  • It is that time of year, RED OCTOBER when the redfish start schooling up in Pine Island Sound/Charlotte Harbor. If you know where they are it is LOADS of fun....if not can be lustrating finding them.
I was fortunate enough to stumble on a school and pulled a 31" red out of the school.
I ran my Robalo 226 Cayman out of Bokeelia, Lavenders Landing Boat ramp across Charlotte harbor to Turtle bay where I got all the snook and trout on the out side bars in 1-3 feet of water. The little red was inside Turtle bay on the oyster bars.
I got the big red after I stopped at a flat on the way back to the boat ramp.
In the morning I was throwing Salt Strong's Moonwalker Top water lure, very similar to the Heddon Super Spook Jr., after the sun came up I switched to Salt Strong's 5' Jerk shad in the Slam Shady (white) color on a 4/0 Hoss Helix 1/8 oz weighted hook.

I absolutely love the Robalo Cayman, don't know if I will ever switch, the fishability and also being family friendly is awesome. Add to that she floats in 12 inches being 22' is a huge plus as I fish alot of area that is very shallow. One day I will up grade to the 246, 24' bay boat that still drafts 12 inches....cant beat em in my eyes. My only complaint, if you can call it that is I wish I had the 250, not for top end speed but a better hole shot.

Sir love your enthusiasm, however posting actual physical locations will only ensure they are covered up with boats pressuring an already pressured fishery….plus adds zero value unless your a spot moocher….giving away stuff for free, people don’t respect it, let them earn their locations.

I do understand you point, however most of the "spots" I fish aren't any secret. I use to be a "spot" fisherman until I got to understand how tides, wind, water temps ect. affect where the fish will be. I have been back to spots where one day it was a slammer and the very next day NADA. If you don't know how to "read" the water spots will only get you so far and probably frustrated. I got a lot of help when I started, If I can help someone else get on the fish, well that is a bonus for me.
