    Seeing this kind of video is bitter-sweet. I grew up in the 60s-70s when drive-ins were in play everywhere and was a big part of my childhood , even into the early 80s. Seeing one in this condition but eerily preserved in some ways is trippy.
    Great job on the video and keep pushin on!

    Well done! You got a sub out of that video. Many years ago when I worked on a farm, we farmed the land behind our local drive in. They had already gone to audio on the radio, so we would simply pull up and watch the movie on our tractors listening to our radio for audio.

As we got older, we went with car loads of friends or on a date. I didn't even know these Drive Ins existed any more, abandoned or not? This was a really cool video. Thank you so much for sharing!!❤

    I was born in Lamesa, lived there until the mid 60's. The famous food was amazing, it got so popular they would let people in just to buy the food to go. That's what made my mom and dad begin cooking Mexican food trying to recreate the Chihuahua. Jock Mahoney (Tarzan) came there for a personal appearance, we got his autograph! I think that it would be a problem with outdated building codes. This would require a lot of upgrades, on top of restoring the fire damaged areas. Also, they may have been un, or under insured, if they were in financial trouble.
    There is a dive-in between Ocala and Belleview Florida on Highway 441. It was closed fr a couple years. The man who bought it, upgraded to a digital projector, then added several smaller screens, with new projectors. I was give a tour of the projection booths, because I spent a year running about 16 hours of 16 mm film a day at an Army AFRTS TV station, in the mid '70s.

    • @theoutseers
      @theoutseers  Před rokem +1

      That's really cool! Between running the projector in elementary school and an episode of Columbo that revolved around film I have had a fascination with that type of media.

    • @michaelterrell
      @michaelterrell Před rokem +2

      @@theoutseers I quickly learned to reload a broken film, and splice it while it was running. I was 21 years old. I had tested out of the Army's three year Broadcast Engineering school.
      I repaired my school's A/V equipment in the late '60s. We had about a half dozen 16mm projectors, plus a very old one that had been retired that was kept in the Electronics classroom. It was off the books, as too old to maintain so we didn't have to share it.
      My first exposure to video tape was on a Sony 1/2" reel to reel B&W industrial machine. We used it to tape delay some Educational TV programs.
      I should still have a 35mm test pattern slide from that TV station. It was to be shut down after I was discharged, and the equipment sent to other locations as spare equipment.

    Oh dear. Perhaps you can contact the owner of that place if they'd like for restorers on CZcams to band together to ressurrect it or if they'd like to sell it to someone else or sell the playground equipment to others and give the film reels away to other drive-ins or have drive-in film-reel uploaders on this site to upload whatever film reels are there. Either way, none of this should go to waste.

    How long ago was this shot? My film collecting senses were going nuts! There might be some valuable film prints there. Who owns the property? I have 3 theaters and a drive-in at my house. All film projection. Film is making a comeback. I'd be willing to talk to the owners if they'd consider renting. Hey, a little duct tape and it'd be good as new! (Just kidding about the duct tape for the humorless.) FYI, the small reels in the shipping cans are 2000' reels. That's how they came from the distributer. The "Ginormus" reels are 12,000' reels. The individual reels were spliced end to end onto these reels for projection. The projector on the floor is a Century 35mm and is just the projection head. The soundhead is missing as well as the pedestal, lamp house, and film transport. I rebuild these for my company. This could be reopened for a fraction of the price of building new. THe biggest expense is the land. It has to be graded for water runoff..
