Chapel Road Level Crossing

A Class 66 crosses Chapel Road in Southampton, nearing the end of its journey at Southampton Eastern Docks having hauled a train of cars from Oxford. It pauses before crossing Canute Road to the south of here, blocking the crossing in the process. This crossing is close to the city centre but quiet in the middle of the day it seems. Having used to be an AOCL until a few years ago, large barriers now come down in front of the lights. The alarms are quite unique sounding and fairly loud (understandable in its AOCL days). Not many trains pass through here, only really the car trains to and from the Eastern Docks. Almost all freight trains in Southampton use the Western Docks making Southampton Central station quite busy. This line used to take passengers to cruise ships and Southampton Terminus station. That was closed many years ago, but could really use reopening as this part of the city could use rail access.

This crossing has two faulty alarms now. Interesting that the YO5 can only produce a single tone rather than alternate now.

Nice Class 66 and interesting DB-wagons. Thanks God we Germans don't have this warning sound at the level crossings. It would drive me mad... :-))

That YO5 alarm didn’t sound like that before how odd it’s sounds like a bus or a lorry reversing beeping noise how strange maybe the YO5 is slowing dying firstly it has speed problems now it has sound problem it can only produce a single tone not the alternative tone
