The reason people continue to say things like this, things that should stay in their heads, is because when they say it, its surprising to the person they're saying it to. Your mind goes blank when you're surprised, so people usually revert to the polite setting and just brush it off awkwardly, instead of calling them out. Once people start regularly and consistently calling out behavior like this, a lot more of these thought will stay in people's heads where they belong 😒

I am in no way saying that she is partially or fully to blame for what was said to her. To be very clear, no one should comment things like that, especially to someone's face and regardless of how well they know someone or not, and they are fully to blame for being rude. What I am attempting to point out is that psychology and social norms are very powerful in these situations and they work in the favor of people like that lady; they don't get called out for that kind of behavior, so it continues. It's a difficult cycle to break. A large number of people are living with a surprisingly low amount of self-awareness. They act according to how they've seen others act, how the society they grew up in let them act, and until someone calls them out, they will continue to act in that manner. It's the same issue as little old ladies touching a pregnant person's belly, or someone giving a parent unsolicited and inappropriate discipline advice on dealing with their misbehaving kid. I'll openly admit that I'm terrible with confrontation of any kind; I freeze and revert to politeness and avoidance like she did. And I always regret not taking action to make the other person aware that they are being inappropriate so they don't do it again to someone else.

If I remember correctly, they asked the person if they were autistic. They say they were ALLOWED TO ASK because their brother was and this person acted similarly. I’m a small gal…so to a lot of people I don’t look 38 weeks..I can’t tell you how many women have looked at me and said, “oh honey!! You don’t look anywhere near 38 weeks!! You don’t even know how good you’ve got it! You got it easy!” I just stand & nod & give a lil chuckle…in my head, I’m seething… ‘Oh yes, I’ve got it easy. So easy, high risk, newly diagnosed with epilepsy-have had 2 seizures while pregnant, cerclage removed 2 weeks ago, had 2 massive blood clots discovered on each lung 2 months ago, have been on blood thinners (Lovenox) since..in shot form bc i desperately want to breast feed, birth plan…gone! Any decisions will be made seconds before needed. Bleh!

The bump thing is true. If its a girl the bump is normally longer and wider. If its a boy its usually more round like a basket ball. This is how i get almost every gender reveal right. Hope that helps.😊

My poor sister was a receptionist at nursing home when she was pregnant with her first. Every day she would have people coming up to tell her how she looked like she was having twins. She always awkwardly said “No! Just one in there haha.” One day a woman from PT came up to her and told her how pregnant her FACE looked! And she had to stay up at that front desk and keep a smile on her face the rest of the day 💔 Let’s stop commenting on pregnant women’s bodies unless it’s to tell them how beautiful they look.

So my mom was getting a pedicure when she was super pregnant with me and the lady was talking to my mom and she asks my mom what the gender is and my mom said she didn’t know cuz she and my dad wanted to be surprised. And the lady goes, oh u have girl. U have girl and my mom is like oh how do you know and the lady goes. U ugly now. But u be pretty when baby is born. And goes on to explain that if your having a boy your pretty during pregnancy and if your having a girl your ugly 😭😭😭.

Talking about my stomach and I've always been small so I can't imagine how bigger people would feel. Like it killed me inside. I weigh 130 lb that's just disgusting. It's always women being rude and not men in my experience

People were convinced I was having a girl because I was so sick all the time and just absolutely psychotic (which, problematic we associate that with girls but anyway) but I ended up having a very large boy 😂 and needing my gallbladder out shortly after
I think people just see a pregnant woman and think it’s an opportunity to say rude things about her appearance and put it all down to the fact that “she’s pregnant”, even when those things are not affected by pregnancy
