  • One of eight Go-Arounds in a very short period of time as wind and rain from Storm NOA hits approaching Aircraft for runway 27R. This aircraft actually called an emergency and diverted to Edinburgh. It landed safely.

      Omg I would die. I was on a flight going into Miami under similar weather and we had to do a go around due to wind sheer although we didn’t get that low to the ground. It was terrifying. We actually didn’t go around because the pilot said we didn’t have enough fuel - don’t you love that. Instead we headed straight ahead to Ft. Lauderdale.

    I have flown that very Boeing 767-300 and probably have landed it at LHR. I flew for United for 29 years with the last 14 based at JFK flying the 757/767. That was definitely a legacy United plane as it has Pratt & Whitney engines while Continental planes , whom we merged with in 2010, had Roll Royce engines. I was amazed at the amount of wing flex we see in when they hit turbulence.

    Excellent flying by the flight crew. You could see the wings violently flex just before touchdown, due to the shear.

      @@hog8035 seems like an awful work place to be in if your company investigates go arounds. That’s the wrong mentality. Safety and proper procedure should be number one. If the landing becomes unstable as this video clearly indicates a proper go around is required.

    I appreciate a go around. I was once on a military flight, landing early morning in fog….10 go around and 1 hour of holding, then a safe landing and to bed. The nearest divert airport was 300km away.

      1 20yrs ago almost empty flight we were over the threshold landing in Phoenix & apprently a private jet entered the runway; never seen an airbus climb so fast!

      Landing gear does not come up instantly. Max thrust first, flaps up about halfway with a positive rate of climb. Then the gear comes up. If you pull the wheels up too soon and settled back down into the runway, it is really ugly.

    I was on that flight 😅
    On our way back up, we were hit by lightning, so probably that what was "emergency".
    However, there was nothing that affected the flight or that was announced to us on the plane, we got to know this when we landed in Edinburgh.

    I thought he was lifting the nose to let the rear wheels touch down and then I released he hit the throttles and thrusted away again very impressive to watch from this perspective but I've also been sitting as a passenger in those weather conditions. I always cross my fingers and just tighten my belt a bit. Flying from Belarus to Istanbul and then London Gatwick in just over a weeks time. Hope the weather is better than this.

      I think the PW4000 which is on this plane is the engine with the most thrust for the 767...

    It didn’t look like wind shear to me. Probably disconnected the autopilot later than usual, because of the weather, then got a bit high on the profile before a bit of a float. The pilot opted for the go-around instead of a long landing.

      Agreed - a wind shear go-around that late in the flare would be highly unusual. Warnings inhibited at that point.

    From my amateur perspective I thought the 787's and 777's handled the winds much easier than the 767's 330's or 350's. The older 737 and A320 were like kites. Perhaps the winds just favored the 787's :)

    I was watching it live! At first I thought it was down but as soon as it missed the touch down and floated a bit I knew it was going to abort.
    This aircraft diverted to Edinburgh airport whilst squawking 7700 after this go around.
