  • #Corvette, #C3Corvette This video shows the removal of a power steering control valve of a C3 Corvette. The power steering control valve is part of the original power steering mechanism, that when used in conjunction with the steering box, relay rod, power steering pump, and power steering cylinder, they all work together to provide power steering to the C3. It's an interesting set-up and typical of car of this vintage.
    You will see the challenges and techniques that I used to get the tricky little power steering control valve removed from the C3 and all the interesting technical procedures to do this. This is part 1 of this project. Part 2 will be the installation of the new power steering cylinder. Enjoy.

    I'm in the process of rebuilding the front suspension on my 79 C3 and the plan is to just replace the hoses on my diverter valve as there are no leaks and just 42 year old chaffed hoses. I hope this goes well.
    I enjoyed your last series of 4 on the control arm rebuild. I'm just in the disassembly process and doing some cleaning of parts. I'm waiting for a video of you putting spring back into the frame and A-arms. I used a 2 foot piece of threaded rod with a small plate on top upper arm on the shock hole and a larger plate on the bottom of the lower arm and left about 1/4 inch slack in the ready rod and then popped the top ball joint with a pickle bar. I only partially undone the ball joint nut. I then just released tension on the spring, took the ready rod out and removed the spring. I think I'm going to have to used my coil spring compressor to put "Humpty Dumpty" back together again. lol. Keep up the good work

      That's awesome and I'm glad that I am not the only one out here doing this type of work. It's a lengthy process when you consider refurbishing the control arms to make them look more or less brand new. I can't wait to get everything back together as well. I've got a lot of work ahead lol.

    Step one…steam cleaner! Step two…more jack stands!!! You won’t be the first person to die under a fallen car! This kind of work creates a log of shaking and movement of thousands of pounds depending on simple jack stands. Otherwise great video…very informative! Thanks for posting. Now I’m going back to re-visit all of your videos! Be safe

      Good advice about the jack stands. I use 2 rows of 2x4s 12" long piled 6 high and fastened together on each side of the front my car at the jacking point. This has proven safe and effective. Cleaning is by arm strong for me as well as no access to steam cleaner. Gets the job done. Great series of C3 videos.

      Good advice and I will throw a couple more jack stands under the C3. Also, the steam cleaner sounds like a good ide as well. Do you have a steam cleaner brand recommendation? Yup, I was not a fan of doing this power steering control valve work at all....but it has to get done lol.

      @@johnwilliton2536 I'm trying to picture this 2x4 rig and not getting it. Can you elaborate? I'm a bit dense. Lol.

    Very informative.
    What size pickle fork are you using?
    Thank you

    I did this job but did not remove the relay rod. A lot simpler…

      I needed to remove the relay rod so I can "restore" that piece as well. Always lots to do on these projects. Thanks for taking the time to comment. J

    curious why not upgrade to the Borgeson box while you have everything out?

      @Motorcycology  Před 2 lety +2

      That's certainly a possibility and I will look into. I know that Borgeson Boxes are exceptionally good.

      @@Motorcycology I'm in the same position - I'm sick of putting new valves and rams in that will leak
