Hugh Nibley was a gift of God! There was no one like him and probably there never will be.
Thank you so much for this wonderful and truthful insight and description of his character and knowledge Brother Peterson!

Bro. Peterson. I am still waiting and praying for the return of Education Week.
This will be my 20th year. Terribly, this year I will attend alone due to my husband's unexpected passing.
I would like for you to know that your influence, teaching and impact Bill would attribute to the development of his testimony. As a hard nosed attorney he originally followed me to Ed Week to show me my error. Three years later he was baptised followed by our sealing in the Provo City Temple in 2017..
Thank you for your life long devotion, seeking and scholarship. You're a master teacher evidenced by Bill's acceptance of the great Restoration. Pls know I'll be on the front row in your classes again when Ed Week classes resume.

Oh, how this interview fascinated me! I have been a fan of Hugh Nibley for a long time, and I love hearing Professor Peterson’s stories of him. I also enjoyed Prof. Peterson’s thoughts on contributing to the kingdom at the end of the interview. I have a lot of respect for him and enjoy hearing his thoughts on any subject. I think it’s a gift, one of many that he has.

Always love hearing and learning about Hugh Nibley!
I saw a CZcams video with Hugh Nibley quite some time ago. He was in the video. He spoke for about his NDE for a few seconds. It happened when he was having surgery for a “burst appendix”………in his own words.

My whole life I have had a significant interest in this and much of my assumptions and speculation from my limited knowledge aligned with things Hugh Nibley had apparently already written about. I research ancient civilizations and our family is learning Hebrew along with my scripture study and I can’t get enough. If I could turn back time I wish I had made this my original focus of study, for now I am learning what I can from books and publications online. Amazing, thank you!

Someone I was talking with about Bro. Nibley said: "Reading Hugh Nibley is like drinking from a firehose"! Truly! His gargantuan grasp of relevant subjects could bring a variety of information into a discussion (or into his books) rather like a 50 cal. machine gun, but it was all relevant, with clarity!

Needed: All of Brother Nibley’s works made available on the principle digital platforms, such as AppleBooks and Kindle. It is delightfully worth noting that the taint of Martha’s complaint has passed from the scene, gone poof! God knows how to protect and preserve precious things. 🙏🏽

I had a class from Dr. Nibley. One day he said that he wished he had never learned Arabic, because they never wrote anything worth reading. Perhaps he was kidding. I don’t know. I sure enjoyed his wit! He was a great teacher!

There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there's perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books.

The Prophets studied their own fields before being called to serve 😊 Also, church leaders listen to experts when they have decisions to make, as they think fir themselves before asking The Lord.
By the way, President Oaks writes a foreward in this book about Nibley. 🙂

In a video on You Tube, Nibley tells a story from the Midrash about Abraham. When he tells of Abraham being promised Isaac, Nibley becomes emotional, saying: "It is a very moving story."
This touched me. I was trying to learn from the great scholar in some small way, but then I see his spiritual side. 🙂

That's ironic because President McKay was so impressed by An Approach to The Book of Mormon that he approved it over the objections of the church's lesson book committee.
Maxwell insisted that Nibley was worth reading. But you do you.

How sad that you've missed the great legacy of Hugh Nibley's unique genius. I'm sure the Presidents and Apostles would agree. Bro Nibley was simply a most unique intellect, outgoing, insightful, great humor, even inspired, as seen In his mastery of multiple languages..his deep though simple testimony is why today's great LDS scholars, such as Bro. Daniel Peterson, honor him, among many others.

Nibley wasted his abilities in the realm of Mormon apologetics. A bright mind spent in the speculative, arguments from ignorance, pandering to the church who paid him. Discredited himself in legitimate academia.
