It gets pretty warm, but there's a crystal oven near the rear of the unit, I'm told. It's really frequency stable. I've subjected mine to some long ragchews at full power, with no problems at all. It seems to be ok with its own heat. The RX is fantastic. No extra filters to buy, the DSP really pulls them out of the noise. Nice radio.

Very good vid. I had to do similar with my used 756 ProII, put it on the bench connected it to the service monitor and went at it. It seems as intuitive as the 756. If only the 756 series had the MO trim in firmware instead of touch and go with the side adjustment...

@Yavor54 No it's not the European version and I was not on 10. In fact the power level of around 60 Watts out on 20, 40, & 80 meters and that's into a 1:1 SWR presented to the radio by a Palstar tuner measured both on the Tuner's cross needle meter and an external diamond cross needle meter so I very much trust the 60 Watts out. One other observation I did note was that the power level adjustment was not linear across bands.
Hi Bob, can you adjust the freq counter, mine seems about 100 to 200 off, can you do a partial reset so you don't loose the memories...can you adjust the FM bandwidth for repeaters..outs are about 2.5 deviation...Fred in England.
Thanks for the information. I did enter the hidden menu however under the TX settings I was not able to make any alterations. There was no change with turning of the main tuning knob. I wonder if there is a lock that has to be released. Do you know if there is a toggle or what has to be done in order to modify the TX settings? The problem I am having is my 100% power out into a 1:1 SWR measures at only 60 Watts on HF. I'm wondering if this TX Adjustment could remedy that?
Hi Bob not sure if you can help me, I have an IC 7000 here, you done the Mic for me, nothing to do with that, when I turn it on I cant here any background noise, the squelch seem to work looking at he green receive light, but no sound, you can turn the squelch right down and volume up and it is silent, sometimes the sound comes through, if your on a strong stations its ok, but on 40 and 80 mts ssb there is no background noise...wonder if its something I done or faulty, its like the squelch is turned up, but it isn't..think I might do a reset.Fred g4vvq in UK
should I retune the slugs then use the menu.precidure?It's been back to factory many times since 2007 when I bought it for finals
@ILLUDICHRIS - Well, the factory menu is normally not available to the
typical user... nor is it necessary. I own both radios. The difference?
The TS-2000 is the 500 item lunch buffet. The 7000 is the good restaurant.
The 7000's RX is an order or magnitude better. It can deliver signals that
the 2000 doesn't even know are there. I use the 2000 only for VHF/UHF.
Sure, it's easy to operate, but you are rewarded for learning the 7000.
My IC-7000 frequencies are off on the 70cm band. and also off on HF bands as well. but in order for me to get on a 70cm band repeater, I have to add .005 to whatever the frequency of that repeater actually is. most of the time everyone on HF has a real hard time of hearing me when I transmit. I recently hooked up a IC-718 to the same antenna setup and people don't have as hard of a time hearing me as bad as the 7000. Is there a way of fixing that? and do you have to use the alligator clip contraption in the back?

Will this menu allow for expansion of the 2 metre band and the 70 metre band from 144Mhz - 145.99Mhz to 144Mhz - 148Mhz?
I played around a little bit with my Yaesu FT-950 factory menu ... the TX power settings. Then I put them back. Because most people recommend you don't mess with these things because they are set a certain way for a reason. A little extra power - which means nothing on the other end - or a little extra receive - probably takes your rig out of tolerances for the rated specifications, can shorten its life. and make things not work as they should in other parts of the rig. In other words do as he says in his disclaimer not as he does in his video.
Changed configuration parameters of RX and do not know original values, now ic-7000 S-meter shows the full range of HF. What should I do to get the radio back to normal?
@gkendric Two questions: is this a European version 7000 and are you on 10 meters testing the power output?
Hello Everyone,
I have been researching ALL transceivers and the two best systems for Base or Mobile are the FT-897D and IC-7000.
The FT is very portable with fixed TX wattage, the IC is less portable and variable 2-100 watt, 2-50, 2-35, 1-40, 2-20, 2-14 depending on which meter(s) your on .
Both radios cover the same frequencies. The IC is $1300, the FT is $1000.

Hi Bob, you know the ic7000 very well. Do you know how transmit #xy with the icom's mic? Our repeater has some command codes starting with # followed by 2 digit numbers to initiate some functions. Do you have any idea?

Bob - I am a brand new IC-7000 user. When I key the mic I am not getting any ALC indication. I get the word "ALC" displayed and I get a solid red bar displayed but no moving bar graph to indicate ALC level. What am I doing wrong? Did that feature somehow get turned off?

WHY does my IC-7000 not going to SSB. It used to Lost LSB AND USB on 2m and 70cm
Then when I changed from USB on 28 MHz, to FM and tried to return USB, it did not return to USB

@gkendric OK... the 7000 is very sensitive to Vcc... it's power supply voltage.
The difference between 12.6V and 13.8V is dramatic. If you are running 13.8V
and getting 60W across the bands, then your radio has a problem. It isn't a matter
of the factory settings being wrong. To be dead-sure, I'd try another radio with that dummy load/meter set-up.
for people running into this in current dates, this poster is only partially correct. The IC-7000 is CURRENT Sensitive. because it is all DSP, with the exclusion of the audio input and the rf output there is a heavy current draw at all times. throw Ohms law at it and you will find that when the input voltage drops below 13.8 volts, the current drops as well. and if your power supply cant source the required amperage, the radio's output will be hampered.

Let me add an update to the power out problem in case someone else is having that problem. The problem's source was in the power cable fuses. There was a high resistance connection and once I removed the inline fuses the power came up to specified and expected.

Hi Bob, can you do anything with the fan on the 7000, they seem to run really hot even on receive, fan only appears to work on tx, friend of mine also has one and he says his gets really hot, he rang Icom and they told him it will work on receive when the temp gauge goes into the red zone, and it has variable speed depending how hot it is, wondered what you knew about them....Fred in England.
Hi Bob I had a new backup battery fitted and it cured it, was just for the clock, that was only thing that wasn't working....do you know of anyway to adjust the freq counter, its about 200 hz off, not much bit a bit.....Fred uk
He just showed you 8C to set the ref osc.
- There's also a setting #51 at the bottom of the long *"Others"* user menu to move the osc a bit, but 200Hz is quite a bit, you might have to begin with 8C in the hidden menu while your OTH setting in "REF Adjust" is centered on 50.

Leave the radio the way it is. There's no need to make changes. You can adjust it without doing all that. Thinking just like a CB r

the meter is a 100W meter..so sounds right to me!

Actually, I have a theory. On the closest inhabited planets, the beings actually "hear" in the ham radio frequency range. To them, we are Gods. They have a whole culture based on our radio language and have derived a set of moral codes from our signals which they hears as faint voices in their heads. One of the Ham radio Gods is Roger. Another is 73's. This is the actual purpose of Ham Radio and the government doesn't want us to attract this destructive race of aliens here to find their Gods.
This is the modern version of the golden screwdriver. Yup who needs a calibrated signal generator to adjust receiver gain when all you need to do is tweak a few menu setting's.,
Whats funny is 99 percent of the time the people complaining about poor performance are the same people who've already been in their radio with their trusty golden screwdriver, Kinda like that non existent low audio problem the 7000's supposed to suffer from LOL

Bob, my S meter on VHF always shows between S8 and S9. does this need adjusting as you describe in this video OR can it be set somehow with the regular settings on the radio? the UHF s meter seems to function as it should, not VHF though. BorderPhD@gmail.com N5XTC
