What a great job by yourself Stace, your patience for the fiddly bits is fantastic, hope i can have the same patience. The steering column looks great, like brand new. Looking forward to seeing more. Keep up the great work.
Thanks mate. It was satisfying seeing it come up so nice. I think it's probably less about patience and more about flowing without pressure or expectation... just enjoying it.
Next time you want to remove paint I use a Nylon red abrasive wheel brush easily goes in to drill strip's paint and rust easy and doesn't hurt any types of metals underneath. Get them from supercheap or bunnings. Highly recommended
I will look for that, thanks... We have similar for our dremel but tiny obviously, and it doesn't last long. Perhaps for a drill they'll be better. Will be a good option for the outside firewall maybe...
@staceonwheels yes these last for ages I think I used about 2 to do all under the HQ I'm doing up. There are a little slow in real heavy rust and paint but I love them. No metal needles flying off sticking in you everywhere.
Well done Stace, The steering column looks ‘ new old stock’. I must admit, even though I’ve completely stripped and rebuilt everything on cars, I’ve never stripped a steering column. Thanks for sharing that as I’m sure no-one else has ever done a video on one Mouse
I think, from our HQ manual, there are some slight differences, but I think most of the stuff I did is pretty similar. In any case, I figured it out as I went along and no doubt you could too with your HQ Statesman. If you don't have a manual and need a pic of something let me know.
Cool thanks, I'll re watch when it comes time to do my one. I've actually had to put parts back on my car to re film something that I needed but I wear overalls so the wardrobe stays the same!
Very Helpful - You prolly saved me many hours of research - & your method of fitting the Circlip method done the Trick! 👍Thankyou Stace!
So glad to hear it helped!
Nice ingenuity with the circlip
He's good at thinking up tools in his head, thankfully. It was a bit dodgy though!
Yeah worked for me also. Thanks heaps!!
@bnetolldnataman brilliant!
Awesome breakdown of what you've done.

Metal needles, oh yes, plenty of those! Sounds like a no-brainer 👍

Thanks mouse. I didn't look hard to find any videos but just learned along the way. It's always fun, especially when the result is this good 😁.
Some good tricks there, I wonder if the Hq is the same? That's funny with the wardrobe change 😂

😂 that's a bit frustrating redoung something for the video, I have but only small things. How's the body work coming along?
Ha yeah, I'm quite enjoying learning about editing. Going well, both roof sides are done, it looks quite impressive now with the new roof metal.
Must be getting close then? Fun.
Awesome video, what is the red bench you use?
It's from Hare & Forbes Machineryhouse, their brand. It's a parts cleaning bench, actually, with a drain and catch tray under.
I paid to have mine sorted
Well it probably saved you many many many hours!
it did, had the rest of the car to restore and a few modifications ,over 5 years and still bits and peices@@staceonwheels
@jimclarke1108 I'm trying to do everything myself but yeah it takes time! But no rush, I love the journey.
