- This Texan theme park is also one of the 3 SeaWorld parks in the country, and I had the opportunity to pay them a visit this past summer and am here to offer my thoughts on my overall experience there.

I've been coming to this park for almost 25 years already. I can safely say that compared to the other SeaWorld parks, it is definitely too big. Now, that's not essentially a problem, but the main issue is that this SeaWorld has more underutilized land than any other SeaWorld park. For a park of this size, it should not be possible to see and do everything in a 3 - 5 hour time span.
Also, the size is manageable for younger adults/families, but, as an employee of Westover Hills hospital [built 1.5 miles away from the park], this park is definitely not manageable for older adults. During the Summer, the amount of older people who come into the Emergency Department is incredible. The heat and the long distances between shows/rides will take its toll on you and people just don't realize this.
This park is my childhood, and we went all of the time. The swimming area (Aquatica) is what the money is at.. this area is probably the best thing to go too
I love Seaworld so much! Even though it can be boring it brings back great memories and I go every year! Can't wait for the new ride!
Steel Eel was pretty fun to me, because of the airtime and the force of gravity you feel after each drop, just at the bottom.
Now with Mako at Seaworld Orlando, it is really awesome and way better now.

I lived in San Antonio and have been to both parks, Six Flags way more. Used to go every week for like 3 years.
It's not as exciting as you may think. After riding every single ride at Six Flags over 10 times it gets pretty stale, but it sure did give great memories.
Love SeaWorld San Antonio, but I agree, the other two parks have a lot more stuff to do.
We were taken here for Band, Orchestra and Mariachi, it was fun
wearing headphones, the audio in the intro makes it feel like the coaster is wrapping around southwest of my head, where im facing being north. i think thats cool
Sea World San Antonio is the most neglected out of the three parks. Sea World treats it like a half eaten fish.
BUT it is the only one of the three Sea World Parks to do Howl-o-Scream. Though it sucked at first, San Antonio's Howl-o-Scream is now on par with Tampa's. So if you return to San Antonio during October check it out.
At least Tilikum is in Orlando Sea World, then San Antonio Sea World would have a bad reputation, thanks to good ol' Tillie.
Since this review, they added Wave Breaker and they're getting a great wooden coaster next year
During the summer time, they have a ski show that goes on. The video clip you have is them just practicing.
I went to this SeaWorld today and I don’t think it’s TOO BIG. I love it!
I love this one we went their 10 times and I , my big brother, big cousin, momma and other family members enjoyed and it was super close to where we live

Well, Sea World is a more family oriented park, so it makes sense. I rode the new coaster and it was pretty good. Obviously not amazing or anything, but it's a nice little ride.

Good review! I personally think if you want to do a 5 year plan for Sea World San Antonio, I think you should put Steel Eel upgrade. Add B&M trains and do what they did to Steel Dragon 2000.

I love this park but I can't disagree with any of your reaction. Ultimately, the park has been neglected although they have made upgrades. It feels like a kid in a grown ups body. It does need more attraction to fill up the space. The new 2017 ride is a step in the right direction.

How long would you say it would take to see the whole park?
Like walking around or visiting each attraction and animals? Walking around the park takes up to like 40 minutes I guess, but viewing each display in detail would take about 1 day I guess, because some of the exhibits are only open for certain hours.
Can't wait to visit in 2017!

I used to work at there (journey to Atlantis) and everything he says is pretty much on point. Just go to the Orlando one instead
But steal eel is pretty fun a lot of air time in the back!
I have been to SeaWorld San Antonio only 2 times. But I seriously just prefer Fiesta Texas, SeaWorld has only 3 rollercoasters, 1 of them for kids. Im excited for the new coaster I maybe go back just to get on it. But talking about the other 2 coasters; Steel Eel is ruff, and a really short ride. Great White is like you said the typical Batman the ride rollercoaster. And for the other rides; Journey to Atlantis is good, but far less fun compared to the one in San Diego, and Orlando, that are half water ride, and half rollercoaster. Rio Loco is actually good, but it needs more water effects, and far more scenery, again look at the one in San Diego it looks beautiful, compared to this one. I remember riding Texas Splashdown it was a log flume ride, that was extremely popular because of the Texas heat, but it still closed forever back in 2011, for unknown reasons. The ride was awesome, but no scenery and looked really bland, but still was good because of the heat, you can still see the loading station, and part of the track is still there, it's between Steel Eel, and the penguin exhibit. That's literally the only rides there are. Another complaint I have for this park is shading, it gets extremely hot, and then most of the walkways are asphalt, so you are literally walking on a oven. They need more shade its seriously to much walking to get shade below trees, and inside indoor exhibits, thats the reason they are always full, because its cool and fresh in there. Aquatica on the other hand is amazing! Cool rides, amazing scenery for each of them. The water park is kinda small but still makes up with the rides it has. Still would prefer for waterpark to be included with the whole park. That's why I think about the park.

Has your opinion changed now? I think the park has had a big improvement now that SeaWorld is more focused on the rides rather than the animals.
SWSA would definitely be the step child park of the chain. I visited the area in 2014 but didn't visit this park. Instead I visited SFFT, Schlitterbahn, then drove all the way up to Dallas to visit SFoT. There wasn't enough to make me stop in.
For those thinking of visiting Texas, do not fly into Austin, there's too much traffic. Fly into DFW or San Antonio. One of the parks has to add a blockbuster for me to come back. In great to see Intamin back in the states, but I want something more thrilling.

I actually liked the "Steel Eel". It's a GREAT airtime machine to me. 😉
Other than airtime, I just think Steel Eel is nearing the end of its service life. I hope the area where the station is gets replaced with an indoor attraction if it closes, such as better and longer version of Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin or Wild Arctic.
Jayden Crist That could also work but I think a high thrill Intamin multi launch coaster similar to Pantheon would be a better replacement for Steel Eel

This park has only NINE Rides!
I went here and honestly I was a little disappointed.... I just thought that they needed to do a better job at placing shade around the park and covers for their shows for the San Diego heat. I though Orlando was much far superior. Also Steel Eel was awful! I haven't been there since the early 200's though

I've ridden the clone at SFMM, SFFT, and Sea Worlds. The one here is by far the smoothest one out there bc maintenance really takes care of it and has a an extra row which adds more weight and momentum and supposedly it is slightly longer overall

Are pretty much all the whales Sea World have are Shamu? Because when I came to San Antonio Sea World (The closest one to me) twice I never knew which one Shamu was... and the last time I went I think there was a baby.

The area by Carolina Cobra at Carowinds also feels pretty dead with a lot of unused space that is covered with concrete. I'm glad they are actually getting something over there.
