  • In this video I look at 5 of my favorite dress watches - that I own - and stack them up against one another. This isn't a full review of each watch, but rather a discussion of their strengths, weaknesses, quality, and how they stand up to those in price points above and below them.

    Nice dress watch collection! Unlike many, dress watches are what got me into watches, and what I continue to enjoy a little more than more casual pieces.

      Thank you! I have a friend who also began with dress watches. Very cool. Yeah I now wear dressy pieces far more than my sport/casual ones (Well except for the Smiths - though I do have that on a dress watch strap so it def looks dressy-ish).

    12 months ago I probably wouldn't have even watched a video about dress watches but now I'm all about the dress & field watches & that slight area of crossover where they're a bit of both. Love the Longines.

      hehe Yeah, I never would have considered a dress watch. I bought my son an affordable dressy watch for graduation, and when I saw it in person, was hooked. Now I'm all about dress and field watches. However I'm having fun w/ the new Baltic. I'll have to review the white lume varient. Just arrived.

    Great video Norman. Those are all very good looking, with a wide range of prices. If I had to pick only one I think I would pick that Stowa! 😃

      Thank you! Thanks for watching! Yeah the Stowa is so great! Man choosing one would be tough! I would be torn between the Stowa and the Nomos.

    Just picked up the same Longines DolceVita for $700 Canadian. It’s the watch Random Rob reviewed.

    Currently only own field watches, but looking to add a dress watch. The longines is the best looking imo and may be what I end up with.

    Liked the Timex, was that re issue or an old watch with 20mm lug width please?. By the way Norman, the words ‘Rare’ and ‘Vintage’ are overused on eBay and elsewhere, back in my day, over 50 years ago, old watches were called ‘Old Fashioned’, long before eBay and Etsy. Jack - London UK 🇬🇧

      It is a reissue. Sadly they're now discontinued (Or were a limited edition). I see them on eBay every now and then though.
      Yeah, now there's 'neo-vintage' to add to the mix also. I'm definitely guilty of using the 'v' word. :/

    I like your collection of dress watches. The Longines Dolce Vita looks like something my dad would have worn and frankly the scratches give it character and a more vintage look. I'm guessing it is the larger 28.20 x 47.00 version? In recent years I've become fond of smaller watches honoring my dad and only recently discovered this watch. I have a 6.25" wrist and am considering the smaller 27.7 x 43.80 mm automatic.

    • @KillingTimeWithNorman
      @KillingTimeWithNorman  Před rokem

      It was a bit large, I don't recall the dimensions though. I too have definitely gone little :)
      That's so cool, honoring your father that way!

      @@KillingTimeWithNorman Thank you. I have a Stowa Marine Classic 36 Bronze on order with manual wind, arabic numerals, 925 silver dial, no date, and temperature 'browned' hands. Stowa is specially making the hands for me; I'm very excited about it.
      Anyway I'm looking for a 34-37mm metal bracelet watch. I'm aware of the expensive Swiss watches but I think the more modestly priced names like Hamilton, Longines, et al fit my personality better. Any suggestions?

      @@dantimber What style of braceleted watch are you looking for? Field, Explorer, etc ?

    • @dantimber
      @dantimber Před rokem +1

      @@KillingTimeWithNorman Quickly, I don't want to give the impression of having a big collection of nice watches. I only own two Seiko 5's at the moment. The Stowa will be the most expensive watch I've purchased outside of a quartz Omega years ago. Given that I'm willing to invest in a quality watch.
      I inherited an old gold toned 34mm Benrus auto from my dad on a metal bracelet that is kind of my inspiration. Interestingly he had about a 7 1/2" wrist compared to my 6 1/4" wrist. So I'm thinking a similarly conservative dress/everyday watch but I'm open to suggestions. Size and mechanical movement and preferably a matching bracelet are the only requirements.

    Nomos would be a great watchmaker if they could learn how to do lugs properly. You could fit a cruise ship in that gap! Love the longines and max bill best. At least the Junghans is actually a bauhaus watch. Nomos, to me, are more homage, even though they are high end.

    • @KillingTimeWithNorman
      @KillingTimeWithNorman  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes! The Max Bill is amazing - and truly the real deal! The Nomos lugs aren't too bad when on the wrist, but yeah.
      Truth, re: homage

      @@KillingTimeWithNorman actually bought the 34mm max bill off the back of your video. I've a 6.75" wrist and its one of my most worn watches. So understated but just sits there twinkling like something a bit special but not shouting "look at me" to the rest of the world. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌

    The Timex Marlin is not tiny. It's classy. Any bigger is 🤡 sized.
