When we got invited to watch the first Toyota Cup they have used the Rotas on all cars... When the race went on for like 20min one car had suffered from a blown tire... The heck we were shocked he ran those rims on the tarmac for 4 laps without any tires on them! I gotta say I think I'm a believer.

To drop my two cents like an incontinent vending machine,
Rota, sooner or later, was bound to happen.
If a manufacturer loke Volk or Work makes a nice wheel, especially a racing wheel, there will inevitably be people that will want to get one without actually needing the performance it delivers or caring about the big, famous or high-end brand, and most importantly, lacking the green to back up a four-digit purchase.
See stock-ish Miatas, or even EGs, rolling Grid-Vs.
It's just stupid to think someone who's spent 3k on his car will pay as much for wheels if only he's not offered a cheaper option.
And if that demand is going to be met by offer (as it always happens everywhere), I'd rather have it be by a manufacturer that actually bothers testing their wheels, works with actual car manufacturers, is trusted and supported by people like Tsuchiya, and very much importantly (something often overlooked) caring about the customer (meaning they actually offer a warranty and will replace your wheels free of charge. Look for another "fake wheels" manufacturer that does that).
Is it unfair to, if not outright copy those wheels, certainly aim to sell them at those who were interested in them? That's on you.
But it was always gonna happen.
And personally I'd rather have law law to be too loose than too strict.
But it was gonna happen anyway, and Rota is pretty much as good as a manufacturer like this could ever get.
Whether you like it or less, cheers to all our broke buddies riding safe thanks to Rota.

I personally don't mind Rota 'knocking off' other wheels because I couldn't get RS Watanabe in the offset I need in 17x8 R types. I do think too many wheel companies are doing 'me too' designs these days... all the more reason to push for my own very unique wheels to get to market somehow. Anyway... eye-opening video on Rotas... thanks!

Rotas been pretty good in my book. They aren't the real thing but they do the job. Yeah its a company that steals designs from other companies but you can only do a 6 spoke rims so many different ways before you get the same look. Just look at CCW, some of their rims look like BBS and other wheel manufacture's rims. When it comes down to it, its what you can afford, and if you can afford to run rotas or run BBS, Welds, Works, etc then more power to you.

I had Rota Subzero wheels on a Mazda because it was a copy of Racing Harts used in the World Speed Challenge cars run by Tripoint Engineering. They held up well for 6 years until I hit a massive pothole at highway speeds. I also had a very aggressive wheel cleaner that ate through the clear coat. The factory wheel would probably have fared better against the pothole but I feel like it's true for most aftermarket aluminum wheels. But even with a custom center bore to fit the Mazda hub the price and quality couldn't be beat.

Rota D154 user here. I drive a Fiesta hatch in the Philippines. Anyone who has driven in the Philippines know how horrible the potholes are. Unfortunately I ran into one and cracked the front right of the knock off wheel that came installed when I originally bought the car. Next day, went to my favorite tire place and got myself a new set of 16s D154 and Hankook tires. In the Philippines though they go for about $800 for 16s, more if you go direct to Rota.. That bit confused me, they were more expensive from the manufacturer than their reseller.

This sounds like a debate between designer hand bags vs. knock-offs (I don't mean wheels). It makes my man parts want to shrink up just listening to some people argue over the "real deal" vs. bang-for-the-buck. If the wheels look good and meet your daily needs, who GaS? Why waste the money unless the lower weight of the originals are what is most important for your track time. Seriously, that concern applies to maybe 0.001% of the population winning races somewhere. I drove on Rota G-force (gunmetal grey) daily for 9 years and tracked the car at Putnam Park, too. Had 0 issues with potholes or spirited driving. They were great looking wheels, just like the Advans they copied. Worth every penny, and the rest of the pennies I spent on my HPFP and a proper tune for my Mazdaspeed3. But hey, maybe I'm just not "street" enough to appreciate the design bags holding my tires to the hub...

Rota bridged a gap by bringing lighter weight performance in designs that one could say were a “homage” to their original counterparts. The OG slipstream was a take off the regamaster but was 1/3 - 1/4 the price. Weight different between the two? Maybe 2 lbs on 15”.
Rota allowed the budget enthusiast to keep on and enjoy their hobby. Fresh shoes could be had for $600 which looked like those TE37s at $400 each.
I would argue that rota allowed the new age, modified car culture to proliferate and grow. The modification options for my frs far outweigh what was available for my MR2 back in the day. Screw the haters; thanks to rota, thanks to Honda, thanks to the game changers that have paved the way for companies like fitment industries.

Abused the living shit out of the wheels over a long period of time but it finally started to fail when i hit a bump at like 60-70km/h bombimg a back road.
The rims after a few days developed a crack (which i only started to notice when my tpms told me i was losing about 1-2 psi a day) i honestly thought a rim crack would have just leaked all the air out.
Tl:dr they are pretty decent wheels and would run them probably on a daily. But boy were they heavy.

Yeah, they make sorta replicas...but at least they produce a handful of bolt patterns (PCD) for a specific wheel, unlike other wheel manufacturers.

Been running Rota Boost's 16x7's for about seven years. Damned good looking and very strong, also saved nearly 48 lbs. of unsprung weight by switching over to Falken 615k tires and these Rota wheels!

I bought a bugeye WRX as a project car about eighteen months ago. Came with a set of Rota wheels on it ... 'Gravel' model, I think. Anyway, I left the wheels on it because they looked pretty good, figured I'd replace them when I need to. Still going strong, still look good. Don't understand all the anti-Rota sentiment.

Bought my WRX and it came with a set of Rotas on it. Doesnt bother me at all. As long as they look good and hold up and drop a few lbs of unsprung weight... I doubt 95% of the people who mock people on "reps" aint on real wheels either. Not to mention, "real wheels" is such a misnomer.

In the Philippines, there’s a saying: “Gaya Gaya Puto Maya!” It generally means “copycat”. So don’t be surprised when things coming from that country are imitations of the original yet they can’t come up with their own. Just saying from experience living there.
