The lead card consists of the world's best disc golfers, with Paul McBeth (USA), Ricky Wysocki (USA), Nate Sexton (USA) and Simon Lizotte (GER) battling it out on the beautiful but challenging Franz Ferdinand course in Benesov, Czech Republic. Avery: "There's that rough we were talking about, very dense, very thick, lot of branches, lot of leaves, lot of birds, some squirrels. I saw a homeless man chilling out there. There are some berries, some kinda weird European deer thing. Yeah very dense rough."
made my day!
Now, I'm dying of laughter!
thespedwards that's how he is! just won't shut the hell up at all.
Lizotte's snarky sarcasm was hitting a brick wall on Avery. It was cracking me up.
Great footage Jomez! Sad to see the experience dampened by Avery's commentary.
Somebody needs to take Ricky shorts shopping. Dude looks like he walked straight out of a Smashmouth music video.
Lol best comment
I think someone needs to redo his wardrobe a bit in general... I love ya Ricky, and your clearly the best in the world right now, but your kinda failing the whole fashion game.....
This comment thoooooooo
I think Avery has improved his commentating but it still sounds like he is commentating for the blind people.
He's still brutal.
Exactly what I was thinking... Stuff like "Off the rim, up, tickled the chains and out" Well yeah we just saw that
YES! Was just playing with my friends last night and mentioned how I was glad he hadn't commentated yet...and then I clicked on this video.
I think he takes his commentary style from other sports, but most of the viewers (myself included) have come to enjoy more of a conversation style about disc selection, shot selection, hole design, and the dynamic of the card. Avery, please just have a conversation about the video and don't worry about saying what just happened.
This is exactly the comment I had in mind before I started reading the comments. I think because of the realitively small field of pro golfers fans have had a better opportunity to get to know each players general vibe, and that's something we've come to appreciate especially when it comes to commentary. Avery can absolutely provide commentary but it's not the kind of commentary a lot of fans have come to really enjoy.
Glad simon was in on the commentary.
So glad Dynamic Disc sponsored this great tournament.
from the description: "Watch the epic conclusion of the 2017 Konopiště Open..."
i would like to
After hearing Sexton and Jerm do more commentary, Avery just doesn't measure up. His style is just a little choppy for my taste. Great coverage, but the commentary could use some work.
Thanks for the awesome coverage!
luv this card...cannot wait for final 9
Why do people care more about the commentary than the actual play? Sure it adds to the overall experience of watching these videos, but it's the play that really makes for the entertainment.
Simon's mini drop at 4:39 was impressive
Where's the final 9?
thanks spintv! love this tournament
Avery, please only comment on what happens on the shot or where it lands, when we cant really see it. We can see that the disc is rolling down the hill. It is okay to say it was a bad roll, but we dont need a long speech of how it is rolling and how a hill works.
Anybody notice at 4:37 Simon dropped his mini and it landed perfectly where it was supposed to?
Avery you're a legend and we all love you, but your commentary belongs in boxing or mma. So intense!
This is pretty crazy. I've stayed away from social media because this tournament is so close and I don't want to know who won. I appreciate them filming it but if you know it's going to take this long to post the final 9, you have to just post the final round in its totality.
Where is the Back 9, please, its been one day after the tournament finished
When will the back 9 be up??!?!??!
I was watching this reel and thinking 'I wonder if other listeners struggle with Avery Jenkins commentating style'. Looks like I am not alone. He makes it feel like a monster truck rally or a demolition derby. Too exaggerated and showy for a disc golf tournament. I've met Avery and he is a really good dude, just maybe not cut out for this.
I am a HUGE fan of Jomez who I believe produced this program.
every second sentence from ricky is like: yeah you know, he just had the momentum on his side, you know
or: ehm, you know i knew i had to make this putt you know...so i kept the momentum on my side, you know!?
masters 2016 final round by thediscgolfguy
ricky is commentating there
Just like I said right? XD
SchwedterSkater was someone else talking to you I'm confused af
Jared Garrett yes, but I guess he deleted his comments ;)
"Paul just wasn't good enough " -Simon lizotte
Ok, we gave Avery a chance to get better. How much evidence do we need before we decide he should stay off the mic? Great Great ambassador for the sport. Bad at commentary. It's ok. I'd be bad at it too.
Exactly.
Yes. Get him outta here.
The volume jump on the commercials is terrible... Please fix that
the lime green port-a-jon behind the basket on hole 9 completes the picturesque beauty of said signature hole . . .
besides the ads in between every hole and the Avery commentary, great filming. keep up the good work
Good god - this is really becoming a TV channel, isn't it? Why are the commercials so much louder!? I left cable TV almost ten years ago, and i thought i had gotten away from this kind of thing. If you need to put a commercial after every hole, fine. But please, get the volume down.
thanks for the content :)
BACK 9??????????
I don't want to pile on with the Avery critics. I'll just say that he is REALLY good when it comes to being the analyst half of a two man live broadcast team. He is extremely knowledgeable and has great inside information on the players, the discs and the courses. That's where he really shines and I'd like to see/hear more of that, but doing play by play for the edited videos is not in his bag. It's a common mistake that even a lot of well-paid major sports broadcasters make - describing what just happened when the audience has just watched it on video. A lot of them come from radio, so it's a hard habit to break. I was in broadcasting for years, so I know. The only advice I would give him is to concentrate on anything but the action we're watching - unless it's a fantastic shot and you want to exclaim something. The disc choice, the features of each hole, details about the players, stats - anything but what we just watched. Again, unless it's spectacular, and then, you get a chance to coin cool phrases and such, like "holy cow!," "back back back back back!" and "goodbye Mr. Spaulding!"
come on guys, don't upload the front 9 so soon if it's gonna take so long to upload the back 9.
Does anyone know when the back 9 is gonna be released?
Great coverage!
I'm little disappointed with CZcams because these videos have a terrible amount of compression artifacts.
These should be HD-quality but from time to time it's like watching old DIVX-DVD movies with macroblocs everywhere. It might be that these green grass footages are difficult to compress, but I am expecting more from CZcams. I hope they would try to increase bitrate or something to correct this problem.
If you have to have ads, I would recommend one every three holes. Not every hole. Everything else was great as usual!
Tyler Burrow yeah it's one thing if you have 9 different sponsors, but we see the same Innova ad 2-3 times a video. That's not necessary.
I dont like Avery doing the final round. He is too robotic. Im sure hes a nice guy but please leave the commentary to the other guys
He just tries a little too hard. Needs to talk a lot less and relax. And don't narrate what we can obviously see. "Off the band!" Yeah dude, we saw that.
Amazing logic. What the hell you think commentary is for then if not stating things that just happened? Have you ever listened any hockey game/american hand ball game/whatever game commentary?
I get that there's play by play everywhere. Avery just doesn't do it well. And when Nate or Paul does it, particularly on putts, it's just "Simon cleaning up his par...nice putt." As opposed to "Rick with his putt...up and...into the chains...for his birdie." Too many notes, your majesty.
All that said, your mileage may vary. I think AJ is hard to listen to. If you like him, I have no problem with that.
CoriDancer1 yes, he says what is happening, but he's awkward in the way he speaks and it's really off putting. It makes me not want to listen. He needs a lot of work before I actually enjoy his commentary.
I personally enjoy Sexton with the big Jerm. They keep it light and positive. I also learn from from their Shop talk. I what disc they threw, what they where trying to accomplish on the shot etc
The FPO and Chase Card front 9 videos up before the lead card back 9 video???
during the music for the drone flight, i thought my dog was throwing up and realized it was this video. 10/10
whats with posting the front nine and leaving people hanging for nine hours without the back nine. post them at the same time please.
Great commentary..beautiful course...well done gentleman
Where the hell is the back 9???
I don't know about the Avery and Simon combo. I felt that Simon couldn't act himself when he's paired with Avery unlike when he's paired with Eagle. Avery also sounded like is he speaking using a teleprompter however I do like when he mentions how many feet the hole is as it's not shown on the video.
does Nate's shirt on the scorecard pic say Disc Mania?
Love the visual production of these but man... You gotta edit the audio levels cause when that music plays its alot aloooot higher than it should be... Im guessing its from regular TV commercials were the audio is higher during commercials just so you would hear it when go to the kitchen etc but during these small breaks its just crushing my ears..
Love the coverage. Don't mind the ads but the volume change is jarring. Imagine that slipped through with Jomez hurrying to post coverage.
Also Avery, love his insights but just treat it like a conversation. Sounds like he's trying too hard. Nate, Jerm, Simon, Eagle, and Paul are great because they just talk about the round casually.
i heard simon say overstable putter on first hole which one is it he didnt say does anyone know
C-Line P2
0:24 Is Paul Mcbeth that short or is this an optical illusion?
Still waiting on Final back 9? when will it be posted?
got finale 9 posted, thanks SpinTv!!!
Avery would be a great radio announcer for disc golf. Literally just says what's happening.
Please upload a non-commentary version
What I’d do to play this course. It seems like you might have a decent chance at seeing some wildlife while you’re there. Just perfect for that outdoors feel
I hated the ads between every hole during the first five videos but on this one it's nice to have a break from Avery's voice.
I like Avery's commentating, sounds professional to me. He knows the sport, the players and the courses, what else could you want.
I don't mind the ads so much .. the short ones are what, 10 seconds long? I can certainly live with them if they pay the bills for this awesome coverage. I do wish Avery would relax or something .. his commentary is very halting and stilted .. long pauses between words. He also doesn't seem to know what to say about the shots, so he ends up describing exactly what just happened. If you don't know what to say, ask Simon about something .. anything. Tell a story about what happened on the same hole last year. Even intelligent criticism about the shot choices made by the players would be preferable to narrating each and every shot trajectory.
Look, I am not really complaining .. I love being able to get commentated rounds featuring the best players in the world at the best courses, basically any time I want. I am just making suggestions to make it better. Thanks for all you do at SpinTV and Jomez.
The chain shaking is really cool.
Jeb Watson if they all get a bogey they stroke the pole.
If they all double bogey they have to jack each other off
Wow the czechs are weird.
Jeb Watson my friends and I had a star frame yesterday and we did that..pretty fun actually haha
We love to do that. It's actually great bonding moment for group.
EDIT: And we are usually very laud during shake just to be sure that everybody hear how awesome we are ;-)
Nate's putting was on fire for this tournament.
The discmania commercial's volume is RIDICULOUSLY loud....
For a moment at 19:26 I thought Sexton was some random homeless guy
It's not like Averys commentating is bad. It just doesn't fit the media well. If I were listening to the rounds on the radio it would be perfect. But I'm not. I'm watching it and I see the misses. I see the chain outs.
What I like about the others is that they add more than just play by play; Hhich Wysocki, Lizzie, McMahon, Sexton and others do as well. Sexton, Koling have knowledge of a lot of disc manufacturers. So they add insight as to what and why they throw the discs they throw. McBeth and Sexton have played the courses and have specific insight and history with the lines to throw. Sexy and literally everyone have great banter.
I feel like Avery is trying to take commentating to a professional level. Which is probably his end game if the sport progresses the way it looks like it is going and I don't fault him for that. If the sport gets popular enough I don't see Mcbeast giving up contention to commentate. Same thing with McMahon, Lizotte, Sexton, and the rest of the top players.
So I guess this is to Avery if he will ever read it , or the Jomez crew to pass it on:
You're doing a great job but a little bit of constructive criticism.
Less play by play. More personal insight. You have many years of experience. Share it.
Learn about the other teams. I get you're a Discmania/Innova employee. I don't know what kind of restrictions they give you about speaking about other discs but Sexton have some knowledge and he talks what he knows.
Ima check back next week for the final nine.
Grant Price gotta be patient G 😉
Jonathan I've become a fiend lol
I liked the stats at end
I had the "pleasure" of watching and walking along Avery during usdgc last year. I helped keep score for the lead card. He can't speak off of the top of his head.. during the wrap ups it took him 30 takes before he said "I need time, i have to write some stuff down." we were all annoyed bc it wasn't that hard. he took another 30 minutes and stood alone thinking with his notepad. I guarantee you he's reading off a notepad. And yes it's annoying to hear everything you just watched replayed to you..
the commentray is a bit intense good coverage though !
4:38 simons mini placement on par with his distance drives
Come on guys wheres the back 9!! Jomez would've had the final round up already. Why y'all slacking?
Liking the star frame tradition
Jamie Thomas I'm looking for you, why aren't they allowed to say the name of the Discmania Discs but they can say the name of Innova Discs?
Tom Shufflebottom Fitness I was wondering that too. Paul wouldn't say it because he was throwing a Discmania FD3 so it isn't advertising Innova. But Simon is sponsored by Discmania and only throws those discs so I don't know why he doesn't say the names.
But then Simon mentions the FD and PD on hole 2, I'm confused
Tom Shufflebottom Fitness maybe saying "overstable putter" is more descriptive to those that are unfamiliar with Discmania, as opposed to just saying P2. I don't know.
Simon mentions his Discmania discs a few times in the round. Hole 4 he mentioned PD2. And I remember on the round one feature card back nine, he and Eagle talked about their Discmania discs a few times.
I have a feeling I won't be believed by some, but I'm being completely honest when I say that it's a coincidence. I know from my experience in general, sometimes I really want to say something concrete or specific (stats, discs, etc.) but in the moment I doubt myself for a split second and have to quickly cover with a more generic term or statement. It's similar to playing golf, you have to relax and be in the zone, if you think too much you mess up your flow.
Also for me personally, I don't like to get too involved in players bags. These guys could throw paper plates and shoot under par, so what impresses me is the consistency in high level execution. That's just my opinion though, and I don't begrudge any commentator who likes to talk disc molds.
Great coverage for sure, but these ads are borderline unbearable. The short ones are whatever, but I beg you to pleeeease match the volume of the ad to the actual disc golf. I watch it on my tv and the innova ad after hole 1 made my eardrums bleed. But other than that thank you for the great filming and Simon's commentary!
Jory Smith yeah I don't mind the amount of ads as much as the bleeding ears afterwards. I get they need to cover the costs but it seems like they didn't sound check each video to notice how bad it was.
I thought Avery did quite well on this video. Perhaps talking a bit more than needed but solid. Course looks amazing.
Disc Golf Nerd I think people want banter and a conversational commentary now that they've had a taste of it. Avery does a stiff play by play style with no personality. People want to immerse themselves with the players which make Avery's style less popular.
Tough listening to Simon. I enjoy listening to everyone but this guy.
"low line" literally the highest throw out of all of them. XD
Saying this as nice as possible, anyone but Avery...anyone
does Avery have to yell so often?
Avery? Y tho?
18:51 Simon's drive gets cut off mid flight right after Avery says " now this is a shot we came to see here " and it was right in the middle of Simon explaining his shot! Simon-" it was so frustrating because - wow they just cut it." WTF SpinTV?
who's the jabroni in charge of uploading the back 9? let's go already.
When they were transitioning from hole 5 to 6 who else checked there phone to see if it was their ringtone going off😂
I love the coverage, but Avery Jenkins is just brutal. There are a lot of decent commentators available in the disc golf community - please, no more Avery.
I like Avery, he is just fine.
Avery's commentary sounds similar to others on espn channels. I could also say that it is more professional in a sense than Eagle and Simon giving eachother shit. That being said, I love hearing those two commentate, it's more fun.
The perfect compromise is Jeremy. I could see, 10 years in the future, disc golf on espn. Jeremy and probably Avery because he's good at it. yall know it.
Why does Simon keep knocking the choice of roller on hole 5? We get it, you like the big turnover. But the commentary from previous rounds revealed that there is a wide open fairway where you can find the back door to the basket. A well executed roller goes right into said fairway for an easy upshot. It's not rocket science.
"Low line, laser beam shot."
*describing Paul's high, hyzering shot"
Simon dropping the F bomb at 15:56??
Steven Cain who cares.
Steven Cain funky
Good question, who does care?
I think you are right haha
9 hours later still no final 9. Czechs still fucking with 56k or what?
Henry Witecki probably redoing the commentating ;)
Sometimes we have a magnetic storm in Czech rep. and it erase our VHS.
Henry Witecki man i expected to wake up to the final part but not up yet... hopefully soon
Jamin Schmitt most likely
lol avery and simone do not go well together as a commentary duo
Yeah it was cracking me up how simon's sarcasm and dry humor was bouncing off Avery like rubber
Exactly the comment I was looking for so I don't repeat it. haha. Honestly though, I don't think Simon is being sarcastic a lot of the time; I think he might just be a dick. I still love him though.
Sean Devlin All the European's commenting have said things are just different there, they just say things how they are. Simon and Eagle seem to get along like best friends and Eagle seems like an awesome guy so I can't imagine Simon isn't just as enjoyable to be around
dalcowboiz I'm sure you're probably right. I just wish I could be sure if he's being sarcastic and it's just not translating or what. He cracks me up either way.
It's Avery man. Just not his thing
haters everywhere. lots of haters. why so many negative comments. disc golf is awesome no matter what
Disc golf is awesome. Does that mean Avery is a good commentator because disc golf is awesome?
is commentating isn't that bad...
you people are all just too f****** sensitive
Not to beat up on Avery...but his lame commentary almost ruins this amazing coverage
Woot!
Avery Jenkins, good at disc golf, not good at commentary. Great coverage though.
Not to be hard on Avery but his disc golf game isn't what it used to be, hey I can totally relate. But I think that's part of why he has gone into broadcasting so he can still be in the front lines of Disc Golf. I don't blame him and I think he is good commentator, he's detailed and sounds professional. He could be a bit less robotic and show more emotion and excitement in his voice.
I disagree completely, he's so loud about what he's saying and literally just explains exactly what is on the video. I wish he would mention some of the difficulties and struggles of the shot selection rather than just tell us exactly what the player is looking at. Like when paul and nate do commentary, since they actually played the round, they can describe the emotion and the atmosphere of the round, rather than just say, "His putt bounced off the rim! Just a bit low!, On to hole x par x, xxx feet." its kind of annoying how he sounds like thediscgolfguy in his commentary. Nothing really wrong with that, I just much rather hear from the other players talking about the drives, what their game plan is for the shots and what they're dealing with mentally instead of, "Long shot off the tee, Paul turns his over too much." Just saying, love avery for his how to videos, but as far as commentary, the style is obnoxious.
Avery's "CZcams Voice" is not good on CZcams, at least not for disc golf commentary.
Having met Avery, I can assure you that he does not put on a voice for CZcams. This is the way he speaks in normal conversation.
I think he's just trying too hard. He seems dedicated to being a commentator and will mature into the role and be just what disc golf needs. I like how Simon contrasts Avery's "trying too hard" with his absolute casual delivery.
It's great to watch Disc Golf as it grows into a great online spectator sport.
Again a thumb down for the massive advertising.
Hole 9 Avery Calls Simons drive the longest he has ever seen on this hole, yet Simon is out and the first to throw? Doesn't that mean that everyone else on the card threw farther than Simon? WTF SpinTV?
Avery and Simon is a surprisingly great duo, I can't remember if we've heard them together before but their styles balance each other very well. Good stuff guys!
Amazing content but a commercial between every hole is a bit much
Sam Rike I prefer the longer commercials after 1 and 8. It's less jarring. Plus the volume changes really throw me for a loop every time.
How do you think they afford to bring you this amazing free content? If you are on a computer, just get used to hitting your right arrow button. Love the coverage. No complaints
So then, the solution is to double the amount of your Patreon sponsorship of Jomez Productions.
If you press the 'L' button you'll skip 10 seconds ahead. One or two presses is typically enough to skip the commercial
You just changed my life.
"I guess Paul just wasn't good enough." Damn, Simon, I hope Paul's seeing some humor in that comment, because that came off pretty harsh...
Avery could really commentate on the radio well I think. It's too bad he basically ignored anything Simon said.
dont leave us hanging
get the next vid out already fuck sake
Avery :(
avery jenkins = the john madden of disc golf! i love it!! :)
"Now. Wha wh he did right there... Was throw a Hyzer. Big one. 500 foot hyzer. AND TOUCHDOWN!"
Round 2 just had Nate Sexton and Paul McBeth commentary, and the final round coverage (the most important round) gets Avery and Simon?! How is this the best decision for the viewers? *muted* Sorry Avery, but "play-by-play" is not the same as commentary. I'm glad I'm not alone with my opinion, but that just makes the choice that much more disappointing... :/
Likely Nate and Paul are already travelling when the recording would be made. Avery and Simon are not. Check out the Konopiste thread on DGCR where Jamie explains the usual procedure for commentary
Nate dresses like he's going to a church picnic.
