I disagree i feel its very much worth itm dont just pyt out your music you have to promote it. Do the work. Great video and distrokid was what i was leaning towards and you helped me make a decision.
Great video, informative and helpful as always! One question though, why do you say you should stay away from distributers who take a percentage of the royalities? What if they commit to posting the track to a CZcams channel with nearly 2 million subscribers, actively promote the song on social media and submit it to Spotify playlists on my behalf? Would that not be worth giving up a cut of the royalties for the comparatively massive exposure of an otherwise unheard track?
@@keirmathen That offer would be, but I've never heard of a distributor claiming that and also delivering for the majority of it's clients. Have you? :)
I've been making music for several years now and one of the worst and most depressing aspects for me is trying to get my voice heard. I post my songs on CZcams and only get a couple of views (which is just me and my family). I know this is a tough field but I really wish I knew how to increase my reach and gain even a few listeners. I've been wanting post on Spotify and Apple for a while now, but the cost has always scarred me. This option you gave seems much more affordable and I hope it will allow real people to actually hear my music. Thank you so much for this channel Michael, I really respect how you've helped me and so many others!
I actually ended up using a service called amuse, which was free. However, it's been a while and I would definitely do some research to see if there's anything new out there. Good luck!
You are sooo right. Of course you can sell music, maybe not at the beginning, but hey, who's to say that you are not going to make it like Martin Garrix? Those naysayers are either frustrated musicians or else....Thank you in the mix for supporting musicians!
It should also be noted that even though distrokid says that they'll give you 100% of your earnings, this is truly not the case. Distrokid also takes 30-32% out of your total earnings atleast when you're outside of the US. Not sure how much the tax is when you're living in the US, though. 30% federal tax, 1-2% distrokid fees. Just a few moments ago, I had $140-something in my account. I was only entitled for $90-something when I cashed out. But among all the distributors, they are the most affordable option out there. If you are doing covers, however, I would use soundrop instead since each song is only a one time fee unlike on distrokid where a cover is on a subscription payment basis. And if you start uploading quite alot of covers on distrokid, the cost can add up. On sounddrop, its a onetime fee of $10 per cover song. I'd recommend doing what I do: Use distrokid for original songs, sounddrop for covers.

I think you're overlooking the power of having a CZcams channel with 280k subscribers, which in my opinion is a hell of a lot of marketing you've done right there (and fair play to you). But some kid creates a killer track, with no following or online presence and uploads it Spotify, how will people find those tunes with no marketing? Maybe you should do an experiment. Make a killer song, upload it to Spotify under a new name and say nothing to anyone about it and see if it get's discovered, listened to, shared, liked, playlisted etc. Then 6 months later make a CZcams video on the findings. Hello Michael! Could you possibly make a video on how to set up a Launchpad in FL Studio 20? I just bought an AKAI APCmini and I managed to play in Fl with it, but no matter what I place in the patterns/pads, it only plays the sample I'm on in my channel rack, but not the other samples I placed on the different pads. Also thank you a lot for your clear structured Videos you're making. For me, you are one of the two best streamers to learn from! With kind regards
This channel is a great help for bedroom producers like me. I hope Mike keeps on making the good stuff. Seriously, I learnt everything in FL Studio with his help!
When it gives you a notification that a track was used in a youtube video, does it automatically send the person that used it a content ID notification or does it only do that after you decide what to do? I have a bunch of music I let people use in their videos for free that I also want to get on spotify but I don't want them all getting content ID matches and thinking I changed my terms or something.
@@gaffertappeexo2281 yeah I used distrokid to distribute my music and they do not register any music to CZcams content id (endless you explicitly sign up for their program to do so). I've had my music on the streaming services for 3 months and no issues, distrokid has been great so far.
That seems very interesting and attractive platform! I might use it in the near future. I have a question about one thing. For example when you are using Distrokid services, and out of nowhere this record label wants to release your music etc. It wouldn't be a problem for this service you are promoting to let you go and sign a contract?
I am not sure of the exact details but I would depend how the label handles releases. A label we once signed with didn't care at all because they handled each artist on a per song basis. It's definitely something to look into more, but any label that demands 100% exclusivity from you is something to be cautious of. Not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware
You truly have provided musically (and generally) the most straightforward CZcams tutorials I’ve ever seen, so I just wanted to state my thanks. I’m anticipating to release a debut some time this year so I have a chance to show my classmates some explicit but hopefully meaningful art :)
just a question what if I upload my music on youtube. How can I upload my music on youtubve whithout getting demonitized of my self? btw great chanel. Greetings from Greece
If you double uploaded like that, don't worry. Distrokid will alert you and you can choose to take no action and both your CZcams and DistroKid will be in perfect standing :) We do it all the time for...maybe 30 songs
Honestly it's been a 4 year process and I've still got a tonne to learn. I find the growth in knowledge is steep at the start and then it takes ages to develop a great taste and experience to know what to do etc
If you use amuse (app) you can upload, they take no royalties and it's completely free! One of the only things that seems too good to be true, rhat is true. It uploads to spotify, gplay, apple music, tidal etc and 52 other stores. Defo reccomend if you dont want to spend any money on it.
You will also need an administrator publishing, Distro only collects from distributed or youtube! In order to collect for streamings and mechanical/ micro royalties you will need an administrator publishing, this will collect for mechanical and micro royalties for your beat/music being streamed Ascap or bmi won't collect this or distro, Yes distro will collect it from youtube! but not from other platforms Distro is amazing I love them we use them faithfully but you still need administrator publishing along with ascap or bmi Nice video!

DistroKid is working on making this as seamless as possible but right now it's a tedious task no matter who you are
What are your thoughts on uploading covers with Distrokid? I personally don't like the idea of paying $12 a year per cover on top of the membership fee just to keep the mechanical licence active. I find that Soundrop, even tho they take a percentage off, I pay $9.99 per cover for the mechanical licence and its a one time fee. No recurring payments to maintain the mechanical licence. I do use Distrikid for originals though. I find its best due to what you say about keeping %100 of earnings, but for covers it's not my preference at least for now. What are your thoughts?
@@duckduckgoose8049 I have gotten some talent from the street performers on burbank and they do the recordings free in exchange for exposure on spotify....
great video. Actually the part with youtube maximization isnt that weird how they have change it? They aske that if the track has any sample or sound from sound libraries or synthesizer we cannot pretty much collect ad revenue from that song which is crazy weird dont you think? or we can ccheck that box without caring to much even if our tracks contain lots of samples from sample libraries? im bringing this topic out because 99% of producers useing samples from sample libraries to make their song. they cant just say if we use samples we cannot collect ad revenue. Are you aware of that now? what are you suggesting for this situation here? Thanks!

A good guide1
This is something I’ve been wondering about for the longest time. This is actually motivating me to complete my music for the frost time ever!
DID YOU FIGURE THIS OUT BECAUSE I WONDERED THE SAME THING REST IN PEACE TO ALL THE LEGENDS XXXBAWWEEBLTB LOADS MORE X HOPE YOU ARE WELLLL
@@gaffertappeexo2281 yeah I used distrokid to distribute my music and they do not register any music to CZcams content id (endless you explicitly sign up for their program to do so). I've had my music on the streaming services for 3 months and no issues, distrokid has been great so far.
2020? or 2019? sounds outta date if you say 2019
Not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware
dude should I buy FL studio producer edition if I have no money for any plugins?
It's definitely equipped well for electronic music if you have no money for extra plugins. What will you be using it for?
Michael Wynne maybe crack? or I can use free - shit...
Michael Wynne I saw rent plugins on Splice for around 8$ per month
thanks for reply
Computer Music mag comes with some great plugins, all usable and royalty free
You truly have provided musically (and generally) the most straightforward CZcams tutorials I’ve ever seen, so I just wanted to state my thanks. I’m anticipating to release a debut some time this year so I have a chance to show my classmates some explicit but hopefully meaningful art :)
just a question
what if I upload my music on youtube.

Hey, how long did it take you approx. to really get mixing/mastering down? Or at least just mixing down?
Honestly it's been a 4 year process and I've still got a tonne to learn. I find the growth in knowledge is steep at the start and then it takes ages to develop a great taste and experience to know what to do etc
If you use amuse (app) you can upload, they take no royalties and it's completely free! One of the only things that seems too good to be true, rhat is true. It uploads to spotify, gplay, apple music, tidal etc and 52 other stores. Defo reccomend if you dont want to spend any money on it.
I released my EP using amuse but it still isn't available on apple music
XandY i put my whole album on amuse and a web admin told me to take it back it’s trash now my feelings hurt
You will also need an administrator publishing, Distro only collects from distributed or youtube!
In order to collect for streamings and mechanical/ micro royalties you will need an administrator publishing, this will collect for mechanical and micro royalties for your beat/music being streamed
Ascap or bmi won't collect this or distro, Yes distro will collect it from youtube! but not from other platforms
Distro is amazing I love them we use them faithfully but you still need administrator publishing along with ascap or bmi
Nice video!
I’ve made $.87 with my song on CDBaby. I have to try Distrokid lol
What about BMI ? Does it have to be registered BMI first before you can get paid ?
Thanks In The Mix. I have a rap instrumental I want to upload. Thanks for the insight.
I already have a demo on ITunes and Apple Music because of Distrokid called "V (Demo)" by No Evil Music.
I plan to release another demo on Spotify, ITunes and Apple Music
💜 I use TuneCore. Only good things to say bout their service. :)
Purple Six Beats, how long does it take to earn my first money on TuneCore?
Should you go through a distribution company if your just a producer?
Hello 👋 In The Mix I am from India and have watched your many videos about FL stydio tutorial. All the video are so good. I have just join your channel. Great work 👍👌💟
swar recoRds i m also from india😁
Wow... This is incredible. Artists deserves the full credit of their raw talents and ideas that they out into their songs, tracks etc. And this plateforms does just that. Wow... Incredible
I currently use distrokid and I love it, but I have always wondered, how do I customize my profile pic and banner and all of that stuff on all of the streaming sites? I know about Spotify for artists which is awesome but what about deezer, tidal and all of the other ones? BTW thanks for the great info!
Some if not most of them have their own signup / portal where you can log in and change those things when you are verified. Google has this for sure and a few of those others I have logged in to. DistroKid is working on making this as seamless as possible but right now it's a tedious task no matter who you are
I recently just emailed Distrokid and they took care of my photo and bio on Deezer, Tidal and Napster
@@rickfewmore okey maybe I should email them as well, thanks
One question here! If I get to use DistroKid's service, will they put my music on Spotify even though Spotify isn't available in my country?
What are your thoughts on uploading covers with Distrokid? I personally don't like the idea of paying $12 a year per cover on top of the membership fee just to keep the mechanical licence active.
I find that Soundrop, even tho they take a percentage off, I pay $9.99 per cover for the mechanical licence and its a one time fee. No recurring payments to maintain the mechanical licence.
I do use Distrikid for originals though. I find its best due to what you say about keeping %100 of earnings, but for covers it's not my preference at least for now.
What are your thoughts?
Can we upload bootlegs on spotify?
@@zohebshumaeel5804 I make money only on covers. I hire artists on fiver to record vocal covers. making $500 a month
@@benjiebarker Bro that's smart... Really smart.
@@duckduckgoose8049 I have gotten some talent from the street performers on burbank and they do the recordings free in exchange for exposure on spotify....
Great video. Love the plants in the studio btw.
Thank you man cause actually iam still seventeen years old.
So thank you so much for explain it to me.
Yeo Sherlock, I'm 24 can we be friends?
great video. Thanks!
Damn! I'm in love with this guy! It's a pity I discovered his channel just right now. Amazing and incredible high quality content. Thank you so much!
can i log into the accounts that distrokid creat i mean do they use the same password that you used to creat the distrokid account or what ?
Hi Michael,
I want to thank you for putting out those incredible videos. All what I know about Fl Studio is all due to your videos. Thank you. You are fantastic and calm.
I love you man. You have helped so much in the revival of our band from the 90's, I've seen tons of your videos. Can you do a video on music publishing in the same vein as this?
$20 for a WHOLE YEAR?! Wow, this is too good to be true, but it IS true! 👌
Yea I just Did it. Another is if you are in a team you have to register and pay the yearly fee to collect revenue....
You know why it is too good to be true ? because their support team is first bots and if you then need help from an actual person, it will take like a week.
They collect 30% because of IRS without telling you. They sometimes don't even pay you when you request a payment.
@@Figah Aw man really? :/
@@k.bermejo7334 90% of my friends use distrokid in switzerland and they have problems with either payments or support.
Do you need to trademark your name first before uploading to a distributor?
I made 21 cents last year :-)
Ally Hellkiller how many people listened for you to get that?
@@raffyg5945 Probably like 100
Great video, man! This shows why Distrokid is the best option out there at the moment
Dude honestly I watched so many of ur vids but never subbed but u just helped me so much, you got talent in doing this and know how to explain it. Thanks for helping me u earned a sub !
Thanks 👊. I shared this video with my bandmate.
May everybody make it in Jesus name

Hi bro another nice video but i don't got what site you say after shazan , team?? please tell me what site is or a link, thank you bro, by the way i'm testing the new beta version of Fl and i'm get it in side of studio one and ableton live as a vst or rewire but fl au still doens't work, in logic pro is not working, and other think why fl sounds poor quality than other daw like maschine, studio one its too clearly to me this difference but is not mentioned so much on internet, thank you for all your videos have been helpful a lot for me, sorry about my english!
amazing; this is exactly what i needed to find at this point in my life. This is the most valuable post about turning music into a career that i've seen to date. thank you eternally ! ~G
Yet another great video.
Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the info bro🔥✊🏾
Distrokid is paid right?
Can you suggest the best free distributor?
Thanks for this video, very useful, I will use it and I am happy that you will get your commission, you deserve it.
I don't use fl studio because im poor but this still helps me on how to develop music in general
Really helps
Thanks for the video, was great, i have a question, what about the copyright of the music? do you have registered it somewhere before?
Can you PLEASE make a Video: "How to mix your Song if you don't have the trackouts"
Like, if someone purchased a Leasing Beat with only mp3 or wave file!
I think a looooot of People would like how is the best Way to mix such a song as good as possible.
Much Love from Europe/Austria
Does it matter if your song is copy-written or not when seeking money through a platform such as Distrokid?
Hey! Is it possible to update album picture after it is released and live?
Which sensible producers and artist are using it? can u name them???
