  • 13/5/2014 Perth: V8 Supercars champion driver Will Davison took to Barbagallo Raceway this morning to test out the track ahead of this weekend's Perth 400 ... but he left his Erebus Motorsports Mercedes-Benz supercar in the garage.
Instead, Davison got behind the wheel of a 2001 Mercedes 0405NH bus -- one of Transperth's fleet that will be used over the weekend to transport spectators to and from Barbagallo Raceway for free for the Perth 400.
Davison clocked just on two minutes 30 for his best lap around Barbagallo Raceway. With public transport included in all pre-purchased tickets to the Perth 400, he proved it really is a quick and easy way to get to the track on race weekend.
Davison has driven a lot of different vehicles in his decorated racing career, which includes a race win in Perth in 2011, but this was his first experience behind the wheel of a bus.
"This was a unique experience to drive something so heavy on a racetrack. I tried to drive it at a leisurely pace -- it's pretty harsh on suspension and I managed to clip a couple of kerbs -- I'm more used to my little race car!
"I'm doing it to promote taking public transport to the track this weekend -- it means people can have a relaxed day at the track not worrying about driving or parking," Davison said.
Pre-purchased tickets entitle spectators to free public transport on all Transperth services throughout the race weekend (16 to 18 May). Fans can catch the train to Clarkson Station on the Joondalup Line where a free shuttle bus will take them straight to the Raceway. Trains are scheduled to arrive approximately every 15 minutes throughout most of the day, visit www.transperth.wa.gov.au or call 13 62 13 for more information.
Tickets for the Perth 400 start from just $16 and are available to purchase through Ticketek at www.ticketek.com.au. Day passes, family passes, grandstand seating and Paddock Passes are all available. There will also be gate sales.

You can say what you wish about WA and Transperth, but this had me almost rolling around laughing as this is an awesome way to promote the free shuttle for the event!
