Beating the fan with his own shoe is legendary, and hilarious.
Oh this should be good. Popcorn ready
Not a fan of him but you have to respect a guy that beats a fan with his own shoe.

Can’t wait for the eagleson video
Excellence as always Shannon! You made me think about people involved in the game that I may not know that much about. Who would I be interested to learn more about? The first name I thought of... Don Cherry. I believe that he is not as well known here in the states as he is in Canada. I think that people would enjoy that video as much as this one, at least I would.
He was much better as a player, coach, and NHLPA rep than his other jobs
I wonder why he didn't stay on as coach. He was pretty good in Boston. Did not know he went to college.
Amazing job brother!! I remember it all, boy they were the days..
great video shannon. all of your videos are so informative and entertaining
And to think... Milbury thought he'd be remembered for the shoe incident :D
"Hold my beer, i'm going to be a GM"
Haven't watched it yet but I think this is going to be good.
Very interesting. Keep up the good work.
One thing that strikes me in this. You mentioned Eagleson. If it wasn't for the part of the US, sticking their nose into the matter, the rat would've probably walked away without a second thought. He had the Canadians so well greased, that they chose to ignore any of his wrongdoings. Wish you look into this. Excellent, informative video BTW
Late to this post, but Sports Illustrated in 84 or 85 was the first time I read anything about eagleson being a bastard!! And the US stuck their noses into the situation because he committed fraud in the US. And nobody was scared of that rat bastard! The man skimmed money off injuried players, he was suppose to represent!! That makes him the worst!!
13:40 “No number of his has even been retired anywhere”
I think his phone number has definitely been retired by a few GMs tho
A lot of things I didn't know about Milbury. Milbury, now I salute you. Thanks for the good stuff you did for hockey and for the good sportsmanship with Ed Kea. Your recent past may not have been very successful but that's ok. Yes I know Mil won't ever read this.
I fucking love these kinds of videos, holy hell!
"He started it"
Great video!
Huh, I always thought he was a coach when he beat the guy with a shoe. Interesting stuff as usual, thumbs up.
I think Oilers should hire Milbury he can definitely turn the team around
He really shouldn’t be allowed to color Bruin games on NBCSN.
It gets ridiculous at times. Lmao...
Stevita Stamerov Yeah it must hurt to hear the Bruins get credit where credit is due when you prefer a bias Lightning broadcast.
Worse than Jack Edwards?
rivahkillah No. Milbury chimes in a few words every few minutes during color commentary, Jack does play by play with black and yellow glasses.
Laugh vs cringe
BruteStrength uh.. wut? Lmao. He’s done many Bruins games in the past and the playoffs, and at times he’s overly biased towards them.. to the point where it gets ridiculous. Has nothing to do with me wanting a Lightning commentator.
The record for most PIM is Dave Schultz in 74-75 with 472 PIM
Wow. Well that's just under 8 hours. That's not too bad, right?
Thank you
14:13 So you're saying as a Leafs fan I have Milbury to thank for Tavares..?
Ohhhhhh did I remember that crazy incident.
Umm, you got it backwards Shannon. The Big Bad Bruins started before the Broad Street Bullies. They started in the late 60's, early 70's and were sort of a model the Flyers built their team on with both teams emphasizing toughness.
As far as the NHLPA, hearing how he took a stand for it reminds me of the recently deceased Ted Lindsay who was instrumental in the NHLPA's founding and ended up in Chicago for it.
Alan Eagleson, while Being the head of the NHLPA, was Bobby Orr's agent, who lied to orr so he could finish his career in Chicago when the Bruins gave a Bobby Orr , who was literally on his last legs, an offer that included part ownership of the Bruins. Eagleson omitted that and told Orr that they Orr that they offered league minimum because Eagleson promised the Owner of the Blackhawks, who was Eagleson's dear friend, Bobby Orr on a silver platter. The Blackhawks knew about Orr's health but thought that Orr would teach the players to play like Orr. Of course that was impossible. The story broke in 1993 here in Boston. Orr went on WEEI, a Boston sports radio station and said that he hired someone to look into the files. I remember hearing Orr say "The Bruins gave me an offer that I should have accepted".
My first reaction to this was Mike Milbury played in the NHL? My second reaction was, Oh right he's the guy beat up a Rangers fan with is own shoe
9:20 I can't imagine any Flyers fan ever doing that, no way must have been another team
O'Reilly, Milbury. Triva name the player holding the fan down, so Milbury can hit him with the shoe. Hit wearing No. 8
Peter McNabb
Oddly, as a kid, McNabb was one of my favorite players.
Cam Neely
@@TheHockeyGuy Sorry to hear that. LoL
Mike Milbury, Pat Quinn, and Scotty Bowman all remind me of an old line from Star Trek. "You should not have accepted promotion. [Coach] is your first and best destiny."
Really??? A quote from Star Trek comparing Mike to Captain Kirk? Whats next, a quote from Doctor Who?
@@rangers199487 you may not like the source, but the results bear out. Hockey has seen a number of great coaches become lousy GMs. Those are two drastically different jobs, requiring very different skull sets and temperaments. I consider it yet more evidence that there is no singular or quantifiable measurement for intelligence.
So Mike Milbury made it possible for Tavares to leave the Islanders?😂
He should be a hero to Boston College, because him not taking that job gave them Jerry York, an absolute legend both at BC and just in general in college hockey. So while he may not be loved at Boston College, him not taking that job led to BC's greatest hire, Jerry York, who led Boston College to 4 national championships as a coach.
I remember the MSG incident. Peter McNab held the guy down while Milbury hit him with the shoe. I think Milbury, McNab, O'Reilly and Jonathan .just have seen Slap Shot. At around that time I was at Children's Hospital in Boston and saw Peter McNab and Terry O'Reilly in the lobby. They were visiting sick kids.
Shannon you think over 300 PIMs is a lot. Dave Schultz "The Hammer" which was a very well deserved nickname had 472 PIMs in the1974-1975 season. I believe that is still a league record for 1 season. Now that is a lot of PIMs.
Solid, nasty defenceman.
Might have been very interesting to have had Mike Milbury as GM for the Toronto Maple Leaf's under the ownership of Harold Ballard. LOL
Who thought of Ron Duguay @12:47?
Mike Millbury could have been a great friend of Harold Ballard.
FINALLY
9:43 Paper cut?
Not smart but its why we love him in Boston
“Lost em already...” 😂
You lost me at "intellegent man"
lol just kidding
Ayyyy
I like Mike Millbury.
He can beat you with his hands, or he can beat you with his fists- the hockey guy. Um... I am pretty sure those are both the same thing.
Hands means stickhandling or shot.
Mike Milbury can beat you with his fists, and he can beat you with your shoe
It suck that he only known for beating up a fan with thier own shoe, coaching Boston and being the HC/GM of NY Islanders during a dark time in that club's history at which is was at fault for before become a unlikable broadcaster . And not for standing up for NHLPA member who was forced to retire while in the AHL.
Today he would have got 10 games just for leaving the dressing room to go back onto the ice
i like milbs tbh
If only we could get the game back to what it was in the 70's and 80's. Now that was exciting hockey! This euro trash style they play today is nowhere near as fun to watch. I remember how hyped everyone would be to watch the absolute wars that would take place between rival teams.
Enforcer? LMAO That's hysterical. Those teams had O'Reilly, Wesink, Jonathan, Cashman, Secord, and many other solid fighters over Mike's career. Milbury was a terrible fighter, and rarely ever won a fight. He was willing to fight, but usually took a beating. He took some of the dumbest penalties, and Boston fans heckled him routinely. I saw every single game of his career. It was so rare to see a local player hated in Boston, but Milbury was...at least until the shoe incident which certainly made him temporarily popular. But that faded fast with his idiotic play.
The WORST GM in NHL history, and I will hear no counter arguments for this. The man single handedly dismantled an already crippled Islanders team.
Yashin, Luongo, Linden, Chara.... uhhh I hate this guy so much. Plus he has a resting grump face and I just want to throw a shoe at him.
Kris Bishop I loved him as GM too. He destroyed that team. I love him for that.
Bran Carp George McPhee trading 1st line Filip Forsberg for rental depth player Martin Erat might be more crucial than all 4 of those losses.
But can’t deny George is undoubtedly one of the best GMs currently atm with what he’s done in Vegas.
BruteStrength Not a chance.
Chiarelli
i cant read your writing sir
so you have to look at the team owners in the 1970s .. let's just say not nice people

52 or 54?
Still love the shoe beating incident. The best! Check out my channel for hockey card pack opening
Should of started the video by holding a shoe
So, Mike Millbury made a lot of money and career mobility through mediocrity and being a Bully. His impactful comments as a member of the NHLPA were obvious and no-brainers.
In the GM video, you need to wear the fisherman jerseys. Too ugly to not wear it.
Come on dude??? When he went into the stands the nhl shld never have let him back to play ever again!!! He shld have never been allowed to b a horrible announcer too!! How it is poss he works for the nhl, what a joke!!!! Can dave shultz work for the nhl on nbc, yeah ok???? Was a horrible GM. N as he a player he sucked!!!!! Was a complete hack!!!
Don Cherry is such a disgrace to humanity.
