So here's a thing. If you're going to store it in the family freezer, I can't stress enough the importance of clearly labelling it. Otherwise you end up with a supper of sausage and couscous, with a tomato, onion, garlic and duckweed sauce.

i was scared to get duckweed because of how people complain about it, but now I have to have it thanks to your information.
this is the main reason i grow duckweed. i bought some different species off a guy on facebook, so now I have like four species of duckweed. duckweed queen, LOL. i feed it to my chickens and worms and use it as a green manure around my gardens. loooooove this stuff!

Wow! never thought of this before. been tossing this stuff for years when I could have been making my own fish food out of it.. Thanks for the idea. keeping fish is a hobby. Why not make it support itself. dollars saved could be used for a new strain of fish or equipment..

I know most people hate Duckweed but i personally love it in my Betta and Black Platy Breeder tank. About once a week I make a scoop out of the excess and chuck it in the goldfish pond. Pretty tanks and free food.

Yes try it,just dont let it get as dry as mine did before you cut it it ,pizza cutter is good for cutting when its almost dry :)

My Shrimp go nuts whenever I put some of your food in the tank (thanks again for the nice sample, that I got with my pollen).....I may try this with spinach, since our garden is full with it 👍

Remember and do the bucket separation thing because I always get tons of baby shrimp in mine when I scoop it out :D

Idea
Place into double zip, freezer type bags.
Roll down the bag
Date bags
Maybe add a solo drop of a supplement or vitamin
Freeze in a rolled log manner
Thaw in fridge for use
Cut off end and pipe onto a algea wafer like a shrimp cupcake. Drop into tank
Wafers sink, should.stick together, duel food, I'd imagine fun to watch them eat it.
Treat as a treat or make the cupcakes right from the start and sheet freeze, then bag...
Take from bag dwc duck weed cupcake, drop in tank frozen.
If anyone uses this, please let me know! I just came up with the idea to post.

very smart. Surely they need other variety in their diets though like eggs, milk, some other random veggies added into this mix to round out their nutrients. You can also dry via toaster oven for 4 hours on 150f.
Mark Thanks for all your info. I use the burning nettle and plan to try the duukweed. What do you think about adding some of the nettle to the duckweed blend. Have you tried it for fish.

I've been putting it in my compost.
I've been killing off duckweed in all of my tanks except for one.. And I think that one remaining tank will have to continue to grow duckweed now!

Awesome idea for using Duckweed, here in Florida I have seen whole ponds and small lakes covered. I have a friend that is actually setting up a hydroponic type system of large commercial food grade containers to grow massive amounts of this true super food, it is a shame that this hasn't become accepted well by most as a great sustainable food source and even a bio-fuel. Thanks for sharing!

Hi mark. Could I use an egg as the binding agent? Maybe add some flour or powdered spinach or cornflour for it to thicken?
Duckweed is good protein. Maybe try adding some spinach to the mix or baby kale!

Great video Mark!!! I was wondering if you could use other plants from the aquarium such as Java Moss, Water Lettuce, Anacharis, Wisteria and such. Since I have a ton of live plants that I trim and remove constantly, I was wondering what your thoughts are on other plants or is duck weed more nutritious for some reason? Keep up the great vids!!!
Hello Robert , to be honest I dont know about the otherstuff ,I only tried duckweed because I know people use it for food and some places use it for fish food etc. I dont think any of the above would be bad for the shrimp but I would still try and research it and see what comes up ?

You could probably use it in the shrimp food ,I have used bee breed before as a shrimp food and its honey thats solid :)

I just got my hands on some duckweed, was wondering if I was to mash up some lawn fertilizer like a gram or two, that has phosphate and nitrogen and added to the duckweed, would it speed up its growth? I just want to use it as a straight up food for my fish.
Great video! What is the white powder added before the pollen? And is there anything else you ever mix in with the other ingredients? Any kind of insect larvae or other blended plant vegetation or a home made fish meal? I'd be interested in experimenting with this mixture if you thought it could be fruitful.
The white powder was Montmorillonite clay,if I ever add anything else to the foods I make it will probably be krill meal :)

I'm currently inundated with African Frogbit, so I should try to find if it has nutritional protein value, fiber content, et al. for use as DIY shrimp / fish food. Do you happen to know?
Brought back fond memories of my family's restaurant and candy business. My great uncle was the candy maker. He'd pour out various candies onto a water cooled table after he had clamped down four (4) stainless steel bars. Then he'd use another bar as a grate to level it all out to a uniform thickness. So, huge THX for that! :)
With a 3D printer one could create and print various molds, like rounds, squares, whatever, etc.

Congrats on 10k Mark! I actually ended up freezing all my duckweed when you mentioned using it as a food for shrimp in a previous video and will be trying this soon! With the pollen is there specific identifiers you look for or place to purchase? Inherently pollen in the states may have trace levels of pesticides which is my concern. Maybe over thinking it but worth asking. Sorry if asked previously.

Yes I buy mines on ebay from a person that lives in the mountain of Lithuanian so its mostly all high altitude plants my pollen comes from ,dont buy the cheaper stuff from china it will be full of pollution.

Hello!! Love your vids and i just tried this recipe a few days ago! I just hope you see this because i have a question... Ive had it drying for 3 days already and as I was going to prepare it to feed it to my shrimp i noticed a big section with mold growth.. Is that normal or should i throw away and try again? Hey Mark, any other binder you'd use instead of pollen? I think I could get liquid bee pollen but I'd like to know if you recommend other element for this purpose, something you'd find easily in a kitchen or anything. Thanks!
You can use flour but I would go with agar and cook it if I didnt have Pollen.
finally I'm making this today lol I have but 1/4 of what u had in that bucket can I make it without anything added into it?
To be honest I an not sure it will hold together,you can use flour as a binder if you want or something like agar :)
If you were to string together some floating bio media couldn't that help contain the plants while also providing the shrimp with another source to feed off of?
