    DC area resident here for 50 yrs. Nicely done video! I wanted to point out, the names on the wall of the Vietnam memorial are not of those who served - they are of those who died in that war or remain missing. That is what makes it so striking.

    Loved this one with all the history and the intricate architecture on all the buildings. I love the natural history museums, New York was my favourite but I would love to see that one in Washington too. Dad would be proud of you with that corny dad joke. It looked like you had a really fun day. Miss you both, love you, mum.xx 💕

    Wow! So many iconic places and I'm surprised so much was free. The Library of Congress is very influential. I studied a library course for a bit and it turns out one of the cataloging systems the Library of Congress came up with for subject headers has been widely adopted worldwide.

    We are really enjoying your videos. They are providing such great inspiration for us as we recently started full-time travel ourselves. As Americans, it's particularly fun to watch two Australians experiencing the United States. The National Mall is deceptively large. You see pictures and you think, "I'll just walk from the Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial." What's amazing to me (even as a US Citizen) is that all of the Smithsonian Museums are free. Unfortunately, everything else is so $$$$.
    Glad you're enjoying yourselves.

    • @john2g1
      @john2g1 Před 9 měsíci +3

      Wow what a tragic opinion.
      There is so much to see and learn about the way the United States functions, and its history that you do need to live near D.C. just to take most of it in.
      What's more shocking is how much of DC is either free or a dollar.
      American or not, Patriot or not, everyone capable should take a trip to DC for the knowledge and wonder... And so much of it is FREE!!

    • @Chris2inferno
      @Chris2inferno Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@john2g1 I agree that there are some sites worth visiting. Many of the museums are very interesting and educational. I have worked in the area doing installations in some pretty sketchy areas. It’s also difficult to navigate. I guess if you stick to the NW area and historical sites, it’s not too bad. Maybe I’ve just seen so much of the dilapidated and rough areas that I’m a bit jaded. I’d be perfectly fine with never stepping foot in DC again.

    • @john2g1
      @john2g1 Před 9 měsíci +3

      @@Chris2inferno Well not to get political but in my eyes that's just another education on America.
      We (Americans) strongly believe in representation, local governance and sovereignty, and freedom... But Washington DC is controlled at the federal level by Congress. Basically none of the people in charge of DC actually live nor were voted for by Washington DC.
      Millions of dollars fund the greatest library and museum system in the world and it's 99% free... But nothing is done to reduce the cost of living, end poverty and homelessness, or even ensure DC residents have the same protection the rest of us enjoy from our state governments.
      The impoverished or "shady" sides of DC are as much a somber memorial to the trials of life as the WWII/Korea/Vietnam War memorials. What can we do for a better tomorrow?
      Lastly, if you know where to go there is some amazing food in the shady areas of DC.
      I am a multiple time veteran of the Afghanistan war so maybe American style violence and poverty hit me a little differently. To me it's just 'Murica!
