    Monet is actually correct. The birtish accent that we hear today was created because the rich didn't want to sound like the poor and used the accent to differentiate their status

      @@joniwatso you're missing the point. The point is that they sounded like Americans sound. There's dozens of different American accents. But the American accent most people would call hick redneck or hillbilly or southern was actually called queens speak or queens English back in the day. And that is the most accurate example of how people used to sound back in the day. Until they started adding a more British UK accent onto it. Idk which one currently would be the accurate version for that though.

    Monet is correct . The British accent now was used to act richer, upper class, royal . Originally they say it sounded kind of American southern

    AND SHE WAS RIGHT. SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
    when the british colonized north america they had what is known today as regular american accents, and the british people back home developed what is know today as british accents to seperate themselves from the british people that colonized north america.

    • @hr8290
      @hr8290 Před 2 lety +4

      Yes! The original British accent is considered to be still in some parts of Virginia right?

    • @joniwatso
      @joniwatso Před 2 lety +7

      I don’t think that’s true. They say the American accent began to diversify in the mid 1900s.

      You're right but I always find it funny how Americans refer to the British who colonised North America like those ancestors aren't closer to Americans of today than the actual English

    Kinda true. Just kinda. Not really accurate. BUT, the “southern” American accent today is closer to how the English people sounded back then than most British accents today.
