If you heat the tiles with a hair dryer, you can easily score the tiles with a utility knife, then just fold them and they break off clean. Using piano hinges would allow them to be hidden, and you'd need just one. Very creative idea.

Can you elaborate a bit on the leg construction? I'd like to know how they stack flat when folded, since the hinges are the same height. Also most hinges don't stop at 90 degrees. Would a second leg attached longitudinally aid in stability? Such that there'd be an L shaped leg when folded out. Then you could have a place to attach a small hook and eye to keep the leg in place.

Would piano hinges make the flaps look more finished when down?
I have a table with that fold up concept from ikea but it's very thin so the internal storage is limited to skinny little drawers ... This is way better for storage... The ikea leg is one swing out leg at a 45 degree angle but it scrapes the floor so i had to put a soft foot on the bottom of it... I bet you could do legs like a TV tray folding table too if you had one on hand... Love this video
