- Swami Mukundananda compares Karm Yog (Path of Works or Action) with Sankhya Yog (Path of Knowledge). In this Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3 Verse 4, Shri Krishna says that mere abstinence from work does not result in a state of freedom from karmic reactions. The mind continues to engage in fruitive thoughts, and since work of the mind is also a form of Karma, it binds one in karmic reactions, just as physical work does. A true Karm Yogi must learn to work without any attachment to the fruits of actions. This requires cultivation of knowledge in the intellect. Hence, philosophic knowledge is also necessary for success in Karm Yog.
Shree Krishna also declares that the Sankhya Yogi cannot attain the state of knowledge merely by renouncing the world and becoming a monk. One may give up the physical objects of the senses, but true knowledge cannot awaken as long as the mind remains impure. The mind has a tendency to repeat its previous thoughts. Such repetition creates a channel within the mind, and new thoughts flow irresistibly in the same direction. Out of previous habit, the materially contaminated mind keeps running in the direction of anxiety, stress, fear, hatred, envy, attachment, and the whole gamut of material emotions. Thus, realized knowledge will not appear in an impure heart by mere physical renunciation. It must be accompanied by congruent action that purifies the mind and intellect. Therefore, action is also necessary for success in Sankhya Yog.

It is said that devotion without philosophy is sentimentality, and philosophy without devotion is intellectual speculation. Action and knowledge are necessary in both Karma Yog and Sankhya Yog. It is only their proportion that varies, creating the difference between the two paths.

BG 3.4: One cannot achieve freedom from karmic reactions by merely abstaining from work, nor can one attain perfection of knowledge by mere physical renunciation.

HARE KRISHNA.
One really needs to contemplate on "Who am I". On the material level, you are not the body, but a process - you do not have any identity as such. And on the spiritual level, you are pure Consciousness (which is a function of the Soul). And death after death, birth after birth - we are on a journey of evolution of Consciousness; a journey of purification of the mind. Thank you Swamiji, and the JKYog team, for posting such spiritually elevating videos 🙏🙏.

O
thank you swamiji it enlighten me.
Until we purify the mind with Divine Knowledge, the mind will harbor anger, greed, jealousy, desire, anxiety, fear, etc and suffer as a result. Only God and Guru can see through and really know the actual state of our mind; It will be in our best interest if we can get ourselves to follow their directions in taking us towards progress.

One question sir, Some people has a habit to think about past events, past mistakes even if they don't want to think about it, they usually end thinking about pasts events. 4.without knowledge Karma is mere sentimentality, without work ,knowledge is dry speculation

2. Intention
3. True
4. Without proper theoritical knowledge, one can't perform actions.
Had one query...since God looks on our intention, what if the mind (being not much in my control) kind-of involuntarily produces a bad thought about somebody & the next moment, we discard it using our intellect, shall we still get the bad karma?
Radhey Radhey!
Radhey Radhey! If one realizes that one's thought is turning negative, then one should work to discard it or distance oneself from it using higher knowledge. This is putting our teachings in practice. The more you utilize this power the easier it will be to discard the negative thought and eventually one's mind will habitually be thinking positive thoughts. While we are developing the practice, God will note our efforts to put down the negative thoughts. If they are earnest efforts, He will bless us accordingly. Remember He is supremely merciful; before we get God-realized, we cannot expect to completely avoid negative thoughts as we are under Maya, but we can take His shelter. And as our spiritual power grows, our thoughts will be become better day by day.
