MERAK TSECHU- RARE FOOTAGES

The Unique dance is performed only in places like Merak-sakteng in Tashigang and Lauri in Samdrupjongkhar District. The dance was introduced by well known saint Thangtong Gyalpo who is popularly known as the saint who built iron bridges in BHUTAN and Beyond in 14th century.
Today the unique intangible culture of performing arts is witnessed by hundreds of highlanders. During the Merak Festival, the herdsmen and layman from Lauri performed for two consecutive days and the locals witnessed the chaam without fail. .
Merak Festival is only festive occasion where most of the semi nomads get to respite from there daily cattle herding routine.

Aji Lamu dance is also a folk dance belonging to Monpa tribe of Arunachal Pradesh under Tawang and west Kameng district. Both the district shares border with Bhutan. No wonder the costumes are also same.
