    The first thing I do to any bike is pro taper style oversize bars and clamps. You want that tapered design for the flex. And I’ve never bent this style bar.
    With the Tusk Universal Clamps & Chub Bar Kits at $70, it’s a no brainer.

    I thought crossbars helped reduce vibration. I’m trying to mod my 2017 YZ250 for enduro trail riding (so far I’m running an 18” rear wheel, weighted flywheel, levers, pegs etc., the usual stuff) and now I’m about to purchase a Precision Parabolic steering damper (I considered Scott’s and GPR but the PP specs and functionality is just too appealing). I was thinking about changing my standard bars to a crossbar setup (particularly the Ricky Carmichael ODI CFT RC4 because they have great reviews and apparently reduce vibration quite well), or just getting some shock and vibe bar mounts (but I’m not really sold on the idea of these yet). I’d love to hear your thoughts. Great video by the way. I’m not afraid to experiment with new bar positions/specs but now I know how to measure what I’ve got and try not to veer too far from what I’m already comfortable with.

    How short is too short for a dual sport I like the idea of having tighter bars I ride deserts and forests I don’t actually do a lot of on road riding I’ve ridden little 125s and 50s and the bar size drop hasn’t bothered me but on an XT250 I want shorter bars but I wonder if it will hinder mobility or ease of turning when I’m doing more technical stuff

Any opinions? Reed bend? Renthal rc? I like to feel on top of the bar so i normally run them at minus 1. I feel like im lacking rise. And im not sure what the yz stock bend is to judge off by them onto other bars.

    whats the straightest bars with the least amount of sweep? I used to see Malcolm Stewart run some MIKA bars that were really straight with no sweep & the bar ends were shorter like closer to the bike not so far out they looked PERFECT! Im guessing they were custom? sorta like the bars at 7:29 but for a big bike obviously

    When i was riding 80's I went through a set of 7/8" bars about once every other ride(because I bent them). When I upped my bike size to 250, 450, 500, I always ran 1 1/8" pro tapers and have never bent a bar since. The fact that I used to crash alot on 80's might play a factor too haha but I had some gnarly crashes on the big bikes too

    Can y’all please make a video on how to setup handlebars? How far back or forward to have them set and the controls as well?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 6 lety +1

      John, this is really rider preference. I wouldn't say there is a wrong or right set up. Yes, too far forward or back isn't ideal, but I would just find a bar position that feels comfortable. I always try to have my bars at the same angle as my forks. Taller riders tend to have their bars a little farther forward. As for lever placement, again, this is different for every rider. I prefer my levers to be angled down just slightly. I also have my clutch lever about as far in (toward center of the bar) as I can. This gives me good leverage and makes my clutch pull a little easier. I'd just try different set ups and find what feels best for you. Thanks for watching and hope this helps.

      Unfortunately, you're better off using mountain bike specific handlebars because modern day mountain bikes utilize either 31.8mm or 35mm clamp diameters where dirt bike handlebars use either 7/8" or 1 1/8" clamps.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety

      It really just depends how much it bothers you having your bars bent. You can certainly try to straighten them, there are some videos on CZcams showing how. Also, unless you can see clearly where the bars are bent there is a chance that your forks are just out of alignment in your triple clamps so that would be worth checking in to.

  • @oherroprease207
    @oherroprease207 Před 6 lety +7

    Handlebars are honestly the hardest items to choose on the entire dirt bike. It's all "Rider preference" but you can't make a preference when you can't try them all out. I guess you could spend a few hundred dollars buying a bunch of different kinds then picking one you like and returning the rest. Would that work with your return policy?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 6 lety +3

      *oHerroPrease* - You just wouldn't want to mount them on your bike is the only thing. The item/s must be in brand new or un-used condition. You can for sure do what you're saying and buy a couple different bends and then return the ones you don't like. The best way really is to pull them down at your local retailer and try them out. That way you don't have to buy them all and you can get a real feel for how they are going to feel while on the bike. How this helps. What handlebars are you leaning towards?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 5 měsíci

      It's actually the opposite. A handlebar with a crossbar will be more rigid and have more feedback while a handlebar without a crossbar will have more flex and absorb more vibrations. This runs true for all handlebars.

    Good information although I was hoping you would go into more depth on ergos how your height translates into choosing a handlebar....from my experience you really have to try out 5 or 6 different bars to find the right one.....it's tough call because we are all different.....getting fitted to a bike is probably best course to take.

      Those markings relate to the bar mounts to help make sure you get your handlebars centered and to give you a reference if you want to change the angle of your handlebars.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety +1

      How tall are you? It really is rider preference. But, in most cases, taller riders will go with a little taller bend so they don't feel so hunched over. You can get a taller bar rise or if you like your bars you have now, you can get handlebar risers. -Chase

    2017 yz450f was the first bike to give me arm pump and I knew it was the bars, those things were retarded. Changed to Henry/Reed Contours, set them on Reed and almost got rid of it completely. Little more sweep and they’d be perfect.

      The bar bend is all personal preference and depends on the feel that you want. But as long as the bars and risers you ordered are both either 7/8" or 1 1/8" then they'll fit on your bike just fine!
