I have the same weed eater all the other ones I have are 225 and I spend this one on recon at home Home Depot so I picked it up I'm getting ready to adjust the high-end on the carburetor but I noticed that it doesn't have a very good top-end speed is that why you did the muffler deal
I did the muffler deal because I hated how hot it ran. I should have done this to my old SRM230 that I had for 9 years. It definitely made this a different machine.
@@notdirtyflics1067 Glad to hear! mine also became a lot less cold nature during warm up after this. Usually I can wind it right up to full speed right after starting it cold now.
the 266 does have plugs in the high/low screws in case that hasn't been already talked about. They are deep in the brass holes and you use a heated up drill bit to pop them out.
@@NoNew42 Heat up a miniature flat blade screwdriver with a torch until it just turns red, push it into the black plastic plug and hold it there until it cools then you should be able to thread the plug out of the brass holder. To remove the brass holder, take the priming block off of the carburetor and turn the mixture screw out until it presses the brass holder out of the carb body. I usually just take the priming block off and push the hot screwdriver through until I find the mixture screw slot and unthread it so it pushes the plug and brass holder out at the same time.
@@MattsRageFitGarage I heated up a tiny screw and threaded it slightly into the black stopper until it could freely hang there. Let it rest for a minute and it came right out when I pulled on the screw. I was able to reach the flathead adjustment screw. Thanks for the info. This was on a brand new SRM-2320T btw. It’s an absolute unit now.
What type of oil do you use?? Mine bogged, and no top end. Needed repair. Shop said lots carbon buildup. Said Red Armor is good oil for that. Any experience with that? Thx
I use a variety of oils. Mainly Amsoil saber, and I really like that red VP racing 2 cycle oil from Walmart. Never used the red armor. I mix my fuel 40:1 and tune the carburetor for it, and they run like crazy. I just put up a video cutting tall grass with this today. I also use 1oz of berryman B12 in the fuel per gallon and sometimes Marvel mystery oil, my engines are always very clean to spotless inside.
I suppose you could buy it online. I see it in the lawn and garden area next to the other small engine oils and trimmer line. It burns very clean and has a good smell to it surprisingly.

hey hows she running now? did the screen and it helped a little... but im thinking of getting a echo gt2000 muffler (no cat) and doing this mod. also how many turns out total did you set the high screw? modded 2 of my echo chainsaws, but this is my 1st echo trimmer.
@@MattsRageFitGarage hey man how's it going! got the muffler and carb mod done today. my carb factory setting (high jet) was 1 3/4 turns out... and you were right about not being out much past factory. after she cooled down i checked the new setting, it's out ~2 1/8 now. seems to run a little cooler and spark plug was a milk chocolate color. all good here and just in time for summer. thanks again for video!
@@MattsRageFitGarage absolutely! we have 9.5 acres, mostly woods. i run string, 3 point cutter and chainsaw blade. just like in your vid, the tall wet grass and reeds round our pond is what gave me the most trouble before the mod. trimmer would usual burn my forearm and bog. now with black diamond line, cuts MUCH better and A LOT cooler. BTW, running ethanol free gas and VP racing synthetic premix.
I got a free echo Srm 2501 weedeater replaced the fuel lines and Recoil spring , throttle cable but for some reason I’ve noticed it’s get very hot very quick at the recoil and right where my arm sits I’ve never had this problem before so any thoughts
My old SRM-230 would get extremely hot in that area if I ran 87 octane gas. 89 Ran cooler and 92 it barely got warm at all. Only thing I could think of is the cooling fins need cleaned.
1986FordF-250 Whats a good way to clean the fins I tried taking the muffler off but couldn’t get to the screw behind the muffler to get access to the cooling fins
@@alexharper9786 I usually use some kind of general purpose degreaser and a brush that'll get in there then blow it clean with water when needed. Air compressor is also handy if you have one.
@@scufxz6841 I later bought the 20" swath guard the SRM3020 comes with and this thing has plenty of power even with the 20" swath and .105" line with the muffler mod and carb retune.
No need, it makes tremendous power for its size and no longer burns my arm on the front cover of the engine. Even if I had a big bore weedeater, I'd do the same exact thing to it as I did to this one.
I didnt have any problems to start with. This thing has a ton of power for what it is and I have no need or use to buy something that expensive for what I use this thing for. I have used very big cc stihls and they dont even compare to this thing at all.
@@andrewbooher1106 SHINDAIWA at least older models when they were still top of the line. I have a c27 and a 270 that are identical except the u bar shape and they are 30+ yrs old and still rippin. I agree I wouldn't take a stihl even if they paid me to use it, some of their older models weren't terrible but not top of the line either. Look at diagrams of the shindaiwas I listed and then look at echos after they bought shindaiwa............ they copied almost everything as far as the engine/clutch/ and gear case are concerned. Not a fan of the direction echo has been headed though or I should say I wish they'd atleast make some high end model units that offer the same quality and durability as ones like I'm referring to. I've used and torn down many makes and I just don't see the quality like there was in those old shin's. I also HATE these cheap ass throttle assemblies they make now the old ones were far better.
@@latestplague3762 I'm still laughing at the fact he called it a toy. Perhaps if I took some .105" magnum gatorline to the guys shins at wide open throttle it wouldn't call it a toy anymore. Way more machine than I need for around my house, that's for sure. The only thing I don't like about it is the throttle assembly design, although not bad, the previous design was much better.
@@MattsRageFitGarage it's definitely not a toy. Even the srm 225 and 230 models are great trimmers with exceptional cutting ability and are plenty enough for the average homeowner. I've had to cut large areas in the past alot having very high grass and for that work imo a 25-30cc QUALITY machine is the best. They have the right amount of power to weight ratio. I could take your echo and add a offset u handle bar and not only out cut but go longer than the people calling it a toy.

Yep, I've been digging those plugs out for years. The aftermarket replacement carbs often don't even have the plugs installed.

I'll have to look for that oil at Walmart. Is that bought on-line? Never saw it at our store. I used the supertech blue oil.

My 2620 consumes the gas in thirty minutes i have to fill it up at least twice during a day weed eating 10 yards

Still running like a champ! I cant remember the turns out it wasn't much more than factory setting.

No I never bothered to attempt it after doing the muffler mod it has excellent power and response as is.

With an echo srm-520 or a stihl fs 460 you wouldn't have these problems. Yours is just a toy...

I wouldnt use a stihl if someone gave it to me. Yeah they are good for the homeowner but for commercial use I'll take my echo and redmax.
