    Excellence as always Shannon! You made me think about people involved in the game that I may not know that much about. Who would I be interested to learn more about? The first name I thought of... Don Cherry. I believe that he is not as well known here in the states as he is in Canada. I think that people would enjoy that video as much as this one, at least I would.

    One thing that strikes me in this. You mentioned Eagleson. If it wasn't for the part of the US, sticking their nose into the matter, the rat would've probably walked away without a second thought. He had the Canadians so well greased, that they chose to ignore any of his wrongdoings. Wish you look into this. Excellent, informative video BTW

    • @Lawomenshoops
      @Lawomenshoops Před 3 lety

      Late to this post, but Sports Illustrated in 84 or 85 was the first time I read anything about eagleson being a bastard!! And the US stuck their noses into the situation because he committed fraud in the US. And nobody was scared of that rat bastard! The man skimmed money off injuried players, he was suppose to represent!! That makes him the worst!!

    Umm, you got it backwards Shannon. The Big Bad Bruins started before the Broad Street Bullies. They started in the late 60's, early 70's and were sort of a model the Flyers built their team on with both teams emphasizing toughness.
    As far as the NHLPA, hearing how he took a stand for it reminds me of the recently deceased Ted Lindsay who was instrumental in the NHLPA's founding and ended up in Chicago for it.

  • @kencoakley3959
    @kencoakley3959 Před 4 lety

    Alan Eagleson, while Being the head of the NHLPA, was Bobby Orr's agent, who lied to orr so he could finish his career in Chicago when the Bruins gave a Bobby Orr , who was literally on his last legs, an offer that included part ownership of the Bruins. Eagleson omitted that and told Orr that they Orr that they offered league minimum because Eagleson promised the Owner of the Blackhawks, who was Eagleson's dear friend, Bobby Orr on a silver platter. The Blackhawks knew about Orr's health but thought that Orr would teach the players to play like Orr. Of course that was impossible. The story broke in 1993 here in Boston. Orr went on WEEI, a Boston sports radio station and said that he hired someone to look into the files. I remember hearing Orr say "The Bruins gave me an offer that I should have accepted".

    Mike Milbury, Pat Quinn, and Scotty Bowman all remind me of an old line from Star Trek. "You should not have accepted promotion. [Coach] is your first and best destiny."

    • @doctorx3
      @doctorx3 Před 3 lety

      @@rangers199487 you may not like the source, but the results bear out. Hockey has seen a number of great coaches become lousy GMs. Those are two drastically different jobs, requiring very different skull sets and temperaments. I consider it yet more evidence that there is no singular or quantifiable measurement for intelligence.

  • @wojci0947
    @wojci0947 Před 5 lety

    He should be a hero to Boston College, because him not taking that job gave them Jerry York, an absolute legend both at BC and just in general in college hockey. So while he may not be loved at Boston College, him not taking that job led to BC's greatest hire, Jerry York, who led Boston College to 4 national championships as a coach.

  • @kencoakley3959
    @kencoakley3959 Před 4 lety

    I remember the MSG incident. Peter McNab held the guy down while Milbury hit him with the shoe. I think Milbury, McNab, O'Reilly and Jonathan .just have seen Slap Shot. At around that time I was at Children's Hospital in Boston and saw Peter McNab and Terry O'Reilly in the lobby. They were visiting sick kids.

    Shannon you think over 300 PIMs is a lot. Dave Schultz "The Hammer" which was a very well deserved nickname had 472 PIMs in the1974-1975 season. I believe that is still a league record for 1 season. Now that is a lot of PIMs.

  • @greggburke3770
    @greggburke3770 Před rokem

    Enforcer? LMAO That's hysterical. Those teams had O'Reilly, Wesink, Jonathan, Cashman, Secord, and many other solid fighters over Mike's career. Milbury was a terrible fighter, and rarely ever won a fight. He was willing to fight, but usually took a beating. He took some of the dumbest penalties, and Boston fans heckled him routinely. I saw every single game of his career. It was so rare to see a local player hated in Boston, but Milbury was...at least until the shoe incident which certainly made him temporarily popular. But that faded fast with his idiotic play.
