When I was tenor we had strings on our mallets for spinning them. I like the pin stripe heads, we used them too, but sometimes black. The clear heads do sound better though. I started putting tape on our mallets in 1992 (me, squirrel, and drew). They were all chrome with white tips for the classic that year but all the other games we put red and white with black tips. Still looking good though.

What type of straps the tenor drums using?
They need to strap up on all fours for better accuracy to the drum. And tune them tenors higher so you can get the full dynamic of sound
