  • Filth originated in East Bay, California playing hardcore punk with a bit of a anarcho and crust vibe. Years active date from 1989-1991, 2010 A must have for hardcore punk listeners. "Hate" is personally my favorite song. Enjoy the discography.

    I’m 21 now. I found this band when I was 13 through the AFI cover of Today’s Lesson. To this day, is still the best punk band ever in my opinion. When I think of punk I think of Filth. Chaotic, grimy, “Fuck You” attitudes, and nobody knows who the fuck they are. REAL PUNK! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

    i remember i went to miami to see filth way back when i was in highschool. We piled into my friends van and drove the hour and a half to miami only to find out the show had been canceled so we r walking around in Miami near downtown when a carload of punks pulls up at a light we were waiting to cross the street they asked what we were doing where were we from yada yada so we tell them and they say yeah they were supposed to go also and found out about the cancellation the same way we did then they tell us they found out the ramones were playing not far from where we were at so we went to that show instead. That night was the first time i ate acid too. Man i had a blast back then at shows and still do to this day minus the acid lol doesn't agree with my brain much anymore. I finally got to see filth at gilman st in Berkeley a couple years later. These guys were amazing and the bands that these guys were in after filth were pretty amazing too. I never got to see Dead and Gone but fuck that band was awesome. I still get goosebumps when i listen to the Dead and Gone TV Baby LP. If you havent heard Dead and Gone check em out. You wont be disappointed.

    In the 90's Punk HC bands were much better than now, big and strong scene in every way, we went to Punk HC in the 80's but lived in the 90's, for us and that terrible war in Yugoslavia did not stop the DIY scene, in the 90's we had the strongest Anarcho Punk scene , from all sides of the warring republics we maintained contacts and did DIY concerts and recorded albums, the strongest project was Through the Walls of Nationalism and War released 96(Preko Zidova Nacionalizma i Ratova), my warm recommendation to everyone to listen ...

      Afi and filth knew each other. I dont know how good of friends any of them were but both bands had members that youd see hanging out on telegraph ave all the time back in the later 90s. I used to see davey all the time. Never cared for afi but davey was a chill dude. Plus when afi first came out they tried to sell themselves as "antioch hardcore". They were from antioch but def not hardcore. Kinda like rancids lame attempt to be punk. Unlike rancid tho, afi were decent dudes. Rancid were posers from day one. I saw davey play the drums for cro mags in 2010 or something like that. Was pretty surprised. He did a great job.

    • @AzazelZaphorOmega
      @AzazelZaphorOmega Před 5 lety +10

      Yeah...I saw the movie a few days ago...I've known about the story since 2005, been over dozens of official old newspaper reports and a bunch of tribute pages from the super old school sits like tripod and angel fire. That being said, I was fairly well acquainted with the story and a lot of the details/circumstances involved. Man, it's one thing to read up on a thing and another to see such a brutal, honest and utterly unhesitant reenactment like that. That being said, I'm still shaken by the images.
      In truth, I was in a bad situation similar to what happened. Obviously not as bad since, I thankfully with the utmost humility, I'm still alive.
      But, like Brian, I lived in a small town in Texas (I live in Austin now). I was 16 at the time. There was a huge cultural divide between my friends and I when compared to the popular jocks. It seems stereotypical now, but we were goth kids with the big Tripp pants into hardcore, metal core and all the stuff coming out during that time plus 90s industrial. To make a very long story short, there had been a lot of shit talking on both sides and a number of escalating incidents including a brawl between the 4 of us vs. like 11 of them in front of a one-film a week movie theater/hotel and across the street from small bank. Then, about five or six months later, I was assaulted by about 8 or 9 of the same guys. It involved the fact that I'd gotten a mohawk (that seems random, but I just want done at the time and that's what makes this so weird, like I said uncanny - after everything that's happened, I couldn't tell why I even wanted it now) - my friends had cut my hair a few days earlier for my birthday...The assault itself happened on the last day of school. Two of my friends (they were twin brothers) lived two blocks away. We'd just gotten up to their house when a big red pick up rolls up. The 9 jocks jump out, one of them with scissors, and they start pummeling me to the ground, pounding me in my head and kicking the shit out of me. My friends went inside to get help and find weapons, no they did not run away. Meanwhile their step dad got on to the porch with a gun and starts yelling at them. In the midst of this, I break out of the group (after being nicked in the head with the scissors) and climb through their car to get to the keys to keep them from running away from the scene. I get pushed out and I end up on the driver's side a say arm gets slammed in the door an dated trick starts to lease. When I lose my grip, I fly off the truck and my head slams onto the pavement as does my hand, which winds up needing stitches. The EMS showed up, took pictures. The police questioned everyone involved. My mom talked to a lawyer, but we weren't really given sufficient representation due to somehow missing out on a date to testify against them. Ultimately, the kids involved had t do a limited series of stupid group therapy crap. yen that, nothing else happened to them for this. I went to counseling too and that was about it.
      That very summer, I heard about Brian Deneke's story from an airing of A&E's City Confidential episode on the tragedy. Hearing the details and seeing the uncanny way they sort of resealed my own circumstances sorta rattled me. I immediately pounced on it, looking up as many details as I can about the subject as I can. Hence, why I know so much about the case. Its funny, because it keeps popping up every so often. I remember wanting to go to one of the I guess benefit/violence awareness concerts back in 2007 when I heard they were paying tribute to Brian at the tenth anniversary of when it happened. I've even seen the Manson "Blame Speech" a number of times as well and was unpriced to hear him bring it up since it was tragic, yet low key due to Columbine and 9/11 in the following years. Then, like I said, I just now got around to seeing the film reenactment. I do sincerely feel like it was an honest film. Except for that Cody Cates shit...That bastard's name was Dustin Camp. They only changed it because he and his family are pussies and wouldn't let the filmmakers secure the rights to make the movie without changing his name.
      TL:DR - I've been following the Brian Deneke story for a long time and it resonates with me as both it and the movie really hit close to home for me.

    I remember a skinhead friend of mine got me into these guys. When i first heard it it was the early 90's. I was like "just sounds like screaming". My friend was like "no no listen closer. Dude is fucking pissed.". I listened to it more and got what he was saying. The music is punk as fuck and the vocals are truly fucking pissed. Was in line at an exploited show years later at the stone(massacre tour)and ended up striking up a conversation with some dude in line. Turned out he was the guitarist for filth(didnt know that at the time). There was shitloads of nazis skins at that show (to watties delight)and they beat up my friend lewis that was there cuz he was wasted and mexican. He did a stagedive and landed on one of them and they boot partied him. We tried to stop it but were outnumbered. Heard there was a big brawl after the show between the punks and nazis but i didn't see it. Filth is sick as fuck!

      I was fortunate to cross paths with him working on the line together at a restaurant. Couldn’t believe it when we started talking music and he said he was in filth. RIP Lenn!
