largely decorative at that point, or does it stabilize the edge to prevent stretching over the long term?

    • @agarfrance9272
      @agarfrance9272  Před 6 lety +1

      It might help with stretching a bit but mostly I used it because I liked the decorative effect.
