- I didn't include any extended versions of Silk songs in this ranking cause there was already 30 songs for this month without them and in all honesty I didn't want to listen to them, sorry
BIG month for Monstercat. First off, they signed the progressive house label "Silk," which is huge. Second, they had some big artists return to the label after quite some time. Thirdly, there were some nice artist debuts (not even including all the Silk artist debuts). Lastly, we again got a few BO2021 contenders imo. Also, they introduced a new visualizer for their youtube videos which is....interesting. I already typed a bunch in this description but get prepared to read a lot during the video cause I was pretty word-heavy in today's ranking lol.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know that my spring break starts today and I'm driving to Florida which means no videos on the channel for about a week and a half...but the first video when I get back will be your February Submissions 👍🏻 (Also feel free to comment some listening suggestions for my road trip cause it's about a 15 hour drive 😬) Also I'll open up the March submissions form when I get back 👌🏻

The first song you should listen to on a road trip is Flight Facilities - Clair De Lune. Without a doubt! Best listened to at night, dusk, dawn, or in a desert/countryside

Eptic's release is SO STRANGE, but that's part of what makes it so good. He's the only one on the label that'll even try brostep with such slow tempo, and I think he kinda pulls it off!
Always bonus points for being unique! Always!

I like the new visualizer. Since the label has evolved over time, they've been constantly putting more focus on the music than on themselves (for example, they started giving album art to every release rather than just the monstercat logo, then they removed the white border from the art and just had the logo in the corner). This seems to be one more step in that direction, which I admire.
I have the similar thoughts about Silk releases, but for me they are solid 7/10

Shadow People had me really worried when I had only heard the drop in the trailer, but I feel like the intro and off-drop sections slowly made me enjoy the drops

Overall I'm pretty happy with Silk - Dreamers is my #3 of the month and Glow is also among the top 10. It's always good to see more variety of genres and artists in the label, and even though I didn't enjoy *all* of the songs, I'm excited to see what else this new sublabel has in store.
Also, I'm glad to see someone that loves Do Better and Same Mistake too!

I love Silk so far. It’s nothing mind blowing and I still prefer Instinct (especially since Out Loud, City Love, Fix It and Do Better were my favorite songs from this month) but I love Progressive House and Chill music and Silk fills that void for me perfectly. I love armada deep and enhanced colorized as well so I definitely have a soft spot for chill music.
Also have fun down in Florida!

I really love Grant and I love RUNN's vocals and her works she did recently with Nitti Gritti, Steve Aoki and Yellow Claw I personally think she is one of the best if not the best vocal out there, but on Fix It imo I feel like they both let me down big time. Hell, I even bought Gold so I can hear Fix It before because I was hyped ffs Grant is like my top 5 favorite artists, but wow what a disappointment. Im glad you put Do Better on the second so far from the views on the Mcat channel I feel like its a greatly underrated track
Here's my personal ranking of the February releases (Only the featured releases because yes). Gotta say, this has definitely been one of the best months for Monstercat. Silk Music was acquired, there's been tons of great songs, just overall extremely good! I hope this goes on for the rest of the year.
21. Eptic - Shadow People (2.3/10): Who else to make it to the worst of February but Eptic? Just like every other Eptic song after Violence, painfully oversimplified. Reminds me of Propane, so yeah, very bad. The build-up is actually good, but the drop's just too bad. I really hope that Eptic recovers from this low and makes some more actual good songs in the style of Violence or Power.
20. Fransis Derelle & Josh Rubin - Same Mistake (3.7/10): I can definitely see how people would like this, but it's just not my style.
19. Snavs - Change Us (4.0/10): I really don't like the vocals. Tbh if the song was instrumental, I think it would be better.
18. Vindata - Good 4 Me (4.5/10): I really have no idea of how to feel about this song. I guess it's just meh.
17. Koven - Numb (5.1/10): I've been really liking the new Koven songs lately, but this one's just... Well, not my style, I guess. I respect the production value, but as said before, not my style.
16. Slowpalace, FWLR & qwinn - Already Gone (5.6/10): I guess this is... Mediocre? Not that much my style but I like the energy of the song so I still put it in my mixtape. (This and everything onwards are on my mixtape)
15. Shingo Nakamura - Glow (6.4/10): A nice Progressive House song, that's pretty much it.
14. Bleu Clair - The Tempo (6.5/10): What Kaskade couldn't be. I really don't like Kaskade, and this song is pretty much just Kaskade except it's actually good. Reminds me a bit of Modern Revolt, also Kitchenstep returns.
13. PROFF - Dark Magic (6.7/10): The song has a pretty good atmosphere, a good listen overall.
12. Terry Zhong - Goodnight Stranger (6.8/10): Terry Zhong is good! Pretty good song overall, and it's also the first Monstercat song with Chinese lyrics! The entire After Hours EP is really good, but I would've personally picked City Love over this, though.
11. Banaati - Fortitude (7.2/10): Got that signiature Silk chill atmosphere, I really like it.
10. Fairlane, ROZES & JT Roach - Out Loud (7.3/10): Beautiful song, amazing drop, great vocals.
9. The Bloody Beetroots & Teddy Killerz - Elevate (7.4/10): I really like the heavy bass, DnB is always good and the dark feel is also very good.
8. Vindata - Union (7.6/10): Real funky beats, very good song!
7. A.M.R - Portrait Of You (7.7/10): Took me a bit to decide if Union or Portrait of You was better, but I chose Portrait Of You for the amazing chill atmosphere. As said before, I really like the chill atmosphere of the song, and the overall composition of it is too good. This was also released on my birthday!
6. KUURO & Goja - Close to Hell (8.0/10): KUURO did not disappoint as always, I love the dark/hellish atmosphere in his songs and this one's no exception. The lyrics are very good, too.
5. Bishu - Worst Behaviour (8.3/10): Bishu's new style is REALLY GOOD, and this song is no exception to that. The cover art is also SO GOOD.
4. Vintage & Morelli x Arielle Maren - Dreamers (8.55/10): YES. This is so fucking good, the funky beats along with the vocals are just so good. The outro with the echo-y seagulls make for a SUPER GREAT song, the production value is amazing. (Funny story: I was stuck deciding the rank of these last 3 songs for a bit. Ironically, an Uncaged song, an Instinct song and a Silk song. Even more ironically, the outcome was the one from the oldest channel [Uncaged] to the one from the newest channel [Silk].)
3. Feint - Do Better (8.85/10): What even is there to say? It's Feint, it's DnB. Extremely good song, vocals are a very nice addition. The drop is relatively simple, but oh is it good.
2. Grant & Runn - Fix It (9.5/10): Grant is back, and with a banger of a song at that! The vocals are great, and as always Grant's lyrics are super meaningful and good. The drop also has those iconic Grant sounds, just a great song by a great artist!
1. Tokyo Machine & Weird Genius - Last Summer (9.7/10): Tokyo Machine REALLY stepped out of his comfort zone to make this, and HOLY SHIT did it deliver! The beats are FUCKING AMAZING, and Lights is an amazing singer, that little chuckle while she sang "can't debate that" felt super natural and not out of place at all. This is 100% my favorite Tokyo Machine song now and I'm super glad he went out of his way to make something different!

22: I actually like this one for some reason (6.25/10)
21: Decent background music (5.75/10)
20: None of these Silk songs are getting higher than a 6.5 (6/10)
19: I definitely prefer the original, but this is okay for what it is (6.75/10)
18: At least this is different (6.5/10)
17: Boring (5.5/10)
16: Pretty impactful but forgettable (6.5/10)
15: I like some pop songs, and this is pretty good (7/10)
14: This always felt like it was lacking something (6.75/10)
13: I forget that this is Tokyo Machine, it sounds nothing like him, but it's good and I like the vocals (7.5/10)
12: This feels very demonic and the atmosphere is pretty cool (8/10)
11: Similar to Stop Pretending, it's trashy with a charm (7.5/10)
10: This is great to play if you're just relaxing at home, it's perfect for that (8/10)

7: Songs that allow me to turn off my brain are always fun (8.25/10)

3: The lead in the drop is incredible and the vocals fit the song perfectly (9.5/10)

I love that they added silk into the roster but man it's so damn uninteresting to me. This month overall was ok but most of the releases (excluding silk) were pretty forgettable

Wish people were more open to enjoying Silk, instead of ranking it so low. I understand that it's 'background music's, but some of the songs are so much better than a lot of the mainstream music we hear on instinct. It just sounds like Silk was a complete failure by the way people rank the songs. Just sad
I wouldn’t say it’s a complete failure cause I’m sure a lot of people like it, I think the reason it’s so low on rankers’ list as well as mine is because a lot of the songs so far have sounded similar so it makes it reallllyyyyy hard to rank and give reasonings for the songs
i say you should really only rank silk songs you truly like or just not rank them in general (in this case, glow and dark magic for me)
Stop pretending is better than shadow people imo. I love how stupid the song is compared to shadow people. Shadow people is boring to me.
You should definitely exclude silk songs if you want quality over quantity. I didn't even subscribe to silk cause of how bland the music there is.
