It is my humble opinion that PL has never had such a thrashing cymbal sound before, which is exactly what distinguishes Waltteri from all his predecessors. It's a whole new atmosphere from a really hardworking and diligent musician. He is still in "loading..." status. Imagine what he'll sound like in 15 years time! 🤘
He's already been recognized and played with some of the most iconic extreme metal bands ever since he broke onto the scene. He's played with Greg in Vallenfyre and Strigoi, with the late Alexi Laiho in Bodom After Midnight and was in the most recent lineup of Abhorrence. He's also filled in live for Moonsorrow, Finntroll, Amorphis and Bloodbath. He's gonna reach Gene Hoglan levels of demand with his talent.
Hard to choose a favorite track from Obsidian. I vote this song and Forsaken as Walt's best drum songs. I've seen his live drum cams. Catchy fills and solid snare make for perfect workout motivation! 💪

When I heard Paradise Lost for the first time they quickly became my all-time favorite Goth Metal band and introduced me to the subgenre where I fell in love with other Metal Bands with Goth influence like Type O Negative, My Dying Bride, and Feilds Of The Nephilim. With Paradise Lost, I always come back to the records, because each one is always so great. Not only that, but Paradise Lost and other of their Metal contemporaries helped inspire me to write an epic horror novel about the end of the world and its aftermath. Music can inspire so much creativity.
