This is the 2024 Porsche 911 S/T, and it may just be the perfect 911. Combining the performance of the the GT3 RS with the subtlety and luxury of the GT3 Touring, the S/T checks all the boxes... if you can afford it. Today I'm reviewing this Porsche 911 S/T and I'll show you the many quirks and features. I'm also going to get behind the wheel and show you what it's like to drive.

The countach was designed to be absurd from the start, the 911 was not. They have 2 completely different ethos's. Putting all those angular bits and the wing and the air scoops on a round, sculpted design does kinda look weird.

Lmao most new Porsche buyers are worried about the MSRP and resale value now. A base 911 is boring to the BringATrailor crowd, so that doesn't work anymore.
My base has some options. Most May think it’s lame. I friggin love it
Some sources will tell you that only 2 identical 911s are produced each year. I watched a documentary about the 911 where they went to the factory. If I recall, due to the customizability only 2 in 40,000 are the exact same. But now I'm starting to sound like a Corvette guy...
A base 911 with no options except for a non-grayscale color.
I own a Focus ST, which now puts it in the same category as the 911 ST. I now own a supercar, nice.
I have the Focus RS which is the same as the 911 GT2-RS too.

I settled for an ST, but eventually moved on. I now have a 996 weekend car, but my daily is an old Lexus. Someday I'm buying the Nitrous blue RS I've always wanted.

It is a good spec, i wish the wheels were silver though.

Probably because, as great of a 911 it is, it is still a 911 for Ferarri or Lamborghini money
I used to be a Porsche hater, and then they became the only super car brand still making NA engines with manual transmissions. (I'm not including Gordon Murray's brand, but bless him for doing what he does.)
Porsche was considering dropping the manual for the 992 but the US market demanded that the manual stay. The 911 has one of the highest manual take rates of any car. The PDK is a fine transmission but there's nothing like rowing your own gears.

What irks me is that there is clearly a demand for manuals, and yet almost all manufacturers choose to drop it.

I love a manual…it saddens me how many manufacturers have eliminated them. I really appreciate Porsche continuing to offer a stick!
Just be proud that me and my fellow gen zers’ are doing what we can to bring back the manual. I’m from the US and my first car that I did my drivers test on and drove for years after was a manual

It's true on the pricing, had a dealer reach out to me with an allocation for one. I was willing to spend $75,000 over sticker as long as it was a custom spec. They wanted $125,000 over sticker and I had NO decision on what the spec was. LOL i used to enjoy Porsche dealership experience. Now, its a racket. Basically the dodge of the super car world

Have you noticed that this is a reminiscence of an old model? Porsche in the 70s was long before Singer
The reason a lot of ultra light sports cars do have cruise control is that literally the only cost of installing it is 50 cent switch and a foot long of additional wire. Probably it would have cost more to develop a car without a cruise control as you would have to - at the very least - make different steering column panel, without the cutout for the switch.
Everything is computerized now, there's no cruise control module sitting on top of the throttle body with its own throttle cable any more. In the case of this 911, it shares the steering wheel and wiring harness with more daily-driver oriented 911s so everything's already there. The ounce that would be saved isn't worth it.
Also, if you're american, driver helps are mandatory in EU now so it's not even a choiche anymore...

That is really cheezy... Why would Porsche put "icons of cool" on the car? That sounds like something a marketing team made in a board room.
Somebody ordered it that way, I believe it's part of the $20K Heritage Design package. Normal puddle projectors that say "Porsche" are a bargain at $160. Everything is bespoke when you order a Porsche, it's one of the best things about it.
Maybe it's a German-English thing. The sense of what sounds cool and right in English is very warped in German ears...

Heard the base 911 is going NA engine in 992.2, if offered in manual, yah maybe not the same power, but the feel would get very close for fraction of the cost of this… hoping / dreaming

Porsche won't let anyone sell these cars within the first year of ownership, you have to lease them through Porsche. So once they become available, it will 100% double in value like the 911R did back when it was new. The 911R's now cost $400,000 - $600,000, so I'd assume that these will easily cost that much if not more.
Yeah I think they will end up being more, a lot more. Maybe like $2M in 5 to 10 years

I saw one by the house of a Porsche racing driver, but sadly it did not feature the number on the door. Looked kinda empty and at first I thought it was a GT3 touring. I get Doug hates liveries, but the number does make the car look more special

Did you get it with the stupid door projection thing that is on Doug's test car? Also, even if you didn't get it, can you let me know (to satisfy my curiosity) if it's possible to get the door projection changed to some custom message, or at least just some less cringe-y variants of the Porsche/911 logo?

Porsche is the type of company to take their same gt car, add a sticker to it and charge an arm and a leg for it
I have a Carrera T with the same lightweight package features - just with a 3.0 turbo 6 and 7 speeds instead of 6 speeds. Sounds great too. But of course I'd love a 911 S/T.
Single mass clutches are no joke. That thing should be able to rev up as fast as a Carrera GT
It is always a pleasure to read statements like yours. You may be allowed to drive a car and you may have managed a speed of 80 on a highway, but you really have no idea about technological challenges and solutions in automotive engineering.
My Subaru Outback has a 6 speed manual so I basically own a 911 S/T
You may want to weld rear doors to be even closer
You also have an engine and seats too so that’s another similarity. I reckon you could sell your Subaru for a similar price given these facts.

OH MY GOD this is THE 911 S/T the greatest, most unbelievable 911 ever, the best sports car currently on sale and my most desired car ever. This is just the ultimate sports car.
Sure, you can have your RSes for track use and all of that, but having all of the magic from the GT3 RS and being able to exploit it everywhere is JUST THE MOST WONDERFUL THING EVER 🔥🔥🔥
(And yes, as you can tell, I may like the 911 R and it's successor, the S/T just a little bit.)

Ditch the big 63 decal (but keep the Porsche script along the bottom) and it is literally the perfect 911. I’ve never been a huge fan of how the GT3 RS looks, but the 911 ST…I’m drooling. I really hope I can afford one within the next decade.

The “63” door logo for me appears to be reminiscent of the “53” on the side of Herbie the LoveBug, and with Porsche and VW being so related, it makes sense!
Subtle? That giant number looks ridiculous.
I don't like the number either, but believe me, they are probably ordered for 30 to 40% of all orders. There are people who even want to stand out in Porsche circles.
I feel like Porsche is losing their luster. How many “track focused, weight reduced, limited edition” coupes can they make? Fantastic machines, but cmon. They’re like McLaren.

cruise control doesn't weigh much when you have drive by wire throttle. it's a plastic stick and a couple buttons.

The interior contrast of lightweight and luxury touches have a hint of Singer feel although not as special but I really do like this a lot especially those seats and that middle insert.

Glad they incorporated sporty and luxury for the high-end distinction. It really presents a balance of form and function. Of all the iterations of 992 this one shouts to the discernment of the elite clientele. Basically, for the money they've made a penultimate driver's and collectors model. Great review Doug! Waaay outta my range, but bravo to Porsche for refining and restoring the classic 911S/T ❤

I suspect at least a few will be equipped with the racing numbers because this car will be bought by the car investor types. This reminds me of the 911 sport classic 997 from 2010. Yes, I think the number is tacky but honestly, I kind of like the Porsche script on the doors so if I was given the option to remove the number but not the script that's how I would spec it but I of course can't afford this car anyhow.

Very cool, it's up, able to be configured now so I built one. I started with the $4,820 Ruby star nero exterior, I wanted clean and subtle, so I didn't get the roundel and number! I went with the full bucket seats and the heritage design interior in black/classic cognic, I had to get the $23,220, heritage design package. I also chose lightweight wheels in silver. The chrono package for $350 and USB type C charger for $48, and $18k for the chronograph design piece. All in, $415,880.

He reviewed the base 992 911 when it came out and has been working his way up through the trims as Porsche releases them.

I absolutely love that brown leather interior, and the fact that it’s still the lightest 911 with all that leather. One thing I don’t get though is the roll cage, considering that this is not supposed to be a track car.
Great review! All 1,963 of these Porsche 911 S/T’s have been locked in for their 1 year “Lease” to the Porsche world VIP affluent. I would be perfectly happy with the 911 Carrera T, S or GTS reality.
