  • 20 Times Queen Elizabeth II Showed Her Ruthless Side 👑
Queen Elizabeth II, celebrated for her duty, steadfastness, and global respect, also made decisive, firm, or "ruthless" actions to protect the monarchy. Let's explore these moments with nuance, recognizing the balance between personal decisions and institutional demands.
    Key Highlights:
Supporting the Royal Marriages Act: Advised against Princess Margaret's marriage to Peter Townsend, prioritizing monarchy traditions.
Annus Horribilis Speech: Candidly addressed the crises of 1992, including royal separations and scandals.
Diana's Panorama Interview: Advised King Charles and Princess Diana to divorce to protect the monarchy’s stability.
Megxit: Allowed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to step back while maintaining the monarchy's core functions.
Prince Andrew's Scandals: Stripped him of titles to protect the monarchy's reputation.
Throughout her 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth II prioritized the monarchy’s stability and continuity, making tough decisions when necessary. From handling scandals to embracing modernity, her actions were guided by a commitment to preserving the Crown's integrity.

I take it that when prince harry was born that was when charles officially gave up trying to make his marriage work with diana. I doubt that charles and camilla ever had a long break between them as he seemed to have suggested. Camilla was ever-present in their marriage

The whole thing surrounding Diana and Charles divorce is hypocrisy and Charles should have been forced out of the line of succession for cheating on Diana . I hope his and Camilla's actions come back to bite them in the back side and he is forced to abdicate.

Daughters-in-law is the proper way to say it, Hazel. Thanks for your comment. Good grammar is very important. And, yes, those two elder lads shouldn't have been dipping the wick anywhere but their own marriage beds. Charles should never had married Diana; she had power and appeal far beyond his own. Fergie, on the other hand, is simply from another planet, and belonged nowhere near the monarchy! Cheers!

She did an awesome job with everything she did! The decisions that people claim are so "cold and insensitive " were actually the right decisions. It sounds to me like what people wanted was a monarch who would condone and affirm their blatant sin, and queen Elizabeth II refused to do to. And she was right for it. Only the timing and societal mores allowed the second marriage, and it too ended in divorce. Poor, beautiful Margaret. A caged bird. There will never be another Queen like her. She was loved for all the dedications she made. When it comes to the death Diana, Princess of Wales, for a time I was upset but with age comes wisdom & I, now at the age of 52, understand the family were looking after the boys. It's one of the only times she choose to put family first as we were talking about the future King, Prince William. The boys were so young (I was 6 when my father died). So she & the Royal family cared for them until the family felt it was time to come back to London.
My only wish was that she had taken Harry out of the Royal line. King Charles can't as it is his son but Prince William will & none of us will be shocked. Harry & Megain's Oprah interview, poor Prince Phillip was in hospital when that went to air. That broke the Queens heart. It's common that if one partner dies when they are elderly, within two years, the other will also die & that just what happened. I have seen it so many times, both on a personal level & as a nurse. The Queen would still be here if it wasn't for those two greedy people.

The Monarch provides a level of continuity and security from any less than reputable politicians. As well the parliamentary system does not give the Monarch enough power to corrupt the government. It has worked very well for centuries. I feel very comfortable that our politicians have to go to our governor general (Canada) for permission to open and close parliament. Our prime minister has enough power to get things done and yet is not even head of state and can be removed quickly for cause by the Monarch. On a side note, the possibilities for the next election is the United States because of the structure of their system of government, is terrifying.

He should have not allowed Wm to marry Kate , for her own safety !!
Harry would have married Meghan anyway !!!
She allowed Charles to marry Camilla ! After him leaving Diana . maybe if she had helped Diana. , she mite be alive today ….

Omg! Get over Harry and Meghan. They left the UK. They don’t care about you. They are living their best lives far away from miserable England

Harry and Megan are happy. Good luck too them. I hope they never come back. They are the best royals by far.
