  • While he has had a productive and consistent career, Tobias Harris has never quite reached all-star status. Despite that, he has somehow managed to amass over $200 million in career earnings. This video goes over how he was able to get the contracts that he did.

This what happens when you give guaranteed contracts. there should only be 1 or 2 year guaranteeds and the team decides if they want to continue the contract after that or terminate if you dont keep up the work. That will fix all the thieving coasting and lazy players as well as the washouts. Imagine if you went to work and they told you they gonna give you 300k a yr for 4 years no matter what you do, and you realize even if you only work 1 hour a day and browse youtube all day and sleep at your desk and play games they cant fire you and still have to give you 300k each year for next 4 years 😂 Thats what nba players be doin

@@ADUSNthe thing is now that the incentive is there, those roles that are now filled with average players will be taken by better and better players as time goes on and younger players come in to the league. That’s why the league is always growing is terms of overall talent, back in the 80s, you only had so many guys who could “do it all”, now half the league can drop 30 on any given night, you see it all regular season, role player going off for a 36 pt game. And the contracts haven’t even been this high for this long, with the kind of money involved now, it’s not just a sport anymore, you’re gonna have fathers training their sons from age 5 and on with one goal of becoming a pro athlete in a specific sport, because the earning potential is higher than that of doctors, dentists, and lawyers

    • @mobrown1198
      @mobrown1198 Před 13 dny +2

@@MrBubblecakeback in the 80’s you only had so many guys who could do it all. Now half the league can drop 30 on any given night…” nah. The scoring easier is more indicative of the state of the game, and the rule changes, and not with overall talent.
Even players of today have said that fundamentals have been eliminated from the game.
If post all star and the playoffs should’ve taught fans… defensive physicality, and enforcing rules, makes scoring much more difficult. Even the elite players aren’t scoring with the ease they did in the regular season.
In the 80’s the talent was more condensed, less teams. Many NBA teams had comfortable 10 man rotations. Role players were often former stars, or designated 6th men who on any given night would be the best player on the court. The 80’s had some of the best 6th men and bench players in the history of the league.
It was also a GROWN man’s league. The best players stayed in school, minimum 3 years. Occasionally you would have a talented sophomore (Isiah Thomas) would enter the draft.
The narrative that the 90’s was watered down, Dan be debunked easily with a) the depth and the quality of players on NBA rosters
      B) the influx of foreign players, while it wouldn’t be as dramatic, there were very good, elite foreign players who entered the league
      c) Straight from HS to the NBA and the rise of the one and done player.
The influx of talent in the NBA in the 90’s was insane.
Fans who falsely suggest the league was watered down due to expansion, certainly didn’t understand the depth of talent on rosters in the 80’s.
Shaq, Penny, Chris Webber, the 96’ draft Iverson, Kobe,
      you had Duncan, KG, Dirk,
that’s just some of the top guys who actually changed the game.
C.Webb, Dirk, KG became the modern prototype for versatile bigs who could do everything on the court.
This modern era is a young league, much easier to score, offensively leaning. Something that the commissioner, Adam Silver has stated “the rules were changed to allow more offense, to allow smaller players, (Steph Curry) the ability to show their skills.
The league after completely banning the hand check.
Then ADDED rules ~ the gather step, freedom of movement.
Those two rules, have made it quite easy to score. All the 450 guys who are in the league can play. Ever hear of the White Mamba ? Yeah … a “bum” to fans but at one point he was still one of the best in the world, and he had his moments.
My point is, the role players aren’t better.
The rules allow for easier shots, without much resistance.
Also, the league made an emphasis on allowing offensive players to initiate contact on offense, along with the gather step and lack of carry, traveling calls, these guys can score points at will~ faster pace, less defense, easier shots = role players dropping 30 on any given night.
75% of the NBA viewing audience is outside of the NBA,
This is according to the commissioner.
Some of the top players in the NBA now, Luka, Jokic, Wemby,
they aren’t from the states. They get better teaching and often have elite size for their positions, and have team oriented skills and are very coachable…
Father’s training their sons from 5 years old (you mean like Emoni Bates dad) because their is incentive due to money.
Not to mention, all the former players who have sons, they already have a leg up….
      NBA pedigree. Genetics.
When it’s all said and done it’s only 450 players in the NBA (getting the big money)
it’s even less spots available per year for new players…. The league has roughly a 12% influx of new players every year.
The odds of a child becoming an NBA player is far lower than becoming a professional in any of the areas you named.
and it’s specialized… I mean the average height in the NBA is 6’6.5
      Genetics play a role.
Generally speaking, throughout the history of the NBA, the shorter you are, the better your skills had to be.
FTR the average height of NBA players have only increased by 1/3 of an inch since the 1960’s.
Translation ~ it’s always been difficult to make the league.
We’ve b seen a man train 3 of his sons since the age of 3 (Lavar Ball)
Got two of them to the league.
      Lavar Ball is 6’9
His wife is 6’1 and a former D-1 athlete.
Have your son be an engineer, or a doctor, lol.
It’s easier, and we need more.
Unless you are blessed with athleticism, and height, you’re already starting at a deficit.

Yeah hes an amazing player but between injuries snd just disappointment i feel he'll end up with a Patrick Ewing career. Where he's one of the best but never wins a ring staying where he is.

I know you are a toxic fanbase that ALWAYS blames someone other than the real reason you can't get out the second round. You jumped on Ben. Harden. Now it's Tobias. All the while Embiid gets a pass for being dog poop in the playoffs. Every. Single. Year.
Lol, only guy to ever get 8 turnovers in an elimination game and point to a teammate turning down a layup with 3 and a half minutes left in the game as the reason they lost. Tragic.
We'd welcome that brother Tobias with open arms. Oubre too. Maybe they want to play for a team whose best playet isn't a choker and a psychopath.

Ehhh I think this is an unfair assessment 19-20pts a game is nothing to sniff at. Let's not get crazy taking this last game as a stain on his career. Certain coaches know how to utilize him like doc rivers. I think he has some compatability issues with embiid bc he isn't a catch and shiit guy he is a rhythm guy. Maxey does well bc he is great in the pick and roll. When embiid got hurt Tobias numbers increase and he plays very well. I think that sit in the corner and wait for the ball to come isn't a role for him. I mean say what you want but he is a solid team guy just in the wrong situation of playstyle.

I followed Harris' career on the Clippers. His performance skyrocketed the year of his contract ending.
He couldn't defend and the common denominator was money related when it came to his performance.
He could have easily been a secondary All-Star. To say he wasn't with averaging 20, shooting 50% and 39%, is undercutting his statistical performance.
He's a complete dud in the playoffs, which is predominantly why he is forgotten about. He doesn't show up when needed. He does what he wants. To be frank, he's only here for the money. The media really hyped him up to be something he's not. Send him back to Orlando lol
