      Unpopular opinion... I love my relaxed hair. Don't miss the fairy knots, the 8H wash and detangle days, and that shrinkage... baybee, idk how yall do it. @@DontPlayWithMePlayWithYaMama but relaxed hair all in all is harder. It’s more prone to breakage so you have to take care of it just as much or even more than natural hair. Natural is way more resilient and wont break as easily. You might not want shrinkage but eventually your hair will break off and be short. Especially if your not taking good care of it.

    Girl I would just trim every three months until it's gone. If you don't want to deal with the two textures you can always wear a 8-12 week protective styles (knotless box braids or wig) and after your take down wash, deep condition, blow-dry and then trim

    • @JessicaSmith-fw3yp
      @JessicaSmith-fw3yp Před 3 lety +10

      @Trinity M I personally blowdry my natural hair every three months and have gotten no heat damage. In fact for my low porosity, fine strands heat is nessecary for me (heat with deep conditioning and a blow dry). But blowdrying my a few times a year hasn't given me heat damage. Frankly I've retained alot of length trimming on a schedule and stretching my hair hair, and protective styling have helped me retain 10 inches of hair in a year and 2 months.

    • @mjg_no8ball
      @mjg_no8ball Před 2 lety +6

      Yea I don’t have issue with heat damage because I don’t bow my hair out often. I hardly manipulate my hair unless it’s getting braided 1-2 times a year and 1-2 blow outs a year. I normally wear my afro. I wear a wig once a year as well. So I try to stick with just my fro. I use Miss Jessie’s hair products for my fro. Multicultural curls is my go to when wearing my natural hair.

      @@RachelAdina YES IT IS!!! Also each hair goes through an Anagen, catagen and telogen cycle, meaning grow, rest, shed cycle...so eventually all the hairs on your head will be replaced anyway so say for instance you cut 6" off your hair, you are cutting the hairs that have lasted the longest on your head without knowing exactly how long their growth cycle is resulting in (for some people) a stage in which their hair seems to not be gaining length...this is because those hairs were due to shed out before the varying shorter lengths will and you are cutting them before you know what their life cycle (length of time they grow before they are due to rest and shed normally 3-5 years) is. The CZcams algorithm knew I needed this video 😭 I had tailbone length relaxed hair when a stylist under-processed it. Dealing with those two textures was a struggle that only got worse when my hair became over-processed from a different stylist who was confident that she could fix it with a corrective relaxer…that she pulled through the entire length of my hair before I knew what was happening💀 I’ve been transitioning to natural for the past 2 years and it’s been a nightmare. Mine is definitely breaking off at the demarcation line. Finding a product (especially a styling product) that works for both textures has been a struggle, so I just decided to focus on the health of my natural hair. Every wash day I contemplate chopping it-this throuple relationship we got going on is getting out of hand! The best way I’ve learned to manage it is by leaving it in two-strand twists or box braids and putting the twists/braids into a bun or milkmaid braids for work. I do NOT recommended permanently straightening your hair because you run the risk of under-processing or over-processing your new growth, so you may find yourself back in the same predicament. Stylist rates are also climbing, so chemically straight hair is getting costlier to maintain.
    I think you’ll look great no matter which direction you choose, but I also know firsthand that it doesn’t feel like an easy decision to make. Anyhoo, I hear you, I understand you, and I appreciate you for making me feel seen 🥲 Best wishes with your hair journey!

The purpose was to get a professional trim because I've always trimmed my own hair. My hair has a few bone straight pieces, however my texture has loosened throughout my entire head. I had super dense/thick 4c bra strap length hair. It's so very disappointing. I've gotten past the initial regret and frustration, but that was allot of very hard work and money spent on products to get to where I was. I knew better and I did it anyway. And I finally just cut my hair about two weeks ago and it feels so thick and healthy and it’s all one texture now except for the front cause I didn’t want short bangs quite yet but I love it, so I’d say I am team cut it however the ultimate choice is yours😊

    I have a few heat damage pieces. Those pieces are bone straight or they have a wave I’m type 3c high porosity. I just used more protein, I always pre poo, u did hot oil treatments and twist outs a lot of the time, that helped my hair grow without cutting everything at once, I get trims every 3 months and that helped with the damage. Now my hair has grown out so much I have shorter and fewer heat damaged pieces, my hair grows out thicker now and healthier. Honestly keeping those ends and just gradually trimming them helps to retain the length. I haven’t used heat on my hair since last year October and my hair is flourishing. I normally don’t get heat damaged but my hair stylist looked away for 10 sec and I saw smoke. I got the heat damage where my naturally looser hair is around my face. Just use aphogee for protein, olaplex for building the bonds and you’ll see maybe you won’t even have to cut your hair. Tbh your braid out looks fine !

    honestly I don't think it looks bad at all as long as the hair is still elastic and relatively healthy I say don't cut it. Even a head full of natural hair that has never been heat styled is subject to multiple curl patterns and textures. It's just the way hair is, it isn't perfect and sometimes we can't have many different hairstyles and textures on one head 🤷🏽‍♀️ I have a friend who refuses to put that on her hair but recently she had to have it cut short due to all the damage from split ends, not wear bonnets and laxed hair maintenance. Hair is just funny like that especially tighter and kinkier textures

I incorporated egg into every wash day and saw my hair start to heal. 2 months ago i finally cut off the total straight pieces. And now my hair is better than before the heat damage. So in a way it helped. I was forced to up my hair care game. I am 1 year 2 month heat free.

    Sis, I was in these shoes last year. I literally decided to chop it all off (waist length as well) because it was so heavy on my hair like that dead weight was holding me down and making my hair look worse more and more lmao. There are no benefits in cutting in sections every few months. It also didn’t do me any justice to cut every few months either because you introduce more breakage and splitting and it will never give you the results you’re looking for. Today, all of my hair has transitioned .. I cut the bangs and top because they were already bangs that never grew for years and was super damaged. Girl, my hair has grown tremendously because of the chop including my bangs and it feels good that those stringy ends and straight ends are gone. It will grow back. It was grow back faster as well! It took a lot to cut my waist length hair to my shoulders but I’m glad i did. I wish i would’ve done it sooner

  • @RoyaltyAC
    @RoyaltyAC Před 3 lety +2

    First of all YES VOCALS! Second: Personally I would (and have in the past) gradually cut it off. I feel like when I maintained a certain length and cut my hair gradually that it went by really quickly. My ends in general look great because of the frequent trims. I’m not team relaxer it’s bad for your health and contributes to fibroids which can effect fertility. If you would like short hair than go ahead and big chop. It’s a chance to experiment with cool tapers and short styles. I’ve had shot hair so many times I’m over it but it might be fun.

    I'VE BEEN THERE! Back in 2017 I got heat damage all over! My hair was a *hot mess* : straight here, curly there, looser here, frizzy there.
    My roots and my ends were dead straight and I lost some elasticity inbetween. Also my right side was more damaged than my left so I got more breakage on that side.
    If your hair doesn't severly break off I'd say don't big chop just do trims every now and again. If you're able to retain the hair on your head without it breaking off and becoming see-through then just style it out for at least a year and *then* do a big chop; noone will notice lol, your hair still looks decent in a braidout.

    If you feel like you need to cut it then do so. However, you could try an olaplex treatment to bring the curls back. I had heat damaged my hair a few years back. I never cut it i just started deep conditioning twice a week with a balanced protein/moisturiser deep conditioner all over my head concentrating lots on those ends that were damaged and I also used a moisturising leave in for the undamaged hair and a leave in that had protein for the heat damage parts. Took about 3/4 months for it to go back to normal. Because I was washing twice a week one of those was a cowash (using a cowash not a conditioner) and deep condition and then the other a shampoo and deep condition. A big notice was the amount of moisture and health my whole head starting showing even the non heat damaged parts. I now continue to wash twice a week and have seen great growth and no further heat damage. Hope it all works out well for you ❤️❤️

  • @lauren6771

    If you wear your hair straight most of the time just continue to do what you do. Go for your normal trims and try to use less heat, stick to the 360-400 degree(F) range. I’ve gotten my hair bone straight with 340 before. Don’t chop off healthy hair because of a texture change.

  • @damedench

    If your go-to style is a wash and go, then cutting might be the option you're more inclined to go with. But, if you do hairstyles that alter your curl pattern anyway (i.e. Braidouts, twist outs), then I honestly don't see the need to cut. Do what feels best to you at the end of the day - your body, your choice!
