I belive the lighter was designed in 1936. When imco shut the doors in 2012, a japanese company purchased the name, tooling and machinery. They are now produced in china , and sre practically identical to the originals. Albeit superior build quality, and made out of stainless steel as opposed to the tinplate ones of old. I love these lighters, a design classic, and in my opinion superior to the zippo , one reason being the chimney that extinguishes and covers the wick ,alingside the tight filling cap on the base means far less fuel evaporation. Thanks for sharing, its a great keepsake from your dad.
