    Why do level crossings here not have any safetran e-bells? a bit odd to have them beep...

      Because the UK has been using alarms for literally decades. Long before the first electronic bell was even developed here in America, and even got put into service (1992 was when General Signals came out with an early version of the Type 1, but those are extremely rare to find in service, as most railroads didn't start using them until the late 1990s/early 2000s). There's also the fact that if two trains are approaching an AHB like this, the alarms will usually speed up and some of them will even play a message that says "Warning: another train is approaching."
